Subject: Battle Bros and Guard versus Necrons (1850)
I appreciate reading the battle reports on Dakka Dakka so much that I decided to finally submit my own. On this day, my friend Joel and I decided to play a fun cinematic game using army lists and/or wargear we haven't tried or usually don't take. I fielded a Primary detachment of Adepta Sororitas with Imperial Guard allies. I count these typically as a warband of Chaos traitors, with the Sisters represented as heavy infantry and the Guardsmen as militiamen and cultists, all devoted to his putrid grace Papa Nurgle. Joel frequently likes to run Wraiths and Destroyer Lords led usually by a variety of special characters. Today, he opted for a Destroyer- heavy list with a large Royal Court assault element. His usual Overlord is named Sentry, a collector of rare Necrons; each for their unique talents.
We set up a nice ice world map with a factory district in the center, a supply depot to the left and a power station on the hill to the right. After setting up the terrain we noted that it was a good ice world board and I joked that it was like this old cartoon from the nineties I’d seen about an army that farmed for ice. No one got my reference, but I found it here! I am not crazy after all, but don't judge me I was like 12 years old.

Mission and Deployment:
Spoiler:
The ice farmers dug too deep for fresh clean ice and they awoke the natives. The rising Necron host blasted the ice factories to rubble and fell upon the filthy meat bags inside. The humans were forced to flee the warmth of their compound and take shelter in cargo containers on the outskirts, nearest to the security barracks. After the initial slaughter, the security forces rallied the remaining laborers and armed them with emergency equipment. Now they march back on the factory, intent on forcing back the metal intruders, or at the very least reaching the comm beacon to send their distress signal off-world. The Necrons, on the other hand, wish only to cloak their moon in the comfortable silence they were once accustomed to, before these blasted ice farmers came around.
We rolled for mission and got Crusade with three objectives. Imperials won the roll to pick table and deploy first, picking the supply depot as their refuge. The Aegis Defense Line is deployed among the cargo containers. Night Fighting is rolled for Turn 1.
Three objectives are placed. Imperials place first and last, behind the Defense Line and in the Comm station. Necrons place theirs in the redoubt.
Imperial deployment. One Autocannon squad sets up shop on cargo containers in left corner. Jacobus and his Battle squad take the center with the Lord Commissar and Infantry Platoon One, as well as one of the Dominions. Missile Launcher squad deploys behind the comm station, with the Multi-melta squad and Platoon Command One on top. Infantry Platoon Two and Platoon Command Two deploy behind the safety of the defense line with the Autocannon squad. The Retributor squad deploys on crates in the center overlooking the big squads, while the Psyker squad hides behind them. The smallerHeavy Flamer squad take up the right flank with the other Dominions.
Necron deployment. Ghost Ark One and their squad take up the left flank besides one of the Destroyer teams. The large host of Warriors hold the Necron center. Ghost Ark Two and their squad take up the right flank behind some ruins, covered by the other Destroyer team above. With the table set, Overlord Sentry and his Royal Court plan out their attack from the safety of the cargo containers. At the bottom there is a regrettably blurry picture of well painted Necrons!
Prior to Turn 1, the Dominion squads scout forward towards certain death. Not pictured, Dominion One moved into the blue ruins ahead of the Imperial blob. Dominion Two moves into the rightmost ruins within sight of the Destroyers.
Imperial Turn 1:
Spoiler:
Imperial Movement. Center squads surge forward, with Dominion One already in the blue building awaiting the xenon advance. The Heavy Flamer squad advances along the right flank toward the center of the three ruins. On the far right Dominion Two fails to climb the stairs of their building so instead they edge towards the Destroyers.
Imperial Shooting. Every gun possible falls on the Destroyers on the left flank, leaving nothing to resurrect. First Blood to the traitorous Imperials. Prior to shooting I was under the impression that each Destroyer had 2 wounds, similar to Wraiths (for whom my guardsmen possess a primal fear), but I was mistaken and they blew away. The Dominions on the right target the other Destroyers and drop one total.
Necron Turn 1:
Spoiler:
Necron Movement. The Overlord and his Royal Court prepare to deep strike in front of the traitor host and do not scatter an inch. Along the line, both of the Ghost Arks creep forward and the Warriors in the center shamble into range. The remaining Destroyers swing behind a snowy outcrop.
Necron Shooting. The Destroyers set their robotic eyes on the Dominion squad but only fell a single trooper.
On the other hand, the rightmost Ghost Ark and its Warriors cut down three security troopers, but the sergeant keeps his men from retreating.
