Exscuse me I am currently playing in an escalation league and we just hit the 750 lists.  I had been doing extremely well but I just started having some very big problems with certain lists. . . The other armies I very rarely have issues with but these two just beat my head in. . .

Those Damned Grey Knights

2 x 5 grey knights with 2 psy-cannons

1 Grand Master with scourging (he is going to upgrade to a psy-cannon)

1 Land Raider

Those Damned Demons (Could be a little off)

1 Demon Prince with flying, demonic stature, khorne demon weapon.

2 x 5 Khorne Beserkers

1 x 5 Flesh Hounds

1 Defiler, with that hand to hand weapon that attacks a d6 number of hits all units in assault with it.

My current Tau list is. . .

2 x Shas O, Fusion Gun, Missile Pod, Plasma Rifle, HW Multi-tracker, HW BSF

2 x 6 fire warriors with photon grenades, all pulse rifles

1 x 12 Firewarriors with photon grenades, all pulse rifles

1 Devilfish with Multi-tracker, Decoy launchers

10 Kroot (no shaper)

5 Gun Drones

(Currently available, 3 more gun drones, and some wargear changes, and $20, I was thinking of scrounging another $20, to get a Hammer Head, or to get alot of stealth suits and put some fusion guns on them)

All I can think of to deal with these two is to remove the gun drone squadron, to get EMP grenades, but that will cut me down in scoring units to only 3.

First, your HQ's look very expensive... even with a multitracker, you can only fire two weapons each turn and all suits get 'acute sences' (reroll night fight check) so BSF might be useless. Maybe a Shas'el with plasma and either missile pod or fusion blaster, blus targeting array and multitracker?

I find photon grenades to be useless, do you feel they help you?

A hammerhead with railgun, multitracker, decoy (maybe SMS + targetlock, and maybe fletchette disgargers?) would make a great addition.

I really can't see how you can have difficulties with the Grey Knight, he has a whooping 12 models including the landraider! Remember that a railshot and fusion blaster have ap1, and also doubles the Grand Master's toughness, hence killing him in one shot.

I began with a basic fireknife crisis commander suit (plasma rifle, missile pod), but I added the fusion guns to give me some anti-vehicle punch against the nasties like land raiders and the defilers. . .

The Photon Grenades, frankly they seem to help very little, when my fire warriors get charged it normally doesn't matter because they still lose the combat and then get run down.

One of the missions we are currently using is night fight, and the BSF does seem to help quite a bit but if I got rid of the missile pods, I probably would drop it as well. . .

I am currently trying to get enough cash together for a hammer head, and if I do, I will be dropping a couple things to balance the list a bit more. . .

You require railguns to kill a Land Raider or a KDP and you don't have any. Therein lies the problem. I would have thought it was obvious.

Your opponents lists are hardly going to win freinds, so you could fight them at their own game and take a Shas'el, 6 FWs, 10 Kroot and 3 Railheads.

Oh God, please do. I'm not sure how you'll deal with anything besides the LR or the Demon Prince, but it should still be quite a show. Railheads are nasty. The look on their faces when you pop the LR or insta-kill the DP on turn 2 will be priceless.

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias

I wouldn't be too hard on the Grey Knight player. For normal Marines it is definately wacky to take a LR at 750pts, but for GK thats the only anti tank that they get. And once you get into higher point games, it will be much harder for the GK player to be a serious threat. GK is one of the hardest lists to use effectively, IMO.

Drop the 'bells and whistles', pick up a Railhead or two, and stay mobile against both GK and Khorne. Both struggle at range.
