Hi guys,
ran a similar list the other day playing a few maelstrom of war missions and it worked excellently so i thought i would tweak it and share it with the rest of you. The only thing I have changed is dropped a flyrant for a prime and 2 zoanthropes for more backfield defense and AV14 offense. I want to get venmonthropes in there somewhere but i just cant spare the points and most people just gun them down with ignores cover anyway. I love the skyblight swarm this edition, it gives you the board coverage and speed you need in order to secure those objectives when you need them:
HQ (380pts)
- Hive Tyrant (skyblight swarm)
Hive Commander, 2x Twin-linked Devourer with Brainleech Worms, Wings
- Tyranid Prime
Devourer, Rending Claws
Elites (200pts)
- 2x Zoanthrope
- 2x Zoanthrope
Troops (315pts)
- 30x Fleshborer Termagaunt
- Tervigon
Fast Attack (605pts)
- 10x Gargoyle (skyblight swarm)
- 10x Gargoyle (skyblight swarm)
- 10x Gargoyle (skyblight swarm)
- Harpy (skyblight swarm)
- Harpy (skyblight swarm)
- Hive Crone (skyblight swarm)
I think nids are going to have to play really smart this edition in order to remain a feasible army but IMO I think boots/claws on the ground is a solid starting point. Flyer spam, Titan spam and daemon factories are going to be a problem for everyone and I cannot see a way for nids to get past this without just spamming something of there own (flyrants/crones). Let me know what you think of the list, general tactics for it are keep the termagaunts in the backfield with the prime, go balls to the wall with everything else.
THANKS FOR LOOKING!

I'd rather have two Winged Tyrants than a Prime, but points is points. I would Outflank the Tervigon, most every chance I got. I habitually put a Thorax Hive on her though.
I also like to put Spine Salvo (?) on the Harpies for some extra AA shooting. I would probibly pay for all that by dropping a Brood of Zoeys, painful though that may be.

I'd drop prime for Deathleaper and 1 Zoey for a Venomthrope but otherwise I like the list

Just to point out that I am in no way means knocking Jack but It is just so sad how common Skyblight lists are now, probably 90% of the nid players take them and are all the same.
my list is almost exactly the same as this bar a few changes!
Hive Tyrant - Devourers, Electroshock grubs Hive Commander
Hive Tyrant - Devourers, Electroshock grubs
Devilgants x 30
Tervigon - Electroshock grubs
Zoanthrope x 2
Zoanthrope x 1
venomthrope x1
Crone
Harpy
Harpy
Gargoyles x 10
Gargoyles x 10
Gargoyles x 10
Think thats 1745pts of the top of my head.
I'm very much into nids at the moment, but the lack of 'oomf" is very upsetting. Especially as there really doesn't seem like an alternative method.
Maybe GW will see their mistake codex and release another?
That'd make myself and a lot of other guys and girls very happy

Looks good. Though I'd run the Big Brood of Termigants as 20x vanilla, 10 Devils. That saves a boatload of points you can spend elsewhere.

wow thanks for the feedback guys I'm in such a good nids mood at the minute, a new codex release would be damn sweet but I bloody hope we get a point reduction on our gargantuan creatures so we can at least compete with the other titans out there!
I know skyblight is being taken a lot recently but to be honest from a purely competitive aspect having 3 broods of objective securing fast units that when die have a 50% chance of coming back and when out of synapse g2g anyway is the best we have.
A massive group of devilgaunts is a huge point sink, I guess all they do is add to target priority and force more mistakes but its still a lot of points as one blob.
what is the deal with haywire nids now? I can understand it on the outflanking tervi but on a flyrant? grounding is now not so much of an issue, so it will depend on your meta, but why you are giving up a devourer to template some vehicles when you have bs4 and re rolling, mathematically against a knight with ion shield on side armour you are getting 0.89 glances with devourers compared to 0.41 glances with grubs which is more than double your chance (to do nothing)...although I can see AV13+ being a big player this edition so I can see where you are coming from! sweet 1750pt list I will post my own up after this!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Here is my take on a 1750pt list.
HQ (480pts)
- Flyrant 2x devs + hive commander
- Flyrant 2x devs
Elites
- Venomthrope
- 2x Zoanthrope
- 2x Zoanthrope
Troops (330pts)
- 30x Fleshborer Termagant
- Tervigon Cluster Spines, Electroshock Grubs.
Fast Attack (695pts)
- 10x Gargoyle
- 20x Gargoyle
- 10x Gargoyle
- Harpy, Stinger Salvo, Twin-linked Heavy Venomcannon.
- Harpy, Stinger Salvo, Twin-linked Heavy Venomcannon
- Hive Crone
Have now convinced myself that AV13+ is a major problem so upped the output of the harpies. all in all pretty happy with this list at 1750, I think if I wanted to get it to 1850 I would chuck another flyrant in there.

Haywire that ignores cover is great. Especially if you have 2 or 3 templates hitting one thing- it's pretty much a guaranteed wreck for anything with 3hp or less.
Plus I like having a s5 template, if you're up against another horde, it's very useful.
Ditto on the possitive vibes on nids at the moment, I'd love some sort of supplement to come out. Bring back malantai and ymargl stealers!
Give us new physic powers too and let us compete on the ground as well as in the sky
How come you went for venom canons on the harpie? Ap4 makes them pretty much useless...

I figured the Venom cannons on the harpies give me more opportunities to take down higher armoured vehicles from a distance allowing for a more coverage over the battlefield should I need to drop down and claim an objective in the middle of nowhere. Plus I honestly do not think my Zoey's will do anything except die when they get near high AV targets as your enemy is just going to pool all his dispel dice into denying that warp blast. I can see where you are coming from with the grubs and im guessing with orks on the way then those D6 hits on the unit inside of an open topped vehicle are going to be a lot of fun as well.

Yeah...what they said.
I am currently thinking that Gargoyles are "better" if they have Toxic. it costs an extra 20 per Brood base cost, but nowadays Blind requires a Wound to take a roll. And it is on a unit that can come back... So for the same points...you could leave the Gargoyles at x10, and add Toxin sacks. You might give it a try and see...

For me its always going to be boots on the ground, plus im pretty sure toxin sacs would be redundant on gargoyles if you were going for blind attacks because they get poison with that?

I actually prefer HVCs on the Harpies. It carves light vehicles up pretty quickly so I don't have to waste shots from anything I have to kill heavy vehicles on smaller stuff. I can see it go either way, though, depending on the local meta.
