Due to our groups various and busy schedules, unfinished Jade Vessel and me needing time to finish stuff, the start of the campaign is still at least six weeks away.

I have the results of the last chamber: You are a horrible person.

They look great! This stuff is going to be amazing. The pictures are a bit on the bright side though, making it hard to make out the details of the Iron Bears, what parts did you use to make them?

I had to up the light levels of the pictures because the originals were too dark. I need to take better lighted pictures when I have managed to paint them.

Most of the parts are from the two SM scout boxes. The heads are mostly from IG cadians. Some random bits from my bits box. And green stuff, of course.

You might want to check out this thread over at Warseer for Genestealer Hybrids, especially his latest stuff (as you can see here) is looking really interesting!

Yes, that is interesting thread. I see he uses the same "ghoul head with gs skull extension" as I am using. Great minds work alike and all that, eh?

Thanks for the link!

C'mon folks!!!

Hammer's posted loads of cool conversions and he gets what, one reply??? What's up with dakka these days? Isn't this exactly the kind of blogs so many of you enjoy following?

I think more replies will come in once there are better quality pictures of those Iron Bears. Right now they look really cool but it's kind of hard to make out what parts are exactly used. I really like those helmets (what are they?) not so sure about the hats for the sniper and the scout, those helmets are just too cool!

As for the room, I'm really liking it, will there be corridors and such as well?

I like the helmets too: they are just cadian helmets with detail shaven off and kroot shoulderpad added as faceshield. It will be clearer once I paint the faceshields (I hope).

I did the hats because I wanted some change in the looks. A lucky cowboy hat for the scout and I tried to give the sniper some "force recon sniper" look with the hat. Those are details that are fun to do.

The room is an example of the terrain I'm building. I have constructed 7 rooms now and aim for 8. Each room has it's own theme. The room shown is "security room". I need to add a security console near one wall. When the room is finished you will see why it's called security room.
Other themes include "lab", "cognitator room", "lift", "stairs", "monorail", "generator" and "airlock/decontamination".
I will add other rooms if/when I get ideas for more themes...
In addition to the rooms, I will paint several GWs 8"x8" movement trays as corridor floors. The rooms will function as their walls because I will leave the corridors flat (storage/transport reasons I won't add walls to the corridors).

Since each room and corridor section is separate, I can arrange them in various different configurations. There are various ways in and out of the complex: lift, monorail corridor, stairs leading upstairs, airlock and even a breached air vent. So the brood will have many routes from which to attack the happles team from!

Holy cr*p, how could I have missed this stuff! this is freakin awesome Hammer! And I´m glad to see that the kroot frame is seeing more widespread use with you guys as well.

Excellent troopers, very individual yet clearly part of the same team. My favorites so far are the sniper and the scout.

Excellent job!

I think the sniper is definately my favorite. That evokes great memories of when my Cousin got me down to a range in Winsconsin to fire a Barrett M107. Your conversion really is gorgeous. The scale of everything fits perfectly. I'm going to have to get my hands on this Kroot Frame.

Awesome work. Keep it up,

Oh...my...god... (understatement of the century)

1) I want Imperial Guard like that! Those Iron Bears look amazing, you should do a tutorial on them or something. It wouldn't surprise me if we will see more people building those guys!

2) With what we can see of the Genestealer cultists so far is that they are probably some of the best models in that "genre" and look most convincing (probably even more so than the original models). Most people who convert Genestealer cultists simply add Genestealer heads and arms to Cadian or Catachan models and leave it at that. You on the other hand try to create true hybrids. I do advice you on trying to either get a bunch of bigger human bodies or smaller tyranid arms/claws. They look a tiny bit out of proportion.

Awesome,

would love to see some more individual close-ups of the bears, those guys look pretty mean...

hybrids are great, not sure about the size of their rending claws, maybe they look a little too big?

The stick guy is the Genestealer Magos I believe, but he was still quite wip, so Hammer can share the finished sculpt later.

Will do as soon as we get them from our rules guy, Sickbunny. He's been tooting his horn about them for 3 years, but alas we are yet to see them due to a collection of excuses, mostly related to written level of finish Believe me, he's sharing them soon and then we test them out and fine tune a little and share everything.

Well, probably some of the best cultists/ stealers Ive seen around so far. Truly impressive work on those.

I already said it in Migs´ thread.... I love those Iron Bear guys. I love the "special forces" feel these guys got going and I enjoy the "cluttered" look. Cant ever have too much equipment. Very well done.

Thanks everyone for your comments! And thanks Migs for taking those pics!

Some of the points from the posts (in no particular order):

- The stealer claws: Yes, I know that they are a bit too large for the hybrid bodies. I shaved the arms a bit thinner, but I couldn't do anything for those claws. I figured that with the GWs oversized style in weapons, these could still pass too.

- The rose staff belongs to the 4th generation Magus. I've been itching to use that staff in some conversion, so the magus got it.

- The death jester conversion is one of the civilians the Bears are protecting: an eldar attache for the trading house. Since one of the players will be fielding an eldar retinue in the campaign, I figured one of the civilians needed to be eldar for some connection to the story. The figure is still WIP, so I haven't posted any pics of it yet.

- Yes, the Bears would make a nice Imperial Guard army. I might even expand this skirmish force into proper 40K army depending on the new IG codex and how the IG rules about stormtroopers and/or heavily armoured IG troopers work. I'm sure the new plastic stormtroopers sprue and Valk kit will be the needed kick to push me into making this happen...

Over sized weapons and limbs overall, so I think they are totally fine!
