E.g. two of the three platoons and the valks make the roll. Third platoon must be left in reserve (including the squad that was embarked). Then no rules are broken.

I'd prefer a more elegant solution, one that was already suggested here. As the situation is extraordinary to begin with we might as well house rule it a bit. I really can't agree with suddenly disembarking a reserve unit when we already declared it embarked, you see. Disregarding the embarked units of the platoons solves this problem.

I'd roll the platoons and the Valkyries separately but have the passengers count as part of the Valk squadron in the interest of smooth gameplay.

Or roll for the valk/platoon. If you get the platoon on (because it is a single roll), then you know all of the platoon members must come on. Now, roll for the valks. If you get them on, great. They are embarked and they all arrive together. If you do not get the valks (I'm just talking about 1 infantry squad, 3 valks here, to keep it simple), then the platoon must arrive from reserves outside of their transports.

I agree completely, that's how I'd play it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I can't really find a good quote from the main rules that say you can embark units in reserves so if anyone can direct me in the right direction (page number maybe?) that would be great.

Assuming that you could though, from what I have read, I agree with what Spetulhu said, because the rules clearly state
"...the unit and the transport will be rolled for together and arrive together."
This indicates to me that the unit simply merges with the transport for the purpous of deployment.

On a more fluff based basis, it could be assumed that the overall comander has simply attached one Valkyrie/Vendetta to each platoon and the Valkyries/Vendettas are flying in a squadron. Because only one lucky squad(or [i]unlucky[i] as the case may be) gets to travle with the Valks the squad is simply detached from the platoon temporarily until the either the battle ends, the valk or the unit is destroyed or the overall comander changes his mind.

Only of life was more linear, then it would be more straight forward

The last page of this thread (page 2) contains references to the page number in the rulebook where this rule is located as well as a post of the actual rules text in question.

obviously, if you try this you (as the player) suffer a perils of the warp attack and take a wound. since most gamers themselves have LD5, slow and purposeful without relentess, 1 wound, and have no armor save, you would be removed from the FLGS.

p.s. i actually answered the question in the new yakface poll.
