The Tau are the Little Commies That Could.

You can't just say "Haha they own orks and nids left and right." Sure they are expanding their borders, but they're still a minor empire. The Damocles Gulf deal proved that they can fight the Imperium, but they certainly aren't equals.

Yeah, Sicarius was raiding and knocking back a chunk of what the tau had taken in the third sphere expansion when he got recalled to do something important The imperium just can't be bothered to waste the time to lay the smack down. Important stuff like nid hive fleets, abaddon, ork waagggghhhh tend to get in the way of beating up little blue commies

If you've checked the 5th editon rulebook timeline there is a battle where the Tau and the space marines allied together to defeat necrons (which they both woke up because they were fighting on a tomb world ;3).

And the blue commies are damn awesome. If you noted that the imperium is always fighting not only enemies like chaos and nids and such but they also deal with internal rebellions, mishaps, etc. Sometimes they even fight themselves thanks to mis-infomation or pure retardness...

Against such a misguded empire the tau can not lose! Here me brothers of the greater good, stand up and embrace the tau!! Remove the shackles of the imperium today and work for the greater good!

Hulksmash, I hate to say this but you need to read the Eldar Codex page 52. profile of Prince Yriel. It speaks of Hive Fleet Kraken attacking the Craftworld and nearly wiping it out before Yriel came with his Armada, took the ancient spear of Twilight from a shrine, and fought his way all they way to the Hive leader/queen (whateva), and killed him. Eldar win, yaaaaaay.

Wow this fight is still going eh? Told ya Imperial fanboyz are crazy and hardcore.
Seriously, yes the full weight of the Imperium would hulksmash the Tau. Theres no argument. But the fact that the entire Imperium isnt just sitting around jaw jacking, means that the Tau could do some damage on the way out. People have to stop bad mouthing them like they are sucky desk jockies, that shoot guns in their spare time, when not talking to trees. They can kick ass.

KingCracker, I love you. Anyway, just thought I should point out the obvious, I find out from terrible personal experiences that Imperial Fanboyz are not only arrogant, but in denial. I have nothing bad against the Imperium in fact on many occasions I've wanted to start my own Tallaran army, but to be honest I found that most people play the Imperium cause they happen to be donkey-cave badasses, and everyone likes to be an donkey-cave every so often, except me, I like being Tau, because they are the good guys of the universe, maybe they are just pissed because the Tau are the real good guys . I feel something strong coming on with the Tau soon, something pretty damn awesome , and why you may ask? Because they already have their own Imperial Armor book.

How is join me or i'll kill you a good guy? That is the joy of 40k. There are no good guys anywhere! They are socialist (not everyone is really equal so they're not commies) extremists like the imperium are facist extermists. They all bad!

Cept Orks, they just like to hit things! Orks are just doing there thing, it's everyone elses fault for getting in their way!

Well, dont know how valid is, but my friend tells me one of the fluff pieces in planetstrike mentions the orks crashing an asteroid/meteor into a Tau city and the book uses the word "billions" to describe the number of lives lost.

Tau were letting him take those worlds, they place no value on land only on lives. By the fluff if the Imperium were to attack a major Tau city they would just evacuate it and bring the buildings down on top of any invaders. The Tau would gladly give up control of half a planet to destroy half the attacking force, once all the humans are dead they just move back in and clean up.

As far as one SM chapter taking on the whole empire no frikking way, my boys in blue would send the Dark angels and 2 million guardsmen packing in no time. However the full weight of the imperium would crush the tau faster than a railgun could knock out a rhino.

So refuse to read codex BT then?

Maybe the new wolfs codex is also non-Tau friendly....

Anyway, I suppose I just want an estimation of how many Firewarriors and what not there are, compared to the Krieg home-world. I mean the the majority of the Krieg army is fighting on Vraks with the Dark Angels, and the complete total population of the planet is only 8 million.

The Krieg Force attacking Vraks was an estimated 9 million, (That is 200,000 men in every Regiment). 9 Million is a large amount of men for one battle that has not been dealt with yet.

Have you ever heard of the Damonculies gulf Crusade it was were the ultramarines 2nd company attacked the tau empire they sent out a request for aid from other chapters by the end it had grown to chapter strength and it almost wiped out the tau only an incursion of the tyranids forced the crusade to stop in witch the tau took advantage of and retook some of the worlds that was lost. Anyway there's a map of the tau empire in the tau codex

Can the tau travel in the warp? If they can't then their empire won't get THAT big.

Tau can only "skip" on the outskirts of the warp. They don't even register.

The Tau Empire isn't that big, but it's growing at an exponential rate. In the Last Chancers book, you'll get a lot of background info from the Tau. That Water Caste character was pretty cool....won't spoil it for you all.

In the Ciaphas Cain omnibus the IG piss off the Tau and you get to see some Crisis Suits in action.

I'd say if given the time, maybe 500 yrs, they're empire will be as big as the Eye of Terror territory wise. That, and most of the aliens hate Terrans and would join the Empire. That's a lot of disparate alien tech vs a stagnant imperial design...

Errr, what fluff? The only large-scale conflict mentioned in the Tau codex was the Damocles Gulf Crusade, which was primarily Tau v. Imperial Navy/Guard, and that was a deadlock after much initial success on the part of the Imperium. And they only left because Hive Fleet Behemoth was discovered.

Aside from Spez Mreen fluff that's mostly Calgar & Co. ripping apart Tau like high school linebackers in a room full of virgin cheerleaders, there's really not much mention of Tau v SM.
