3 Servitors, 3 Multi-melta, Chimera w/ 2 Heavy Bolters, psyammo
3 Psykers, Chimera w/ 2 Heavy Bolters, psyammo

This tournament scores people on the number of objectives, not your wins/losses. So, everyone was using the same number of objectives and same deployment time.

Game 1, Crusade, Vanguard Strike vrs Grey Knights
Spoiler:
Draigo
10 Paladins
5 Marines, Razorback w/ Heavy Bolter
10 Marines
Vindicare Assassin
Dreadnaught
Stormraven w/ MM & Plasma Cannon

The board was a desert landscape. Each side had a small hill and there were some LOS blocking pieces of terrain scattered about. There were 3 objectives and I placed 2 in my deployment zone, while my opponent placed one in his.

For deployment, I setup both Dominion squads and a BSS on the right, directly across from his objective. Coteaz and the Psyker Chimeras were in the middle. Behind some LOS terrain were Celestine and the Seraphim, while the remaining Chimera and BSS squads were on the left side. The Exorcists picked what cover they could in my backfield, just in case I lost first turn.

My opponent chose to deepstrike Draigo with 5 Paladins. His squad of marines were in the center on a hilltop with the other Paladins to their right and the Razorback to their left. The dreadnaught stood by his objective. The servo skulls forced the Vindicare to infiltrate his rightmost corner of the board behind some ruins.

My Dominions scout straight forward, aiming for the Razorback and Dreadnaught.

Turn 1:
Coteaz and the Inquisitor prescience their units. Celestine and Seraphim advance about 6-7” towards the middle of the board, completely out of LOS. The Dominions move up again, but are outside of melta range, so do not disembark. One Exorcist drives onto the hill to be able to see everything, while the other two take up positions to the left and right-most parts of my forces, giving me a deadly crossfire. The 2 BSS Immolators take up position to fire and head towards his objective, while one only moves up a bit so that I can still claim objectives at the end of the game.

Shooting sees the vindicare assassin eat a multi-melta shot and die. A volley of S8 AP1 heads his way and guns down 2 of the Paladins and all of the marines on the hill.

On his turn, the Paladins move up and the marines disembark from the Razorback, while the dreadnaught lines up a shot at a Dominion Immolator. His shooting isn’t overly effective, as only the Dominion Immolator and the Inquisitor’s Chimera gets wrecked.

Turn 2:
One set of Dominions move up to the Razorback while the other set disembarks near the Dreadnaught. The Inquisitor leads her Servitors back towards one of my objectives. The Exorcists mostly stay still, while the Seraphim jump over their LOS cover, right in front of the Paladins.

The Dominions blow up the Razorback and the Dreadnaught. Praying for the ability to Shred their opponent, Celestine and the Seraphim blaze into the Paladins, but only kill 1 of them. The Paladins were very fortunate, as it took all 3 Exorcists to finish off the last 2. This left only a marine squad on the board for my opponent.

On his turn, both Draigo and the Stormraven fail to show up. With only his marines, he charges the Dominions, starting a combat where they just slap each other.

Turn 3:
With no targets to shoot, I spend my time moving towards objectives. The Seraphim jump towards the assault, but are still too far away. The assault continues with minimal casualties.

On his turn, both the Storm Raven and Draigo arrive. In a bold move, he tries to deepstrike Draigo in my back left corner, about 7” from either board edge. However, Draigo scattered off the board, and rolled a 1 on the mishap table, losing him to the warp. The Stormraven arrived, but failed to blow up the Immolator it aimed at.

Turn 4:
I move troops onto all 3 objectives while Prescienced Multi-melta gun down the Stormraven. Celestine and the Seraphim assault the marines, finishing them off in a single charge.

This ended the game with me winning 12 - 0

Thoughts:
Certainly a bad matchup for my opponent as he certainly didn’t appear to have much anti-tank weaponry. And of course Draigo & 5 Paladins deciding to skip out on the fight was rough too, though I don’t think that would have changed the outcome at all. The turn they would have arrived, they would have been the only thing to really shoot at. However, his small army didn’t help him any.

