Nothing more to say right now than that, but I'd imagine this will interest a view, and more info will appear here soon...

This game came and went while I wasn't actively wargaming, but I've still tracked down a few of the minis, no idea about the gameplay, but if the gorgeous minis keep coming, I'll be getting my squee on with the best of them!

This is hardly news - we've known about it for two years now, and nothing has come out of it yet.

Yeah, it's so old, it seems someone picked it up as new, and it worked it's way down the line where I picked it up.

Never mind.

Beasts of War post I'm guessing

- that webpage hasn't been updated since May 2012.

Not directly, I'm guessing the FB post I saw was triggered by that though.

Ahhh, bummer. These were some of my favorite miniatures of all time. You got my hopes up just to dash them to pieces, azreal. Truly, you are history's greatest monster.

I wonder how many people actually played the game? I got a demo once a long time ago. Can't remember specifics but I recall enjoying it. I also don't know why the hell they switched to pre-painted plastics when their metals were so good.

Some of us played and had a local store that supported the line (lucky!), I still have unopened blisterpacks and a load of unpainted Cynwael elves, Ophidians, Devourers of Vile-Tis and Kelt Drunes langushing in a box somewhere.
Confrontation was (and still is) a supremely engaging and fun skirmishgame, a damn shame Rackham got a whiff of the "Let's do the GW-thing!"- & "Hasbros prepainted starwarsminis sells like butter"-viruses and ran their company into the ground buy having no sense of who their customer base where and what they wanted.

I have a little hobby-thread going in the P&M section. Some say it's the best blog on Dakka, some don't agree, most belive it would be better if I finished at least one project some time this century and not just kept starting new ones.
Check it out, you just might like it.

The game was quite popular and their sculpting and modelling style changed the industry forever.

From what I remember from back in the day, the rumor had it the sales grew stagnant, as not enough customers bought the miniatures for gaming, and the company of that size could not sustain itself on catering to painters. The problem was that the game was a mess at that point, with hundreds of profiles, no balance to speak of, entire armies languishing with nobody buying the minis (Sessair Kelts and Mid-Nor dwarves come to mind)... The game needed a hard reboot and a consolidation of the lines.

Given how well AT-43 was doing, they chose to take that path for Confrontation, too. There were many reasons for why it failed, but the chief ones were mismanagement and logistics issues. For example, AT-43 suffered from having too much demand that the Chinese factory could not cope with. They also shouldn't have dropped the unpainted Legends line of high-quality miniatures so soon - it could've appeased the old guard had there been more releases.

For the record, I think C4 was a fine system that needed some tweaks, and the pre-paints, while dodgy at first, grew to be very, very nice by the time the Lions hit. Ram was fantastic, in my opinion. There are loads of unreleased miniatures for C4 that look damn sweet.

Never played the game but loved the minis.

Master of Carnage (the first one) for devourers is still my all time favourite mini.

Probably true. To return the thread to the subject of a new version, I think the problem facing CMON (who I last heard had been contracted by Cyanide to make a new edition) is: how do you reboot a game like Confrontation? Who are you making it for? I think the people most keen for a relaunch (probably of a C3 rewrite) are the ones who already have the rules and models, which means that a campaign that targets them is probably going to be a failure long term.

I occasionally sniff around for news about Phoenix edition, and there doesn't seem to have been any since Blackball were taken off the project amidst a storm of poor playtest feedback, sometime last year. I think that's now two failed attempts to get a ruleset together.

I don't know. As much as I hate to say it, I think I'm coming to the conclusion that Confrontation is truly dead.

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”

-DE- has it down pretty much, but then add in the fact the company was sold twice, the second time to a company that believed it was purchasing a toy and media company(having been renamed to Rackham Entertainment didn't help, I'd heard) not a games company and wanted to gut it as quickly as possible when they found out what they'd actually bought.
