Here are some pics of the Space Wolves army I am currently building using a heavy amount of bits from the dwarf Ironbreaker kit.

i love it can't wait to see them painted. dwarves and space wolves do share a lot of visual similarity's. basically because of there shared viking/ Celtic imagery backround

Yeah. I am definitely going more for the Viking theme than to make Squats or Space Dwarves.

That is bloody awesome. I might have to steal this idea and build a squad of these myself.

Any advice on how to do that ?

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

I wanted to make the "Aren't you a little short for a space marine" joke but alas it was not to be. Great idea though... I might have to pinch it!

Hmmmm, I'm not sure.

Something seems "off" about these, it is the incredibly distinctive Dwarf heads being on a taller body. It's simply something I cannot unsee. Great conversions, where hopefully this little "does not compute" part gets fixed in the painting.

After looking at the pics some more, one way to remedy this is to make a more prominent (or one in the first place, as it looks like there isn't one on some of them) neck joint. Right now, we have a (no pun intended) Squat looking head sitting on a SM body with what appears to be no neck in between. This is especially prominent on the dude with the big axe and shield.

Point taken. You are right. A few poses are lacking a sufficient neck. On a lot of them I tried to make the head lift a little off the shoulders by putting some putty under them.

The low neck appearance is also exaggerated by the really long beards too, as I feel most of them have appropriate necks. No less than a standard marine.

So, after a year and a half hiatus, I am finally planning to dust these off out of the garage and get back to work with them.

I hit a mental roadblock when I tried to craft up some Razorbacks for them, and just couldn't make them dwarfy / viking enough.

I suppose that I am just going to stick with footsloggers and focus on the Grey Hunter units, Long Fangs, and HQ.

6 units of Grey Hunter, 2 units of Long Fangs, and a Rune Priest and Wolf Lord might just be enough. I might try to do a viking style Thunderwolf unit.....but I doubt it.

to make a vehicle more viking esque, Could you greenstuff runes onto them? use bits from Dwarve warmachines for emblems and such? Change the exhausts to look more 'steam' driven, perhaps? Or, where the headlights are on the rhino...remove those, and install S-Curved dragon necks and heads, almost like a vikin ship's figurehead?

Love these. As someone who started with the Wolves back in 2nd and became really disilussioned with the Wolfy McWolferson direction they took these are just fantastic!

I changed out the top exhaust ports to look more dwarven, and used various bits to add some style to it, but I just wasn't as sold on it as I was the look and feel of the troops for some reason. I'll try to post a pic soon.

That's what I need. Something that looks like the StormWolf, but a flying Longboat!

Please do a viking Stormwolf! Just do it! Buy a cheap model boat, add Land Speeder engines to the back, Storm Shields to the side and you're set!

Hey man. Just joined this forum(which i have been following for years now and dont know why i was not a member.). So i saw your Viking wolves and joined up to tell you i have been trying to make my wolves more viking than the feral look they have. Great kit bashing with the latest dwarves, gets the whole viking like closed helm across. I will start making my minis soon, maybe in a months time or more. But great inspiration here. Cheers!

Good luck to you buddy. I should have done a write-up of how I made minor modifications to the heads to get them to fit on the marine torsos.

You end up having to shave off a good amount of the underside of the beard, and sometimes smooth down part of the Marine Torso depending on the decoration they have on there. Also, you will need to make a neck, dwarves have no neck. I used green stuff to roll tiny balls and use that as the neck for the heads.

Really nice, I really like what you've done here. Even though you say Space Wolves I honestly feel like these guys are their own chapter with their own deal going on
As far as the razorback goes, if you stick shields along the sides in a line and find a way to mount some raised serpent heads to the plating over the treads on both sides,
Spoiler:

all you'd have to do is accessorise from there (further attachment of viking icons/trophies) you'd be set
-Edit-
Wolf heads could work too if serpents aren't your thing.
