My only issue here is the international shipping is a big chunk of money. Which for people like myself in the UK is a major fact in putting me off getting them. As much as I would love one along with some Imperial Guard foam as well

not much they can do about it, unfortunately. on ebay auction (up until 6 months ago) you could get shipping via ship (no pun intended) that took 2 weeks but was cheaper from the US to europe; now you can't and the price has gone WAY up. i just tried shipping to canada a few days ago and had to ask the winner of my auction to pay more for shipping or get a refund. for the past 10 years of selling my gaming left overs on ebay, shipping to canada has never cost more than 20% more than 1st class within the US. they recently got rid of surface shipping across the border so everything has to go the equivalent of priority and that costs around 3x what the domestic shipping costs.

Thank you Warboss, I just don't understand why people think we set our shipping prices. We go directly from the USPS, UPS, and FedEx. All we do is pick the carrier that is shipping to your address the cheapest.
Take Space Hulk for an example. It costs us $8.25 on average to ship that size box to anywhere in the US. We charge $7.00 for shipping. That means that we actually pay $1.25 of your shipping costs just to help out. That does not include the box (another $.90 cents), and man power to ship it (most of our employees make at least $9.00 per hour.
So when it all comes down to it, you need to blame your shipping service. We do everything we can to help, but some things are out of our hands.

So far from what i've seen from battlefoam i love the company. I've ordered several SD and GW style trays from there and was always happy with the product.I'm really getting anxious to see how awesome the PACK 1520 custom loadout i ordered 6 weeks ago will be.
But for this I wish there was a way to only order the top "model" tray, i really have no interest in a tray for just the cardboard tiles and tokens but meh w/e. I'll still most likely order one once i paint my SH set (using my friends unpainted one in the meantime)

I'm buying these trays as both storage for my game, and kind of a test run to see if the trays are of a higher quality that I might spend this much money to house my 3 (and soon 4) Warmachine armies and very large Ork army.
Sadly, no warmachine/hordes specific trays yet.

@ Diablo, I cant speak for others here but I understand that UPS or FEDex or whoever you use sets your shipping prices, but in my case at least the price they set is prohibitively expensive, I mean for the SHulk foam the cost of shipping is nearly the same as the cost of the foam, which I really cannot justify to myself, i'm sure this is also how others feel. (still a great product though). If its still available around xmas time i'm in florida for two weeks so I might pick up one then... we'll see (can they ship to hotels? )

I got a set of these trays for my Space Hulk game the other day and I have to say I was fairly disappointed. The quality of the foam is nice, as is to be expected, but the fit is not so good. First the sorta good news, the top tray that stores the figures does hold everything, but it is a little bit of work to figure out the right angles and locations for each figure to go in. Using an online picture with all the figures in the tray is a great help with this. Now the bottom tray unfortunately does not hold everything. If you spent a lot of time trying to figure out the optimal placement of all the pieces, it will just barely be too high to quite close, if you leave out the rule books and the large status board. With everything, there is absolutely no way to get it all in the original box and have it close normally. I ended up leaving out the bottom tray and just laying the troop tray on top. This works ok and it is possible to then close the box (barely). I confirmed my findings with 2 other people who have had the same problems.
The other really annoying thing that happened with my bottom tray is that some of the glue used to hold the foam together was stretched across the bottom of the tray in a few spots. I didn't think much of it, as I figured it must be dried. I put my tiles in the bottom tray (before I figured out the bottom tray is not usable) and the glue instantly bonded to the bottom of some of my tiles. Attempts to get it it off by rubbing failed. Perhaps goo gone can help me, but the glue seemed pretty determined.

Ah, that's not so good news...I was kinda hoping everything would actually fit, it was the main reason why I loved the idea of the trays so much: being able to use the actual box everything came in while giving them added protection.

RangerRobAZ - I must say that your situation is a bit odd. By your user id I would say your a local here in Arizona. As you know our shop is right down the street from Empire Games. I would be more then happy to show you how all the pieces fit just fine inside the foam. Mind you that we only have so much room since the box is already pre set by GW. I have yet to have a problem fitting in all the tiles and my upper foam.
A bit of practice loading the lower section should fix your problem. If you would like I can email you pictures of the items all fitting just fine inside the foam. Per GW IP rules we can not post these images on our site. So we include a two page instruction print out with each order so you can figure out the best placement without problems. You'll also find that in our hand out that comes with each tray kit has a very detailed picture of the upper section of the foam showing you again the exact placement of each model. I'm hoping you got this two page hand out when you picked up your trays. If you did not we would be more then happy to send another set out or have you come by our shop and pick it up.
As for the glue on the bottom, you can turn that in for a complete replacement. If you are totally unhappy with your order, please feel free to return it to us or your local game store for a full refund. Again, I don't know if you got it from our website or Empire Games, but by your AZ I would assume your a local.
Looking forward to your reply.
For everyone else, please feel free to email us for full color pictures of the bottom tray and upper tray fully loaded with all the model.
After all its a huge game with loads of pieces and it will take a bit of practice to get them to go in their right place.
Hope that helps.
Looking forward to hearing from you RangerRobAZ

