AvP retail release mid-late summer?

KS delivery date was pushed back 2 months, which brings it to July, and retail was originally scheduled for late 2014 with plastic components instead of "KS-exclusive resin components". Has this changed?

They're lovely renders, but I would want to see some pics of actual models before I would consider buying...

Huh, I wonder what happened to the other general Prodos news thread? It had painted shots of actual models in the first post. It may be a good idea to get this one merged with that one (if such a thing is possible), or repost to that one and close this.

Ah, found it!

Oh, and the AvP thread over in the general minis forum should have some actual AvP models as well. Just to give you an idea of how things translate from render to mini.

They've come a long way since a lot of the earlier Kickstarter sculpts for Warzone. The older sculpts are still fairly nicely detailed, but had a few issues with being a bit fine in places (nothing I haven't seen from other companies when just starting out; kinda reminded me of Corvus Belli's love for too-thin legs on female minis and fiddly bits on heavy infantry and aerial troops). The latest stuff retains great detail while also feeling a lot more robust.

But yeah, this thread should probably get amalgamated in to the previous one so we can keep it all in one place.

As an aside, glad to hear things have been worked out for North America retail. I've already been seeing adds for Warzone retail releases over at Wayland and wondered how this side of the pond was coming along. Guess this answers my question.

Sorry for the confusion, I should have said Retail release for AvP for the non boardgame minis is mid to late summer; more likely late summer. Plastic release AvP boardgame is still set for late 2014.

I will get some actual miniature pics up in the next few days.

I have just started working for Prodos in the past few days, so it will take a little time to get up and running. That said yes Ratbot you should be able to pick up Warzone from your Local shop very soon.

Anyone that would like the Local shop added to my contact list feel free to PM me the shops details, phone, email, address and maybe a person of contact in the shop.

I'd prefer to keep this thread separate as I can control the first post and won't have to dredge through a bunch of old posts.

Not of these particular models though.

Renders are great, but they really don't give you a great idea of wat the finished piece will look like. It's one of the things I really dislike about Wyrd's current promotional approach as well...

Perfectly ok. As such, I have locked the previous thread so news can continue in this one.

But yeah, nice to see Warzone might be making its way over. I was wondering what the hell happened to it, I've been seeing pics of the models and videos of people with a physical product on YouTube, but hadn't heard a damn thing about US distribution yet. Valpurgius has a nice hat.

I'm a little disappointed in the alien warriors, though. I remember everyone during the KS was holding out hope that they would be sculpted to look like the ones from Aliens and not the later movies, and that's apparently not the case. Judging from the pics I saw on Facebook it would appear the queen, the crusher, etc. are all the same way. Commandos and hounds look good, but still, I wonder what the deal is with that? Is it just personal preference on Prodos's part? I don't think it could be a licensing thing, since NECA recently produced action figures of the warriors from Aliens that look pretty true to the film and I imagine they'd have to have gotten the license from Fox just like Prodos did for their game. It seems weird to me that Fox would purposely limit them to the design used in AVP (which were the suits from Alien: Resurrection recycled if I'm not mistaken) but not all licensees.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, here's a couple links to the toys. The pictures are a little low quality but you can see the differences between the two. The Prodos warriors look a little more "meaty", and while they do have the iconic phallic-shaped head, exoskeletal rib cage and "vents" coming out of the back, they're missing a lot of the "detail" the original Giger designs had. I know it doesn't matter for a lot of people, and I'm not saying I'm not going to buy into the game based on that alone (no, the prices will probably do that...I remember the KS "discount" prices to be pretty high so retail is probably going to be atrocious for these things), but I'm not fond of it personally.

In other words: Prodoooos, you're doing it wroooong.

I have no idea why this version of the Alien Warrior was chosen, but will ask around and see what I can dig up for you!

Dug up some painted AvP miniatures Pics via Titan Games, they painted them for Prodos demo purposes.

Queen verses loader scale shot

Alien group shot

Preds including the Berserker

Marines and sentry guns

Great to see this thread here

BDJV - Can I ask, does the 'end of year' for the boardgame also apply to those of us who pledged on the KS?

I'm a massive Aliens nut (to the point where I would love to have a Facehugger as a pet), and TBH I don't think there is anything wrong with the Alien design. You are always going to have some digression or interpretation from one design or another, and to me this looks close enough to what I imagine an Alien to be. It's at least 10,000 times better than any other Alien miniature we've seen - Jesus, I have been waiting for 20 years to get miniatures like this! - and has also got the 'OK' from Fox to get this far (yes.. I know they also gave the 'OK' to the AvP movies, but you can't have everything... )

Here's another pic from the big Kickstarter thread in the Miscellaneous section

As far as I'm aware us KS backers get the board game in June/July/whenever they deliver the KS, as we're getting "KS exclusive resin miniatures" rather than waiting for the plastics.

yeah,
sad news.

Alien designer HR Giger dies at 74

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-27390345
The Swiss artist and designer of Ridley Scott's Alien, H. R. Giger, has died aged 74, a spokesperson at Giger's museum in Gruyere has confirmed.
He died in hospital on Monday after he fell down stairs at his Zurich home.

