It was late at the gaming club, just me and the store owner, and because we both know the rules well, and play quickly, when it's just us we like to get a little freaky. Thus the 5.5k battle including a Felblade, Fulgrim, and a big ol' fortification happened. It was a mission out of Stronghold Assault with three objectives and victory points to the defender (me) for killing his units, and victory points to the attacker (him) for line breaker and getting units off my table edge. The deployment is forced Hammer and Anvil.

The pictures are inconsistent at first, because the batrep idea hit me around turn 2. The pictures are also HUGE (Galaxy S3?) and I'm too noob to figure out how to make them reasonable, so I'll just link them.

Deployment:

Vertical Image Syndrome I'm sorry! It's only like this for the deployments. We rolled 4 terrain pieces on my end, and the fort kind of took up all of them. As far as I know the only way to win with Space Marines is to clog the meat grinder and hope you can bubble wrap the objective while being ineffective at killing anything. Thus my deployment was stacked with emergency troops in the Rhinos to sweep up and grab objectives at the last minute while the rest of my stuff dies.

His deployment involves a lot of AV13/14. Thankfully he didn't take his drop pod list, because why even play Hammer and Anvil then?

So we're ready to start. Does he seize the initiative? No. I go first.

Turn 1:

This is his movement Turn 1, because my turn one shooting was extremely ineffective, as anyone who spotted the 3 vindicators out of range could have guessed (this is what happens with vindicators). So my shooting was so ineffectual I didn't even take a picture. I did manage first blood on one of the Contemptor Dreadnoughts, and killed a few of the autocannon guys. He moved up a bunch.

This is the end of his shooting, which was pretty effective. Yes, he did one-shot that Firestorm Redoubt on my left flank with a lascannon, and yes that does happen every game I take it. My casualties also include a few tac marines in the middle there, a few scouts in the crater, and he took out one dreadnought and the las cannon of another.

Turn 2:

The end of my turn 2. Another turn of Relictor's trying to figure out how guns work (let alone magnets). Can you spot the damage? A few hull points on those vehicles, actually. The redemption of this turn is I managed to immobilize the Spartan, which is about as good as a pessimistic marine can hope for against that thing.

This is the end of his turn. His reserves came in consisting of the Storm Eagle and the assault marines. My 4 twin-linked and 1 regular lascannons with interceptor got jinked. (Hey Sarge, WHICH big purple thing am I shooting at?) His shooting was effective once more, stunning 1 of my vindicators and blowing up another. (This is what happens with vindicators.) For those of you who zoomed in to see my right flank, you're right: he DID one shot that other bunker this turn, and yes, that does happen every game I take it.

Turn 3:

This is the end of my turn 3 and-WHOA! What's that Land Raider doing? Well, when you blow up my buildings, they become ruins, and I am notorious for driving my Land Raider on top of things that it has no business driving on top of so we both knew this day was coming. (My proudest moment is one time two rhinos were hullpointed to death in front of my Land Raider and...well you see where that's going.) Termies got out of the ambitious Land Rainder and hit those Assault Marines who ran away (just behind the felblade). Again the concept of shooting eluded my soldiers, as they managed to kill a few power armored men and a guy on a bike who was being particularly flamboyant.

Turn 4:

This is the end of my turn 4 because I forgot to take the end of my opponent's turn 3. Basically you can see what he accomplished in his turn: the death of the building-climbing Land Rainder, the charge of the remaining terminators, and a forward advance in general. But enough of turn 3, let's talk about turn 4. My men figured out how SOMETHING worked, and I shot that Storm Eagle out of the sky, killing the honor guard inside of it and leaving just his 30k Captain guy alive. Who then took a krak missile in the face, and failed his armor save. Can I get an LOL for instant death? (But seriously, poor 30k doesn't have the new Shield of Eternity that 40k marines do.) Also my last vindicator took the only shot the vindicators would see all game and pasted half the 20 man bolter squad that got out of the Spartan.

His turn 4. Fulgrim has taken the field. He led a mighty charge against the-yes, go check the previous image. What's missing? That's right, he charged the single tac marine in that trench. He tried to multi charge into my Chapter Master and Honor Guard and rolled low. But just to add humor to the situation, Fulgrim wasn't even the one who killed the tac marine. Fulgrim rolled a bunch of 1's to wound. What else happened here? Not a lot, actually. He moved his army up realizing with the Storm Eagle gone, his chance to push me off objectives just got a lot slimmer. He did hull point my Storm Talon.

Turn 5:
http://i.imgur.com/ojCEZU5.jpg
This is the end of turn 5, and the end of the pictures unfortunately. So here's the summary of how it went. The game went into turn 6 on the random turn length. The Terminators ran away from the dreadnought they'd been tying up for 2 turns which allowed him to run past them into Line Breaker territory. A lot of things charged fulgrim and died, and then he charged into my Honor Guard and Chapter Master, which was a mixture of a bloodbath and a bounce fest. (Power weapons on artificer armor probably sounds like Stomp mixed with electronica.) That combat was stuck there until the game ended. The rest of his army moved up but just couldn't get there in time. End result: Relictor Victory. 6 Points from Objectives, 6 from enemy units killed and first blood. 12 total to the Emperor's Children's 6 (2 for line breaker as per mission rules, and 4 for something else I can't remember.)

Over all feeling of the game: We had fun. We made our lists before deciding the mission, so we kind of weren't prepared for it. I could have had TWO fortifications (all that stuff I had there just counts as 1 by the way. Lol?) He didn't have a very good rushy army, lots on foot etc. So if you're going to play a Stronghold Assault mission, make sure you know what you're doing before you make your lists.

Looks like a really good game, not seen much 30k before nice to see those marine superheavies. And great to see a primarch on the field!

So how do you feel about the 30k 40k match up?
It seems to be gaining more wide spread acceptance these days and hopefully when forge world release that 30k codex soon it will become more so
