Exactly. Couldn't have said it better myself. Those paintjobs are criminally bad if you paid even a couple of dollars for them. I could do better and I'm far from an ace painter. Honestly you should get some kind of refund or send them back for a touch-up.

And by touch-up, I mean strip job and new coat of paint.

Ive shat things that are more passable for tabletop quality than that. I feel bad for you man... This is yet another reason why I paint my own figs (though everyone has their reasons, I dont mind ).

I could be wrong, but I swear I just had a banner advertisement for Blue Table on the upper right of my screen. Ive been refreshing the page for like 10 min now and cant seem to get it back up.

Personally I feel that after this they should be removed from advertisement from Dakka. Agree?

Even though the pictures are pretty obvious, i still think we should hear their side of story before removing anything ><

I can see your argument, but I cant think of any excuse for trying to pass off that kind of shoddy paintwork as "TableTop Quality." I mean, how hard would it have been to say Hey! We need another week cause we are behind schedule sorry for any inconvience this may or may not cause you.

In any exchange of services, the offeror must make a firm and definite expression in which the terms of the sale are explicit. In other words, there must be a relevant "meeting of the minds" on which the contract is based.

As far as I know, and based on statements made by you, many of the miniatures you submitted were supposed to be the "level 2" desigation. Under this level I see no breach as the website clearly expresses what is done at the lv.2 standard. The breach arises when we look at the higher levels of performance supposedly required with the elevation of the price.

With the higher payments due for the miniatures at the higher level, the painting service has made EXPRESS terms specifically stating what the miniatures WILL LIKELY look like. It is reasonable to assume that any miniatures done at this enhanced fee which DO NOT meet the painting standards implied in the contract constitute a PARTIAL BREACH OF PERFORMANCE under the terms agreed to by the buyer (you).

Professionalism has nothing to do with making consumers aware of FRAUD perpetrated by a business within our beloved community. You did the right thing by posting the shoddy work of the service.

By the way, your painting is much better.

If it were me, I would demand a refund (at least a refund for the "higher level" painting which was not done). Just a thought....

(Disclaimer: This is only my opinion and is not meant to be legal advice of any kind, reader is so advised.)

Umm you lost me on the level 2 service part, all the nids i sent in (the zoonthrope, carnifex, and tyrant) would at minimum be level 3 and the tyrant 4.

Yeah, thats what I was saying:

"With the higher payments due for the miniatures at the higher level, the painting service has made express terms stating what the miniatures will likely look like."

As you said, the price you paid for the tyrant was around $65, $20 more than the actual cost of the model itself. This price was obviously not for the "level 2" standard, which is what I was suggesting.

Dont worry, we are in agreement here :-)

I remember the Tau scenery they created for a guy that did a straight swap for his Armourcast Eldar Titan, it was dreadful scenery and created a really nasty flamewar against Bluetablepainting on youtube. The guy was called Nakatuke or somesuch I think, he wasn't impressed but they reached a resolution.

Given that and your trade agreement, it would appear less care and attention are afforded 'swaps' like this by Shawn and crew, shame cos his company produces some AMAZING nids, go to youtube and take a look at the Lava nids, the Salsa Nids, the Toxic/Swamp Nids etc, really nice armies and very well done.

I think due to no cash being paid, your army was not given the due care and attention it deserved and most likely given to a new member of the team to create or rushed to be completed.

Shawn should be allowed to step in here or pm you and offer to make this better, it reflects poorly on a guy and his company that I personally really like.

This is, I believe, a good company capable of far better and they've sold themselves (and you) short with this.

This is Shawn with Blue Table Painting.

For those not familiar with our company, here are a few links:
http://www.bluetablepainting.com
http://www.youtube.com/bluetablepainting (youtube channel)
http://www.bluetablepainting.blogspot.com (blog)

In the interest of completeness and fairness, (and by way of public apology) I would just like to point out a few things:

