It has been ages since I've played Warhammer 40K, over 15 years long. I finally had time clean up a section of the house and create a painting station again so I started to break out my old armies. I need to do quite a bit of touch up on them. I do want to either bring my army back up to snuff or completely start over from scratch. I'm still piecing them together as I know I had 1500 point army but sold some pieces. I think I left me with 1k. So far I've found some of my

Warp Spiders
Swooping Hawks
Harlequins
Eldar Jetbike
Jain Zar

I don't know how any of these play anymore as I understand some new rules came out recently. Are any of what I have still good? Is it worth it for me to keep and modify what I have or just start a new army over?

Welcome back!

As for the eldar piece of it, all those models are good and work quite well.

Warp spiders are still fast attack and they do very good close range shooting (just like in 3rd ed).

Hawks drop a template that's good at taking out light armoured scrubs, and their shooting is med range light strength for killing xenos and humans.

Harlequins can't take jetbikes anymore and are on foot only, and they still wreak in CC but they die faster to shooting if you don't get their special power off.

Jetbikes are still great.

Jain zar isn't bad in CC but not the best Hq in the codex.

So with the models you have I would say take,

Hq-Jain zar-goes with harlequins to either split off and charge a unit herself, or stay with them and delete the unit yo charge

Hq-farseer-supports the unit while staying safe with harlequins and casting guide/other powers.

Troops-jetbikes *2-these guys stay in reserves till late game for objective grabbing

Elites-harlequins-for these guys take ALL upgrades though death jester is up to you-jainzar and farseer go here

Fast-hawks-come out of deep strike dropping large blast and then finishing off their target

Fast-spiders-these guys hop around shooting anything that is dangerous

Great. Thank you! That gives me a good starting point of information to go through. I actually do think I have a Farseer left as well. I'll start organize out my miniatures again. Providing I don't get distracted. I usually end up finding other miniatures like old Battle Droids, Battletech, Robotech, etc. LOL!

My Codex is probably completely out outdated, not sure if its 1st or 2nd edition. I've heard mixed reviews on the newer Codex, do you think I should pick that up as well?

The most recent codex is generally seen as one of the top two codexes currently available - a good chunk of units are viable, and many are over-powered or under-costed. See if you can borrow a copy off a friend or preview one at a FLGS - hopefully with someone on-hand to explain.

Currently the models you have wouldn't make an army due to not having enough Troops (basic unit type - Eldar get Jetbikes, Guardians, Dire Avengers and Rangers) but the new edition of the main rulebook will introduce a type of list called "Unbound", which removes the Troop requirement. The rulebook will be out in just over a week, so hold off on buying a rulebook until then.

Defenitly pick up the new eldar codex, the 2nd ed one expired a while ago. And also pm when you find most of your models, I can help you build some fun/competitive lists without all the "more serpents and wraith knights" (you will understand this if you ask anyone "is a wave serpent any good?").

I ran a decently successful Eldar list with no tanks the other night so you dont need serpent spam. Sometimes its better to surprise your opponent with an uncommon list that they are clearly not expecting such as guardian squads with star cannons.

I definitely like to play unconventional mixes. It depends on who I am playing with though. Some players are really competitive while others are all about trying new things and having fun. I tend to like the underdog though.

It looks like I started to switch from Eldar to Dark Eldar as I'm finding though. I did find some Eldar Striking Scorpions, Beastmaster, Maugan Ra and Dire Avengers.

Deldar work well, AT from eldar and AMC from dark eldar, plus it looks cool.

Ok have been going through my sets, figuring out what I have and starting painting and assembling again since most of them are still on sprues. Here is a list of what I found so far:

Eldar
1x Phoenix Lord Maugan Ra
1x Phoenix Lord Jain Zar
2x Farseer
3x Warlock w/ Witchblade
2x Warlock w/ Singing Spear
5x Wraithguard
5x Dire Avengers
6x Striking Scorpians
6x Harlequin
6x Howling Banshees
2x Warp Spider Exarchs
10x Warp Spiders
5x Swooping Hawks
3x Guardian Squads (24) w/ platforms (2)
3x Jetbike
3x Vyper Jetbike
4x Wave Serpents

Dark Eldar
1x Packmaster w/ Warpbeast
5x Eldar Incubus
2x Eldar Icubus w/ Assault Weapons
1x Ravager

Also found a bunch of Space Marines, tactical squad, assault squad and a couple rhinos. Ended up getting Dark Vengeance and Space Hulk 4th Edition as well. But that is about what I have. They need to be cleaned up and I have to start painting again, only half the Eldar got painted.

You've got a pretty respectable list going there for your Eldar!
I've tried to write you a little sample list using as many of the models you have as possible and still remaining pretty good. It won't be powerplayer spam but it'll be fun and balanced.

It's a single detachment with 5 troop choices, and lots of fast moving stuff. Your Serpents will be your anti-air, it could just use a little bit more anti-tank as the only thing really effective for that is the Wraithguard with Spiritseer (use a Farseer model), which is why I've also put the Lances in the guardian squad. If you wanted to optimise it a bit more I'd drop the hawks and have 2 6-man Spider squads.

The big Guardian squad takes a Warlock and the Farseer goes with the Avengers (paint up your 4 extra Guardians like Dire Avengers ) The rest of the Warlocks either hide behind the Guardian squad or jump in it's transport when the game starts.

HQ
-Farseer with Singing Spear (105)
-Spiritseer (70)
-5 Warlocks with 2 Singing Spears (185)

Troops
-5 Wraithguard (160)
-Wave Serpent with Shuriken Cannon and TL Scatter Laser (130)
-9 Dire Avengers (117)
-Wave Serpent with Shuriken Cannon and TL Scatter Laser (130)
-3 Jetbikes with Suriken cannon (61)
-20 Guardians with 2 Bright Lances (220)
-Wave Serpent with Shuriken Cannon and TL Scatter Laser (130)

Elite
-6 Striking Scorpions (102)
-Wave Serpent with Shuriken Cannon and TL Scatter Laser (130)

Fast Attack
-3 Vypers with 3 Shuriken cannons (180)
-10 Warp Spiders with Exarch (200)
-5 Swooping Hawks (80)

2000 points on the nose!