Game 2, The Relic, Hammer & Anvil vrs Daemons w/ Chaos
Spoiler:
Bloodthirster
Chaos Lord
Cultists
2 Heralds
16 Bloodletters
16 Bloodletters
Maulerfiend
Hounds
More Hounds
Helldrake
Soulgrinder?
Aegis Defense Line with Quadgun

The center of this board was dominated with a Skypad and Bastion on top of it. Otherwise, there was some LOS blocking terrain in the back corners, but nothing else in the middle. My Servo Skulls prevented his hounds from scouting forward. The relic was placed on the Skypad, to the right of the Bastion (used as terrain by the store, not as their fortification counterparts). The Aegis was deployed on the upper left side of the board.

I deployed with both Dominion squads on the upper half of the board. Celestine and the Seraphim were in the middle of my forces, along with Coteaz’s Chimera. The other two Chimera were on the top-most part of the board, while the BSS Immolators were around mid-field. All of the Exorcists were around the middle of the field.

He deployed the Chaos Lord to man the Quad Gun, while using the Cultists as extra wounds. Both units of Flesh Hounds were led by a Herald and at the bottom side of the board, with the Soulgrinder to back them up. The Bloodthirster and Maulerfiend were in the center, directly behind the Bastion/Skyshield combo.

The Hounds scout forward, but just a tiny bit. Both Dominion units drive up the field.

Turn 1:

The Dominions move up and one unit disembarks with their eyes on the Maulerfiend. The other Dominions stay on board with no real targets to go after. The Chimera advance along with the Immolators, while the Seraphim move into position to counter-charge all of the Hounds.

The Dominions open fire and take down the Maulerfiend with some help from their Immolator. I only have a few shots into the Hounds, and shoot down a couple. Most of my shooting was useless firing at Cultists behind the Aegis. But at least I had First Blood.

On his turn, the Bloodthirster swooped ontop of the Bastion. One Herald split off and teamed up with his brother Herald into one unit of Hounds that lept forward and wrecked an Immolator. The other unit of hounds mauled the Dominions that had left the safety of their Immolator. The Soulgrinder trudeged forward and the Quad Gun blazed away, but didn’t do anything significant.

Turn 2:
The Seraphim leap into flaming position of the Hounds along with the displaced BSS from their Immolator. The empty Dominion Immolator sneaks around behind the Bastion/Skyshield, while 1 of the BSS Immolators parks in front of the Bastion/Skyshield.

My opening volley from Coteaz’s Chimera drops the Bloodthirster from the sky, which was easy pickings at that point for some Exorcists. The Seraphim Shred into the Heralds and Hounds, while the Battle Sisters apply more templates on the remains, leaving only the Heralds standing and wounded. The remaining shots I had found themselves uselessly into the cultists again, slowly whittling them down, as the second pack of dogs was out of LOS. The empty Dominion Immolator takes a pot shot at the Soulgrinder for no effect. Celestine leads the seraphim into assault with the Heralds, piling on a few more wounds.

On his turn, the Helldrake and one unit of Bloodletters fail to show up, but the other unit of Bloodletters deepstrikes onto the Skyshield, near the objective. The Quad Gun cracks open the Dominion Immolator, leaving them exposed to the Hound’s charge, while the Soulgrinder multi-assaults the Seraphim and the empty BSS Immolator, cracking open the Immolator. The Seraphim hit & run out of this combat though, so that the Soulgrinder can be shot at.

Turn 3:
The Seraphim fly back for more flaming goodness while the empty Dominion Immolator moves 12” to get a snapfire shot at the back of the Soulgrinder. The battle sisters who torched the dogs moved towards the relic. The other BSS Immolator moves to help with the dog problem after it drops off it’s Battle Sisters who move onto the objective. Only one Exorcist moves to have LOS to the Soulgrinder, along with the two BSS Immolator.

The hounds that ate the dominions meet a volley of S8 shots, while heavy bolters pepper the cultists, slowly thinning their ranks. The BSS on the Skyshield go nova, using Preferred Enemy to torch 13 of the 16 Bloodletters, the rest of which are disposed of with my remaining shooting. More wounds are put on the Heralds, who get assault by Celestine once more. However, the Soulgrinder proves to be too tough to damage, so it goes on unwounded.