1) Nick contacted me the day before he made this post. I immediately offered him a full and unconditional refund. So people saying "Dude, you should get your money back" are one step behind as that was already offered.
2) We were sent a single Hormagaunt as a guide for matching. Often, we have clients who want their models to fit with an existing army, so we get them as close as possible. These particular models got to us already primed black (not our normal starting point for Tyranids). This is a catch-22 for a project of this type: if we paint them like the models on our website, will the client come back and say they should have matched the sample more closely? I think this is a fundamental disconnect here.
3) The pictures being presented for review blow up a one inch arm to twelve inches. And only focus in on errors, not the models as a whole. It's an unfair degree of magnification.
4) I have to concede one point: there are slops on the green muscle-splits. I noticed this when the artist brought them in and asked that they be cleaned up. Obviously this did not happen and they got into digital photography. This is my responsibility as Quality Control. I had conceded this point with the client before this forum-post was posted. And now that I look at it, the eyes are slopped, which is not right. So I apologize on that count.
5) The day before this post was made Nick emailed me and said that he would not badmouth another company in public. The name of my company is in the first line of this forum post.
6) I'd also like to point out that Blue Table Painting has done nearly 3000 projects to date. I have complaints of this nature in well under one project in 100. This is an imperfect science. I do my best to be responsive and make my clients happy. It's not as easy as you might think. I always follow up. There is a good reason I'm in business after all these years.

If you do as many projects as we do, it's almost inevitable that there will be some slip-ups.

I don't get in arguments with clients. I simply ask them what they want done. If there is a problem I can give a refund or make corrections. Since Nick has made this issue public, I say "Nick, what do you want me to do?"

Someone brought up the Tau project. This is similar to that in this way: I offered (and gave) a full and unconditional refund (in cash) to that guy, too, within a day after he complained to me personally. Following day: complaining publicly.

Let me be clear about my tone. It is conciliatory. I am not railing or arguing. My hands are open.

Hi Shawn,

Again, and I repeat, I am not badmouthing you or your company, I just wanted an opinion on the work done and if it was done to your companies normal standards. I try no to slander (though alot of posters were less then kind with comments).

I think my main reason for this post was to show what kind of paint jobs people can expect.

For the record, I had the impression you didnt want to repaint the items and thought I was too demanding on the quality, I appologize if that was my mistake.

If you want to redo the nids, thats fair Shawn, but if its just to clean up the green and eyes i can easily do that myself. I think for the cost involved they would best be done by new paint jobs, but thats ok, ill build upon and fix whats been done.

Interesting dilemma.

First off I have to say that whoever painted those models does not need his days salary. PERIOD. Words cannot describe how angry I would be.

Skipping the nonsense, I would also like to say that I am a pretty big fan of blue table. I know them by name and video only, as I tend to covet
the precious. Among the many companies in their relative field, they are the only one I know (and respect) by name. Taking this into account
(as well as the very clearly explained situation) I would say the lens of doom should be lifted.

Now that bluetable's balls (oh man that is funny in so many ways ) are on the table, I do believe the original
poster should let us look at his website if possible. If I am not mistaken the name of his company has not been
revealed. This may seem like a waste of time, but in all honesty, bluetable's ball's are on the table.

Maybe just a grot or twos balls in reality but were here nonetheless.

Nick,

This isn't what people can expect from my company. There are two issues here: 1) I messed up and didn't QC the slops on your army, 2) we painted the models to generally go with the guant you sent.

I have lost a half-night's sleep over this. Additionally, I will probably lose business to the tune of $500 probably more in my estimation. Rival companies will seize on this thread to tear down our work (nevermind the other 2800 projects). I would have appreciated it if this could have been resolved somewhere other than the court of public opinion, where people dogpile on without getting all the facts.

I am willing to repaint the nids from scratch. Send in a sample model to be replicated (ie a hive tyrant if a hive tyrant is to be painted) as well as the ones that we did for you. I will not repaint them-- the base layers are on too thick. Rather, I'll get fresh new models and make duplicates. Alternately, I can just take your general color scheme and work them up how we would do them given our druthers.

Shawn

Yep,

I look foward to the repaint and the love they Tyrant and boys need, I will certainly post the new photos.

One thing I do wonder, did my minis not get what they were supposed to, or is that level typical of BTP jobs and I am just very particular?

He said it was a mistake already. Most work I have seen of blue tables has been really nice.
I also enjoy their videos on you-tube.

Now that this is really a private matter to be resolved by blue table painting and chapterhouse, and a conclusion of sorts has been reached shouldn't the thread be closed?
