Try this again - new to the board and screwed up the 1st posting. Sorry. New to 40k for a year now. This is my first model I'm going to enter into our local hoppy shop contest. Retiring from the Army after 29 years and need a few more hobbies -I suck at golf? Been painting my whole life, this is what really attracted me to the game. Don't even ask how the gaming is going.... I think I'm three wins and probably 100 loses.
Used several techniques for this model:
Base is a fluid acrylic style
Background is spray paint art I've been doing years
Model is airbrushed
Shields are painted using a water
marble technique
The blood took me the longest. Used X27 with fishing line and every drop individually highlighted.
My two objectives in this painting were to show action and depth.
Hope you guys like it. Glad to be a new member. I love looking at all these awesome models on the forum.

I feel like the base is lacking in the blood department. I mean its standard knowledge that orks have over 700 gallons of blood in them and I just dont feel this does that fact justice....
Fantastic work and welcome to dakka!

Looks like this thing has just hacked it's way through half the horde. Loving the blood effects, well executed!
Often people tend to make their blood too stringy or without giving consideration as to where and how the blood would splatter but I'm happy to say you've nailed it.
I'm also a big fan of the gems and the visor

All those different techniques work really well together as a unified whole. It's spectacularly gory! One of the most characterful Wraith Knights I've had the pleasure of seeing.
Grrat work, please post more and welcome to Dakka!

That, sir, is a frankly insane quantity of blood. Sooo much blood... It's like if Tarantino made dioramas...
Love it!
I'm interested in exactly how you did the metal for the blade and the shimmershield - metallic airbrushing?

Thanks for all the positive comments. Majendie, yes blade and shield are airbrushed using the Vallejo Liquid Gold Red, Gold, and Silver. I've seen several comments online saying it's too difficult to use these paints in an airbrush..... I found it to be the complete opposite. I love how this paint shoots through my airbrushes. Just make sure no water comes in contact with these paints. My next model I have planned to paint will be mostly the Vallejo Liquid Gold series.

That water marble is amazing. The only experience I have with the technique comes from making paper in middle school art class. Any tips on how you got such awesome results on this model?

That's amazing! The blood effects are extremely striking, and I've never seen anything like that visor and the gems! You've GOT to post a tutorial on how you painted the gems!
Ah-hem. OK, I'll stop using exclamation marks now. But I stand by my tutorial request.

That is flipping stunning work! I've seen some pretty spiffy paintwork on Wraithknights since they came out, but this takes the cake. It's just EPIC. 10/10

My first reaction was a remark that I am unable to write as this is a family friendly forum. This was promptly followed by disbelief that this Wraithknight was your first forray into Wh40K minis.
While blood and gore are not the first things that come to mind for Eldar you not only made it work but you owned it. On a seperate note was this at all inspired by Evangelion? Your model reminds me of a Berserk Eva unit.

Best Wraithknight I've ever seen. Amazing work!
Do you paint just Eldar or other armies as well? Do you have other techniques that you haven't used on this model? The blood and the gems are incredible.

The text on the edge of the base lets it down a little. I think you would be better off without it.
Love the marbling on the armour, and the blood spray on the sword is very nicely done.

I agree with a few of these guys - this is the absolute best Wraithknight I have ever laid eyes on. So many different paint techniques and you mastered everyone of them! The blood is the best I have ever seen hands-down! I've never seen anyone put a painting on the background as you did - brilliant! I think this could easily compete for a Golden Demon! Outstanding!