Having finally got around to punching out the tiles and assembling my minis last night, my previous reservations are gone, and as I am in love with the models, I am insanely in need of the foam trays to protect them.
However, as has been said before the shipping to the UK makes this undoable for me. Which means my models will likely remain unpainted as I see no point in painting them up only to have them rattle around the box, or be stored in some other container.
I accept that BF are only passing on the costs they are charged themselves. I have had experience of the cost of shipping from the US to the UK before (which is, for some reason often around twice the cost of shipping in the other direction - those of us who get irritated by the Royal Mail should bear this in mind!). I totally accept (and always did) that BF don't gouge their shipping costs. UPS and the US Mail are much more expensive than their European counterparts.
As BF have contacted UK distributors with no apparent success, maybe it behooves those of us who would like to purchase the stuff over here to contact the distributors as a group and request they get their act together.
Or is there a UK-based retailer that might be able to go it alone and get the stuff direct from BF?
Anyone got the urge to try and gee up a UK (or even European) distributor and indicate the kind of business they could do servicing UK hobbyists?
In fact, to show willing I'll set the ball rolling by emailing Maelstrom and showing them this thread.

There has been some recent irritation amongst us UK-based gamers only being able to get hold of Battlefoam direct from the US - which involves massive shipping charges.

Can I humbly suggest that becoming the UK (or even European) supplier for Battlefoam may be a great addition to your portfolio of products. Looks like they may even be up for an exclusive deal if you are interested as they seem to have had no support from UK retailers hitherto.

As others already stated, I totally understand is not Battlefoam fault the shipping is so high... yet I also hope you understand at Battlefoam that for a client in Europe like myself the Product plus the shipping has to be paid and If the bill is to high we just dont buy at all... Lets not forget that theres even the chance this will be picked at customs and then you can get extra percentage accumulation to the final bill...
A european distributor would do miracles over here since I'm a big fan of your products... yet not filty ritch

I got my battlefoam today. I wouldn't say I "regret" my purchase, per se, but if I could do it over again I do not think I would do so.
The quality of the trays is quite good. The top tray especially works out really well for the minis. I like it a lot.
The bottom tray... eh. They claim everything fits OK, but I think that you're either using a pretty relaxed interpretation of the word "fit" or using some scheme to fit everything in their just so, which is way, way more complicated then it's worth. Either way, the instructions and such don't fit and are going on top.
After getting and using this product, I think a better item would be just selling the top tray for the minis and just putting the board pieces in the bottom loose. Since there are not custom slots for each piece, obviously, you're not losing any protection by doing so, IMO.

Hello everyone,
I must say, for all of us being such good hobbiests we are all having a bear of a time fitting those silly game pieces. So, we have heard your emails and we are now offering just the top foam tray for those who would like to leave their game pieces and smaller bits in the bottom of the box.
The top troop tray can be found on our site under popular space corridor foam kit.
Here is a direct link.
http://battlefoam.com/catalog.php?item=226&catid=66&ret=catalog.php%3Fcategory%3D66
We obviously lowered the price on the single tray to $15.00 since its only one tray. Before you guys say why is it not half off, its because its a whole lot more foam then the tray below. We have a higher cost on the troop tray then on the extra game pieces tray.
Anyway, for the guys that ordered the set, it does all fit. I will do a video for everyone to see that it does fit. It takes a bit of practice but once you do it you'll always fit things.
Thank GW for the box size. We really did our best to make trays with what we had.
Hope this helps.
Thanks
Romeo

Yay for companies listening to the ideas and views of the consumer!!!
On a side note how long does getting a PACK 1520 custom load out list of models provided usually take? I'm a week 6 now and was just curious. I realize it must take several weeks to design and create custom foam trays, i was just curious on a time frame.

We normally do not take more then 4 weeks with even the most complicated designs. Space Hulk has pushed us back a bit, but not this long.

A video showing an ideal packing solution for Space Hulk would be most welcome. Frankly, it's a very close run thing trying to repackage the box without the foam trays even after punching out all the die cut cardboard pieces and dispensing with the frames. Thanks.

To be honest, even if you are not going to paint your models, I think its essential. There's that much fragile bling on the Marine models in particular, that I fear they'd get damaged rattling around with all that heavy cardboard.
Now, I wonder what the overseas shipping is for the single tray!? Automatically Appended Next Post: Damn! $27!

Oh and $25 for trays to hold 30 large, awkward miniatures and all the components is a really good deal (not to mention that this is being made for a limited release product)!
