So, I'm just going to start a mega-thread for all of my battles. It seems to be the best way of doing it, especially considering my battle reports aren't particularly detailed, so I'll just bundle all the discussion together.
Last night, I faced some Astra Militarum. It was my third battle, and my second against a Guard army.
I brought...
1x Chaos Lord
1x Cultist Squad
1x Chosen
1x Possessed
1x Maulerfiend
1x Helbrute
1x Bike Squad
1x Daemon Prince
1x Bloodletters (20 members)
He brought...
I'm not sure, but lots of lascannons, and the new mortar tank model.
We started late in the evening, and didn't get to finish the game properly, but he was definitely winning. He immobilised my Maulerfiend in the first turn, which was a real waste because it's my newest model and I was looking forward to seeing how it would perform. His blast weapons would frequently scatter in the direction of the Maulerfiend and either do nothing, or take hull points, but mostly adding insult to injury.
He cut through my Bloodletters like ribbons. :(
I, however, cut through his Rough Riders in one shooting phase, which I was very happy with.
Anyway, the manager of the shop was trying to kick us out, so he gave us a few minutes to finish up. We elected to decide the battle with a duel between my Daemon Prince and his Commissar, who were actually within charging distance at the time. I charged him, and we fought atop a huge terrain piece in the shape of a castle tower. One assault phase after another, ignoring all other models and phases. He was still on three wounds, and had knocked me down to one, but then I scored three wounds in one round, and his invulnerable saves failed. That was definitely the most fun I've had in a 40k game so far.
Once again, I received many compliments on my Daemon Prince model, except for one dude who made it a dick measuring competition between my Prince and his, which was conspicuously absent. I just kind of ignored him until the end, until he said his Prince had bird wings (it occurs to me now that he might have used actual bird wings, but I really hope not), and I said mine had giant daemon wings. All of the onlookers concurred that mine was better (or just that he was a bit of a gakker). My Bikers were also complimented, and the shop manager looked genuinely amazed at my Possessed Champion who I have posted in a few threads here. He also couldn't believe how structurally stable my Maulerfiend was, given its pose.
Overall, I was very happy with the evening, and am finding myself getting further into this new circle of friends.

And that's what it's all about!
For your next reports, I'd recommend taking some photos and perhaps getting a list of what he brings and describing the game by turns.

Yes, I think photos are a good idea. Unfortunately, I'm awful at remembering details like that, but I'll try to do a little better the next time.

