I cannot decide if I want a plasma pistol or combi-melta on my power sword Champion. I will be running melta in the other two gun slots. I already have a plasma squad(PG,PG,CP). Also, should I deepstrike MSU raptor squads or jump larger ones?

The worst part about 40k is that my models don't hug me back. |

Hows it going, in my opinion you should just give him the powet sword and let that be enough. Your going to be trying.to get them into cqc as quick as possible or use them as throw aways to pop a tank or something. Pretty much you dont want to put to many points into them aka a ps on the champ and two special weapons in a squad of five, keep them cheap. and as for how to play them. it all depends on what they need to do and what would be the quickest most effecient way to get there.

If you ever find yourself wondering if you should give a model a plasma pistol, stop right there. No, you shouldn't. Ever. Unless you just want it because it looks cool.
Combi-melta is a big maybe, really just a sword works. Don't wanna be spending 25+ points on a single already overcosted MEQ model.

You don't actually want a Sword, ever. Unless you really love the model. In nearly all circumstances you will be better served with a single Lightning Claw- doubly so if you decide to go for a Combi Melta. The Power Sword gives you +1 Attack when combined with a Pistol, but on a 2 attack base model, the re-roll to wound from the Lightning Claw will give your Champion the same number of kills on average as the Power Sword, and will surpass the Sword on the Charge. Also remember that if you decide to take a Combi Melta, that replaces one of your champions weapon options- either his bolt pistol or ccw. Which means a Combi-Melta + Power Sword Champion does not get the additional attack from two close combat weapons. So ALWAYS go for a Lightning Claw in that case.
Really if I were to save points, I'd go 2x Melta + Combi Melta, and keep them as a 5 Man deep striking squad. That keeps em pretty cheap, and they can perform a role similar to Termicide.

Just throwing in my agreement with the above. If you insist on a cc weapon do lightning claw. Claw is always better than sword. And I always do combi of whatever on the sgt, especially melta because mroe chances to pop something that needs popped. I'd vote just combi and no cc weap personally.
