    Just wondering how to create an effective charred armor effect. Do
you just dry brush blacks and grays? Or is something more involved?

Various black/brown/chestnut ink washes (of various concentrations) worked when I did it. Sorry no specific combination to give you. I went mostly by "feel" if you will. Just experiment until you find something that works for you.