Khorne Veteran Marine with Chain-Axe

I had two battles on Monday, and one was much more enjoyable than the other. Unfortunately, I didn't take any photos. I just get distracted by the game and forget to take photos.
The first game was against a Space Marine Grav Gun Spam Force.
My list consisted of...
1x Chaos Lord
2x Cultist Squad
1x Chosen
1x Possessed
1x Maulerfiend
1x Helbrute
1x Bike Squad
1x Rhino
1x Daemon Prince
1x Bloodletters (20 members)
I was facing...
1x Librarian
1x Predator
1x Vindicator
1x Scouts
1x Dreadnought
1x Space Marine Flyer
Various tactical and heavy weapon squads.
I walked into the shop with the intention of finding a partner to play. I'm still new at my shop, so I don't have many contacts, and because of this I still need to turn up and hope there is somebody to play. So, this kid, maybe 15 or 16, asks me if I want to play a game of 40k. I say yes, and he asks what army do I have. Before I can answer he's saying "please don't be Space Marines, please don't be Space Marines." I tell him I play Chaos Daemons/Marines, and he says "Oh good, that means I can beat you."
So, on the advice of this forum, I mentioned that my list isn't very competitive and that my army was almost entirely close combat. I asked if we could play a more narrative, objective based game. He said sure, but continued to talk over me. He positioned his army in the fortifications that were present on the board already. I didn't realise you had to pay points for fortifications, and when someone else brought up the issue later, he said that they were there already, he was just taking advantage of it. I then had to deploy on the far side of an almost open killing field, running towards his gun line.
I eventually convinced him to play a more narrative game, that my Rhino contained a Daemonic book, that when read from inside the imaginary town on the far side of the fortifications would turn all the citizens to Chaos, and they would overrun the Astartes.
The game lasted three turns. In each of my turns, I moved toward him, shooting when I could. I took one hull point from his Predator, and killed one Marine in assault on the third turn.
He shot me to pieces, entirely with save-ignoring weapons. My Daemon Prince, Maulerfiend, and Lord where killed in his first shooting turn. He also immobilised my Rhino, which contained the Book and my squad of Possessed.
As some of you may know, I take great pride in my modeling, and while not all of my pieces are completely constructed and painted, the ones that are look quite impressive if I do say so myself. Several times people came to the table to admire my models, and I thanked them. Each time he would shout over them, and show off one of his Marines that he had haphazardly attached an oversized Dreadnought power fist onto. I'm not sure whether people were just not impressed, or whether they recognised he was being a little gakker, but they just ignored his attempts to show off, which I was quite happy about. I mean, I'm an adult, twenty-four years old, I don't need friends to stand up for me against a fifteen year old, but it felt good anyway.
In my second turn, I attempted to Deep Strike my Bloodletters, but I rolled a 1 and they were lost to the Warp. This started his round of telling everyone in the shop how bad my dice rolls were and about all of my downfalls.
He just proceeded to obliterate me, as all of my shooting and deep striking units were out of action and I had no choice but to walk across the killing fields, hoping something would survive. Plus, in my head, my guys are out for blood and wouldn't dare to hide behind cover, waiting to be hunted out and strike that way.
For the sake of the objective, my Possessed Champion took the Book out of the Rhino and attempted to bring it behind the fortifications. When my Champion was killed, I said that one of the other members of the squad had it. I don't think I was being a sore loser, I was just trying to give myself some chance of winning, trying to return some element of fun to the game. When the whole squad had died, I claimed it was a trick and that it had never left the Rhino which was still alive at this point. He got angry at this point, claiming I played Khorne, not Tzeentch, and this was unfair, but most of the onlookers were supportive of this. Needless to say, I lost.
I won't recount the details of my conversation with a member of staff afterwards as it was probably politically incorrect, but he mostly just told me that I had had a perfect demonstration of why you should only play against like-minded people.
My second battle was much more enjoyable. I played the same list against an Imperial Guard force.
I don't remember his list, but it contained two Leman Russes, several squads of Death Korps of Krieg, and White Scar Bikes.
This was a much more even match, with me gaining an early advantage by destroying both of his Leman Russes in the second turn (I went second). One with my Prince, and one with my Bloodreaper's Hellfire Gaze. However, then his White Scars arrived in reserve and gave him the advantage back. The game had to end after the third turn, because it was closing time, and we deemed it a draw based on kill points and all those other things that I don't understand yet.
There was one particularly fun moment when his command squad were atop a tower terrain piece. The open roof had a hatch, and the bottom had a door. I was attempting to assault with my Bloodletters (who successfully Deep Struck this time, right in the middle of the enemy), but they had gotten right to the front of tower in the movement phase, and even a double one on the dice would have given me enough to charge. So, we imagined that instead of me rolling to charge, I was rolling to see would the elevator come. It did, and I killed everyone except his Commissar.
All in all, it was a much more enjoyable game, and we have agreed to play again. We also discovered that we both used to play 3rd Ed as kids, and will have a game of 3rd Ed too.
My tally so far...
CSM/CD vs. IG: 1 Win/1 Draw/1 Loss
CSM/CD vs. CSM: 0 Win/0 Draw/1 Loss
CSM/CD vs. SM: 0 Win/0 Draw/1 Loss

soooooo, you're basically saying that when the kid killed your possessed champion, and you "tricked" him, that you were cheating.... a child..... in a toy soldier game..... and he's the little "gakker"??
rofl after reading that I'm glad to hear you got stomped, you should be ashamed of yourself.
"forging a narrative" and what you did were two different things.
you lied, and cheated. against a child no less.
khorne himself would hand you a mighty elbow drop for such cowardly behavior.