The center host of Warriors draws their sights on the Lord Commissar and his mob. With a devastating flash of gauss, seven guardsmen drop, but the commissar holds the line.
Not pictured, the Ghost Ark and embarked Warriors lay into the leading Dominion squad, cutting down both Meltagun troopers and a random schmo. Again though, the sergeant keeps his cool.
Imperial Turn 2:
Spoiler:
Imperial Movement. The right flank Dominions move up to threaten the Destroyers. In response to his daring move, the two large squads surround the Royal Court. The center Dominion squad (Sarge and schmo remaining) move up and take aim at the nearby Ghost Ark. The right flank Battle squad books it across the street towards the large Warrior host ahead.
Imperial Shooting. In a fantastic display, the Missile Launcher squad strikes through the cover of the ruins to detonate for Ghost Ark on the right flank. Though the explosion does little to rattle the metal murder machines within, all survive unpinned.
The Psyker Battle squad lands a blast with a weak AP on the center Warriors. The remaining Battle squad in the center throw some bolter fire and pinches off a flamer shot down the road at the Necron blob. Most of the robots recover from their wounds.
Not pictured, the right flank Dominions spray lava at the Necron Destroyers ahead of them, destroying one permanently. The left flank Dominion Sergeant uses his Combi-Melta on the Ghost Ark and fails miserably!
The combined fire from Jacobus and his Battle squad, the Lord Commissar and his laborers, the FRFSRF gun line (including some scattering blasts) and the Retributor squad on the containers, drops all of the Royal Court except the Overlord and a lucky Lord. Unfortunately, only one gets back up! My corrupted chaos heart went out to those little robots after those resurrection rolls.
Necron Turn 2:
Spoiler:
Necron Movement. Looking for some payback, the Overlord and his bodyguard move straight for the Lord Commissar. The remaining Ghost Ark swings around the corner and the large Warrior squad spreads out.
The remaining Destroyer draws a bead on the Dominion squad giving him such a hard time, while the Necron Warriors and Cryptek move to the edge of their crater to support him.
Necron Shooting. Not pictured, on the right flank, the Warriors and Destroyer kill one Dominion.
In the center, the Warrior mob returns fire on the advancing trooper squad, dropping the Flamer and a bullet catcher. The Sergeant keeps his gak together though.
The Ghost Ark and its Warriors lay into Jacobus and the large trooper squad but only manage to kill two!
Necron Assault! Charging through a hail of lasguns, the Overlord and his guards assault the Lord Commissar and the laborers. While the workers clammer with the Lords, the Lord Commissar and Overlord meet in a challenge. This is Joel’s first chance to use Mindshackle Scarabs and while some guardsmen beat each other up, the Lord Commissar keeps his head on straight. As the challenge commences, the Overlord reveals his Tesseract Labyrinth and absorbs the Lord Commissar completely! Without their leader and spiritual liege, the mob of ice farmers is swept up by the Necrons. The Overlord and his bodyguard consolidate on top of the ruins to relish in the bloodbath below.
Imperial Turn 3:
Spoiler:
Imperial Movement, not pictured. Jacobus and his security force move up to engage the Overlord. Dominion One on the left flank, with no special weapons left, blindly move towards the Necron objective. Supporting them, the center Battle squad moves up the Heavy Flamer against the Warrior mob. The right flank Dominions move up to confront the Warriors and Cryptek in the crater.
Imperial Shooting. With a huff and a puff, most of the army is needed to put down the Overlord and his cronies. Jacobus and his troopers, with support from the FRFSRF gun line and the troopers in the comm station, see the job done.
In the center, the Heavy Bolters of the Retributor squad and the Heavy Flamer from the Battle squad put a big dent in the Warrior mob. With a little chaos magic from the Psyker Battle squad, the metal murder bots found their Resolve Weakened (a yuck yuck) and they fled towards their objective.
After all the dust settled, he got back up and with a buddy to boot! My soldiers were very upset.
Imperial Assault! Deciding that they’d fair better in assault rather than face another round of Necron shooting, Dominion Two charges into the crater. The Cryptek refused a challenge from the Sergeant and one Warrior falls, but the robots hold the line.
Necron Turn 3:
Spoiler:
Necron Movement. The Necron Nightscythe arrives from Reserves, aiming at the units guarding the supply depot. Attempting to intercept the Necron air support, The Platoon Commander on the Quad-Gun only succeeds in inflicting a Locked Vector and hull point.
The center Warriors rally and consolidate their position upon the redoubt objective.
The Overlord and his bodyguard approach Jacobus, while the Ghost Ark attempts to cut off line of sight to the Necron objective. A unit of Immortals disembark and prepare to devastate the human infantry cowering in the Comm station.
