So I recently got three Imperial Guard Chimeras where I will be using the hull to build custom Exorcists. Which means I won't be using the turrets.

So I figured I could throw them on a piece of scenery, probably with the Heavy Bolters as their armament.

I've been wanting to make some sort of tall line of sight obscuring wall. Something that really allows a lot of creeping around it, not just with cover saves, but with an actual broad front of zero vision.

My first thought was a straight cement wall, with the turrets perched atop it at intervals, but not only is that a bit boring, but it also makes very little sense. Who put one wall out in the middle of a battlefield?
I've also been thinking of making some sort of open platform mechanicum chop-shop/fuel dump with a tall wall on one side of it (with the turrets on top.) but I can't quite form an image of it in my mind.

So I was hoping you guys could give me some good ideas.

What I have is:
3 Chimera turrets
fantastic amounts of foamboard
Pegasus Hobbies Chemical Plant box

Build off the chemical plant? Add a building next to it that could be the main control room and have plenty of observation decks as well as a roof access?

That's my 6am on the train to work idea

You could build a compound of sorts with a concrete wall made from styrofoam, with two turrets guarding the entrance and one maybe elevated on a watchtower. The side walls could be broken (battle damage), to allow for movement around the flanks.

The chem plant parts might look better if built horizontally / close the ground, with walkways on top / around.

God fornøjelse!

In reality a strategic plant or building being held by a force, would have protection built around it.. So firstly thered be sandbag emplacements, and earth/sand berms if possible, and as logisitcal elements arrived, more permanent set up would be built.. Nowadays they use hesco bastion blocks. So you could do sandbag walls, maybe with some dugouts or trenches, or if your main force has arrived, make some blast walls, with sangars and watch towers, and maybe some sort of command tent or bunker. Sorry for the long winded military geek answer.

You could build Sentry Guns from the turrets. Magnetize the point where the gun attaches so you can use different weapon types.
Or sell/trade them. Most IG players could use some extra turrets.

Some kind of compound, like the one in Starship Troopers where they have anti-aircraft machine guns on platforms. Use the turrets on top of towers.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I think you are looking at either a fortress with a fuel dump, or a fortress with flame-turrets. If you have a fortress with flame turrets, then make it a monastery with fleur de lis EVERYWHERE, censers, etc. and make it a sororitas fortress.

for the fuel dump, I'd build a square block with a tower, boilers/drums around the base with pipes going into the building, pipes running out of it, one or two sections of long pipeline that turn 45* and then bury into the ground. Add fences and gak around those and a connection to the buildings at the other. There'd be a vehicle bay next to the "plant", a set of rickety steps leading up to the tower, and the tower would be made to look like an office type building, while the squat block part of it like the indoor component hiding machinery like pumps etc. Then the defence system could be independent L-shaped bunkers, with an option to link them together. You'd need one additional gate section in there.

for the sororitas thing, it'd be an octagon, with two walls rising up to form a tower which would on the inside of the octagon be a monastery/chapel thing. The fuel things would be at the base of it, hidden away behind a cage, but the frame would be all churchy like. Pipes lead out of of there aroudn the periphery of the wall and link into the wall. Three walkways would lead away from the wall, to shorter squat bunkers with the turrets on top of those. You could add "water cannons" along the walls that link into the pipework as well, just add a glacis/armor plate to reflect the heat.

To glimpse the future, you must look to the past and understand it. Names may change, but human behavior repeats itself. Prophetic insight is nothing more than profound hindsight.

It doesn't matter how bloody far the apple falls from the tree. If the apple fell off of a Granny Smith, that apple is going to grow into a Granny bloody Smith. The only difference is whether that apple grows in the shade of the tree it fell from.