On his turn, he rolled 6’s on the Warp Storm table, so 2 units of Bloodletters end up deepstriking in on me, though the Helldrake continues to be lost. The first unit comes in exactly where the second unit had been at, while the other one comes in by Coteaz’s Chimera, which ends up eating a few MM from Coteaz’s unit. The Soulgrinder trudges forward, but fails to wreck the last BSS Chimera, while one of the Heralds fall to Celestine, earning me Slay the Warlord. The Seraphim leave combat once more, aiming toward the Skyshield

Turn 4:
The BSS with the relic move it away from the Bloodletters as best they can, while still counting on their flamers to help with the horde. They are blessed when Celestine leads the Seraphim onto the Skyshield on the opposite side of the Bastion, also intent on dealing with the Bloodletters. The BSS walking move to flamer the new arrival of the Bloodletters at the base of the Skyshield.

Plenty of flame erupts on the Skyshield, killing all but 3 Bloodletters. The Bloodletters on the ground aren’t as lucky, as a combination of Fire and Bolter finishes them off. More shots pour into the Soulgrinder, and it finally falls to a melta shot from the empty Dominion MM that was still driving around behind it. The cultists are finally finished off.

With a roar, the Helldrake finally arrives and soars above the Bastion, taunting Coteaz and the MM shots that only put 1 hull point of damage on it. It’s breath washes over the Battle Sisters holding the relic, vaporizing them. The Bloodletters move to capture the relic, but the fail to move far enough.

Turn 5 (We have 10 minutes left, so last turn):
Enraged, Celestine leads the remains of the Seraphim into a bloody assault with the bloodletters, but finishes them off. The BSS on the ground move to the base of the Bastion, but can not move far enough to capture the relic. The empty Dominion Immolator moves into my opponent’s deployment zone. Every gun I had fired at the Helldrake, but failed to bring it down.

The Helldrake flies into my deployment zone while his Quad Gun fails to blow up the Immolator that had snuck into his deployment zone.

End of game, I ended up winning 3 - 1

Thoughts:
My opponent had some bad rolls. His first Warpstorm roll was double 1’s, followed by a 1 & 2 next turn. But he did get 12 extra bloodletters as well. And of course the lucky Soulgrinder. I should have aimed more at it and sent an extra unit after the relic earlier – the 3” movement to climb up the Skyshield made it so I couldn’t grab the relic on the last turn. For some reason, I kept shooting at those cultists, though to be fair he didn’t have a whole lot to shoot at a good bit of the time.

Game 3, Big Guns Never Tire, Dawn of War, vrs Imperial Knights w/ Blood Angel Allies

Spoiler:
3 Imperial Knights
Chaplin
6-7 Deathcompany, 2 Power Fists, Drop Pod
Dreadnaught, MM, Magna Claw, Drop Pod
Dreadnaught, MM, dual flamers, Drop Pod

This board is literally covered in terrain, with a few LOS blocking pieces in the middle and on both sides of the board. I setup servo skulls, though they don’t have much of a purpose this game, other than the reduce scatter for the psykers in case he deepstrikes the death company near one.

There are 4 objectives. I put two in my deployment zone, while he puts one to the right of mid-field, and one at the edge of my deployment zone, in the center.

He sets up his Warlord Imperial Knight in the center of his deployment area, with the other two to the left.

I setup both Dominion squads across from the left IKs. The Inquisitor Chimera and an Exorcist are in the back left corner near an objective. Coteaz and Celestine are in the center of my army, along with the remaining BSS Immolators and the psyker Chimera to the right of them, providing cover for the two Exorcists, who were near some nice firing lanes.

The Dominions scout straight towards the Imperial Knights.

My first chance to use Coteaz, I and don’t want to steal Initiative. Come closer IKs.

