Subject: Neoclassical Punk Zydeco Rockabilly Appreciation Thread
Decided to start a thread where we can share some of our less 'conventional' musical preferences, songs and/or bands that blend influences and genres to give that bizarre 'foreign', almost cabaret style sound. I'll start with some of my favorites:
1. Kaizers Orchestra - This might or might not be a household name to some of you European/Scandinavian members, but they are sadly relatively unknown in the US (and one would assume the rest of the Americas), despite that they are still my favorite band. Sadly they have retired from making music, but hopefully they come out of retirement in the future so I have a chance at seeing them live. I heartily recommend everyone to give them a listen, even Tom Waits was impressed by them, describing them as "Norwegian storm-trooping tarantellas with savage rhythms and innovative textures. Thinking man's circus music. Way out." I think that says everything you need to know about them.
Spoiler:
2. Gogol Bordello - Gypsy Punks, come on!
Spoiler:
3. Tom Waits - I don't know if he quite fits, but worth a listen:
Spoiler:
4. Squirrel Nut Zippers - "Lounge Revival"
Spoiler:
Fela Kuti - I think Zombie says it all:

Kaizers Orchestra is always a winner, but I can also recommend Russkaja from Austria and Shantel from Germany if you like this kind of music. I'm currently on my iPad, so finding and copying Youtube links is a bit of a bother, but I'll add some tomorrow.