Born in 1940, Giger was best known for his 'Xenomorph' alien in Scott's sci-fi horror masterpiece for which he won a visual effects Oscar in 1980.
He studied architecture and industrial design in Zurich and was known for creating strange dreamscapes.

Meticulously detailed, Giger's surrealist paintings were usually produced in large formats and then reworked with an airbrush and usually feature scenes of humans and machines fused together.
Giger described his style as "biomechanical".
One of his pieces in particular - Necronom IV - inspired the alien killer in Sir Ridley's hit film.
He also worked on Aliens 3 (1992) and, more recently, appeared in a documentary about director Alejandro Jodorowsky's unmade film of the book Dune.
....

No the KS exclusive game will ship in about 2 months as specified in the latest KS update. End of the year is the plastic retail version of the boardgame.

As I am in the US and not in the studio, I will see what I can do. That said as soon as I have minis in hand I promise a few comparison shots.

Very sad news about Giger

I always found his work rather disturbing, but he was undoubtedly massively talented and we wouldn't be here having this discussion now if it wasn't for his work.

his passing did inspire me to watch Alien and Aliens last night while painting...
i was amazed at how well the first movie holds up after 35 years...
the sets and models build for that first movie are still quality...

looking forward to these minis hitting retail...
it's been a long time since there were good Colonial Marine minis on the market, like almost 30 years since the old metal box set was on the market...

cheers

Warzone Resurrection is going FULL RETAIL!
As many will know Warzone Resurrection was a successful Kickstarter in 2013. Since then Prodos Games has been working away, designing rules, manufacturing models, producing packaging and working with avenues to market.

We are now on the cusp of going ‘full retail’!

Feedback
We have always wanted to be a reactive company, we try and respond to all the discussions on our forums and Facebook pages. Since our launch we have received a lot of feedback on our models. In the main, people have been very pleased with the level of detail, design and variability of the Warzone Resurrection range. As a new company, we are learning all the time and our sculpting team has evolved and progressed.

At this point in time key feedback we have gathered is our customers want the following:
• Dynamic poses
• Ease of construction
• Variability
• Durability
• Customisable
• Models that reflect the rules and fluff
• Consistent scaling
• Intricate detail

The last three points have been covered since our inception and due to our use of Procast resin it is easy to cut and kit bash models and repose using hot water. We have taken the first four points on board when designing new models. Our most recent releases, such as the Blood Berets, the Trenchers, the Greyhound and the Dragon Riders are not only beautiful sculpts but durable and transportable gaming pieces.

Moving forward
The great thing about the 3D sculpting and manufacturing processes Prodos Games uses are that it is very easy to fix a problem. If we need to tweak a break point so it does not break we can, if we want to repose a model so instead of just standing it is running or hiding we can. If we have to repose so a model can be manufactured on a commercial scale it is doable and when feedback tells us that a model has too many parts we can redesign so it is easier for the modeller to put together.

As such, after nearly two years in some cases, we are revisiting a number of our original sculpts and tweaking them in some cases, redesigning in others. The version 1 models will always stand proudly, shoulder to shoulder with their new version 2 counterparts, will always be playable and, in my case, form a core part of my personal collection.

Version 2 poses for the Capitol Heavy troopers. Responding to feedback, Prodos Games has additionally significantly reduced the number of parts per model. Doing this reduces work for the modeller and allows 5 diverse poses.

In conclusion
A number of squads have been tweaked or redesigned to ensure they meet the key wants of our customers, namely dynamism and intricate details, durability and ease of construction.

The following starter sets will include Version 2 models stated, with immediate effect:

• Cybertronic (Dr. Diana, Chasseurs)
• Brotherhood (Inquistors, Troopers and Judicator).
• Bauhaus (Hussars, Vulcan) (coming soon)

As well as these the following sets will move to Version 2 with immediate effect:
• Heavy Troopers (available at shop.warzonegame.com)
• Blessed Vestal Laura (available at shop.warzonegame.com)
• Etoiles Mortant (available at shop.warzonegame.com)
• Sacred Warriors ((available at shop.warzonegame.com))
• Valkyries (available at shop.warzonegame.com)
• Free Marines (coming soon)
• Venusian Rangers (coming soon)
• Juggernauts (coming soon)
• Vulcan (coming soon)
• Hussars (coming soon)

Additionally the model contents of the following Retail Starters will vary from the Version 1 Starters with immediate effect:

• Cybertronic will now include 1x Dr. Diana, 10x Chasseurs and 1x Exterminateur ‘Attilla’ Mk1. Walker.
• Brotherhood will include 2x Inquisitors, 10x Troopers and 1x Judicator.
• Dark Legion will include 2x Necromutant Leaders, 10x Undead Legionnaires and 1x Razide

Not that helpful, I'm complaining about the mixing of two very different games.

Imagine if we had only one Gw thread? and you had to filter your 40k from your WFB.

These games are sufficiently different to warrant different threads.
We already have an AVP thread so If BDJV Could just post the AVP news in there and make this your warzone tread.
Unless you feel that you must have the OP so that you can update the title... in which case make a new thread.

As is I'm about to unsubscribe from this mess and miss out on all AVP Prodos news because the prodos news thread is chore to filter through for the game I'm interested in.