Turn 1:
The Chaplin’s drop pod comes in to the Right of Coteaz, while the Magna Claw Dreadnaught’s pod comes in right in front of Coteaz. Coteaz gets me an easy first blood when the MM Servitors blow up a drop pod while the marines pile out into the nearby forest. The dread’s MM misses the Dominion Immolator it was next to. The Knights move forward and unleash their limited, but powerful shots. One immobilizes the Inquisitor’s Chimera, while another fires a battle cannon that insta-kills Celestine! Thankfully, she revives to continue the fight. One knight assaults a Dominion Immolator, easily wrecking it, while the other Knight fails to charge the other Dominion Immolator.

On my turn, the Inquisitor casts prescience on the Dominions. The Dominions move up, placing themselves between two IKs. The other unit of Dominions disembark and place themselves between the WL IK and another IK. Celestine and the Seraphim move to flame the Death Company, while the psykers disembark to move towards an objective and to let their empty Chimera move to act as a roadblock. One BSS Immolator skirts around the far right side of the board, while the other two move towards the WL IK.

Then the shooting phase is announced, and I see a look of concern from my opponent, as I was able to setup a number of shots at different facings to his IK. His Ion shields go up, protecting him from the two Dominion squads that were in position. A great volley of fire went off as loads of melta shots and exorcist missiles were fired into the three behemoths. The shields started to fail and their hulls becoming torn from the onslaught, and then the middle Knight exploded and toppled over to the left, exploding right on top of the left-most Imperial Knight. 5 Dominions died in that explosion, but one IK was down and the remaining two had 2 Hull Points remaining.

Not to be out done, Celestine and the Seraphim Shred the Death Company, killing off some, and then assaulted them. The Death Company and the Chaplin proved that they were no normal marines as they felt no pain to the wounds caused.

Turn 2:
The MM/Flamer Dread dropped in, blowing the MM off of a BSS Immolator. The left IK moved up next to Coteaz’s Chimera, while the WL IK became entangled in the woodlands, moving very slowly. The Magna Claw Dread damaged the empty Dominion Immolator, but did not destroy it. However, battle cannon shots from the IK did finish off the Dominion threat. The assault with Celestine continued with few casualties from both sides.

Then the IK assaults Coteaz’s Chimera, which had both Prescience and Foreboding cast on the Servitors inside. 3 TL MM shots at full BS finished off the IK before it made it to assault. It’s resulting explosing caused no noticeable damage.

The BSS Immolator that was now lacking a MM sped away, looking to claim linebreaker. The empty Chimera parked right in front of the WL IK. Coteaz began to whittle away at the Drop Pods and Celestine continue to hack away at the Death Company and their Chaplin. A volley of melta and missiles brings down both the Magna Claw dread and the WL IK.

Turn 3:
The MM/Flamer Dread moves, but does little, and the Chaplin is stuck in a losing assault with Celestine.

Vehicles move and objectives are claimed. Melta finishes off the last Dread and Celestine finishes off the Death Company.

End: I win this match 12 -0

Thoughts:
I can see how the Imperial Knights can be very difficult if you’re not prepared for them. To be honest, I actually meta gamed and tailored my list to handle them – I had heard of someone having 3 Imperial knights, and in the tournament of 12 people, 2 people were each running armies of 3 Imperial Knights. The Exorcists weren’t doing a lot to them. However, my opponent nicely moving into melta range first turn was a poor idea, and I didn’t understand him assaulting Coteaz’s Chimera. The Knight’s ability to Heavy Stubber something close by, then Battle Cannon something far away is very nice as it let my opponent wreck two things at once.

I did forget to hit & run Celestine out of the assault, but that didn’t end up changing how the game ended.

For what it’s worth, my opponent was saying how I was the only one to down any of his Knights. I know he played against 3 Riptide Tau w/ O’vesa.

I realize that throughout this tournament, not only did none of my Exorcists blow up, none of them were even shot at! Unreal. I wasn’t overly impressed with the Psykers, but I didn’t really expect to be either. It was luck as part of it – their Psychic barrage always scattered. I’m also on the fence about Celestine and her Seraphim. In games one and three they weren’t really necessary, though I certainly wouldn’t say they were useless either. The Chimera with psyammo (and the psykers) were really in there to help with hordes, and I didn’t really play a horde army.