Necron Shooting. The Necrons begin the phase by getting swift revenge. The center Warriors shoot down the remainder of the Heavy Flamer squad.
The Ghost Ark, its Warriors, and the Nightscythe fire into Jacobus and his Battle squad ultimately killing six troopers. The Immortals dump Tesla shots into the Battle squad on the Comm station and dispatch two.
Necron Assault. Not pictured, the Dominions and the crater Warriors reach a stalemate, with the Cryptek continuing to refuse my challenge. The Overlord and his buddy charge the Battle squad but his bodyguard stumbles to a bolt round on the way in. The Overlord does not challenge and uses Mindshackle Scarabs, hoping to catch the power axe Sergeant. The scarabs fall upon the Priest and he power mauls a trooper to death. In response, the squad dismantles the Overlord. When the dust settles, the Overlord is truly destroyed but the Lord bodyguard has resurrected thanks to Everliving! Slay the Warlord to the chaotic Imperials.
Imperial Turn 4:
Spoiler:
Imperial Movement. Non existent.
Imperial Shooting. The Missile Launcher squad sends a few shots down range and remove the last Destroyer.
Imperial Assault. The remains of the leftmost Battle Squad assault the Immortals looking to hold them back, fighting to a stalemate!
Necron Turn 4:
Spoiler:
Necron Movement. The Nightscythe approaches gun line low, with cannons charged. The Necron Warriors on the redoubt huddle up and take cover, while the Ghost Ark begins to withdraw.
Necron Shooting. The Nightscythe fires into the Retributor squad killing two. The Tesla chain attack then manages to drop three from the Psyker Battle squad, and kills off the entire Autocannon squad!
Necron Assault. Not pictured, The rightmost Dominion squad and the crater Warriors continue to dance, challenge unaccepted. Meanwhile the Immortal strike down a trooper and the Battle squad falls back! The Immortals attempt to consolidate behind the Comm station.
Imperial Turn 5:
Spoiler:
Imperial Movement. The Battle squad rallies and moves up towards the Immortals again. The Missile Launcher squad moves unto the Comm station to get closer to the objective.
Imperial Shooting. First the gun line enacts FRFSRF on the Immortals, then the Platoon Commander promptly drops the Nightscythe with his Quad-gun. On the heels of the explosion, the leftmost Battle squad fires into the Immortals as well, all together dropping four. To ensure the damage is done the Psykers force the metal men to fall back, leaving their fallen brethren behind.
Imperial Assault. The remaining Lord avoid challenging the combatants for fear of fighting the Power axe wielding Sergeant. Instead he randomly catches the Priest in his Mindshackle Scarabs again, but the trooper stuck survives. On the right, the Dominions and Warriors pillow fight furiously.
Necron Turn 5:
Spoiler:
Necron Movement. Not pictured, the Immortals rally and creep back into the Imperial deployment zone.
Necron Shooting. The Immortals fire on the Platoon Command in the Comm station, killing all but the Beastman commander. The Ghost Ark and Warriors lay into the Battle squad leaving just a single trooper. Both units lose their damned minds and hastily fall back.
Necron Assault. The Cryptek finally grows a pair and challenges the Dominion back. The Traitor Sergeant gleefully accepts and is cut down for his troubles! The Warriors proceed to sweep the squad.
On the other side, the traitors refuse the Lord's challenge and allow the Power axe Sergeant to hack down the last of the Lords. He does not rise again. The Squad consolidates towards the redoubt.
At this point we roll for Turn 6 and get a big ole "2" so the Necrons go back to sleep and the Guardsmen go back to work. We tally up the points and find the Guardsmen barely manage a victory on bonus points. While the Imperials have their home objective as well as First Blood and Slay the Warlord, the Missile Launcher squad is not close enough for the second objective. The Necrons on the other hand have firmly secured their objective and the Immortals have earned them Linebreaker.
End Results!
Traitor Guard: 5
Necrons: 4
Minor human victory! Go home xenos!
This is the first time I've gone through the trouble to post one of these. Please let me know what I can do to improve my battle reports! Thanks for reading!

One thing I don't get. Did the Psyker battle squad not do anything all game? It seems like you would have been able to use them to drop down the Ld of several of the units you were shooting at early game to force some impossible morale checks. Were they out of range?

They dropped a large blast on the large Warrior squad, then the following turn they Used Weaken Resolve to force that same squad to retreat and then later they used Weaken Resolve on the Immortals to force them back. I might not have worded it very clearly and I didn't remember to take many pictures. Thanks for the feedback!