Oh don't take life so seriously. He'd been a dick to me all game. He wouldn't even allow me to count my losses as a victory by saying "blood for the blood god," etc., he would just say there was no blood or skulls left as his guns had completely vaporized my men. If he wasn't going to let me play how I wanted to play, I thought it was okay to be a dick back to him.

Umm... yeah. Well, I guess that settles it. It's OK to treat someone in a way that you dislike if they treat you in that manner first. Gotcha.

Jesus it was just a joke that I made to try to inject some humour into the situation. I had a single Rhino against an entire gunline that had only lost one Marine. The game was lost, I just wanted to see if I could get through his lines. I think everyone is overreacting a little here.

Sounds like the kid is a gakker. I used to be that way, and must confess...it'll take a bit for him to stop. I agree with the store manager: Find people who want to play for the sake of playing. People who, for the sake of narrative, don't care if you reroll the charge to make some epic challenge, or have secret objectives, or whatnot.

Yo chill!
The dude was playing a list that he knew had the advantage, and sounded like an arrogant feth("Oh good I can beat you"). The OP was just trying to have fun. Have you ever played a game where you through some rules out the window, or let an opponent reroll some stuff to make the game more interesting? I play competitively, and must say: I enjoy close games alot more. I genuinely don't like it when I table someone with little effort. If I'm playing a noob, I break out my foot slogging horde Daemons! I don't wanna be the person who leaves a bad taste in the opponent's mouth.
And remember: You yourself said "it's a game of plastic toys". So have fun with it. Obviously the game in question was a one-sided game. The kid even gave him free fortifications and apparently little terrain on the other side. That's cheating. Doing what the OP did is a narrative, and it totally sounds like something Chaos would do. "There is a book in that blasphemous Rhino, destroy it! The book isn't in there?" Of course not, these guys betrayed the Emprah, they know how to deceive!
Bottom line: The two players had different motives. One wanted to win, one wanted to have fun.

I played Eldar tonight, and got completely tabled, but my opponent was a cool guy, so I didn't mind. We played a 1750 game, as that will be the size of an upcoming tournament, and we wanted to test out our lists before the big thing.
I had...
1x Chaos Terminator Lord
10x Chaos Terminators
10x Cultists
1x Maulerfiend
2x Heldrakes (One never made it into play)
1x Bloodthirster
20x Bloodletters
He had...
Avatar
Wave Serpant
2x Reaper Squads
Hover Bike Squad
Other Eldar dudes
On my Warlord trait table I got Infiltrate, so I was able to infiltrate all of infantry. I also went first, and so I had all of my forces on his half of the table in my first turn. I killed a few dudes, but was mostly setting up for my assault in turn two.
On his first turn, he killed my Bloodthirster, my Maulerfiend, all of my Bloodletters, and half of my Cultists. However, he didn't touch my Terminators.
On turn two, I brought my Heldrake into play, killed a dude in Vector Strike, and killed seven other dudes with the Baleflamer, including a guy with a flak missile launcher. My terminators killed some more dudes.
On his second turn, he took two wounds from my Heldrake, and killed five Terminators, and my remaining Cultists.
It was then time to close the shop, and I conceded the game to him. I think other people were trying to help me out by saying I could have pulled through, but I think it's safe to say he would have won.
I don't think I'll be playing this list in the tournament. It was a very enjoyable game though.
My tally so far...
CSM/CD vs. IG: 1 Win/1 Draw/1 Loss
CSM/CD vs. CSM: 0 Win/0 Draw/1 Loss
CSM/CD vs. SM: 0 Win/0 Draw/1 Loss
CSM/CD vs. Nec: 0 Win/1 Draw/0 Loss
