Understandable Aztral. I've heard all my info from multiple game sites through a Google search, but until the game is released and properly reviewed, your doubts are still pretty plausible. Just don't dismiss it as a WoW knock-off. Let's not forget how warcraft came to be in the first place, and I think THQ will do a far better job than Blizzard ever could.
Sure, there'll probably still be lots of "R U grl? U wnat 2 cyberz wit me?" teenage kids, but that's just the curse of the genre, not the games. As far as Spehzz Mehreenz go, I do know that you won't be able to just start up a Power-Armoured, Bolter-bearing Space Marine character right off the beginning. That's been given a definate solid answer. More likely you'll start out as a Scout and work your way up if you want to play Astartes that bad.
For me, it's going to be all about the Guard though. Anyway, I wouldn't be worried about it being all that bad. THQ knows their stuff, and save for Soulstorm and the Emo element in DoW II, their games have been amazing. Company of Heroes is still my favorite RTS, and will be for quite some time (moreso if they add Soviet and Pacific Campaigns )

Soulstorm was developed by Iron Lore, and THQ only published it. This just makes the future brighter for the 40k MMO.
As for my thoughts - I'm guessing it'll be order vs. disorder, or just 3 factions. Trying to balance more than that would be ludicrous, and, while my inner fluff nut wouldn't enjoy Space Marines, Tau and Eldar fighting together like a big happy family, I prefer it to the alternative. Besides, if there's more than a handful of forces you can play as, the player base will be too divided. Hard to get a good WAAAGH! going when there's only a dozen Orks on the server.

Likely they'll do a 'cultural pvp' like Age of Conan had. I would at least hope so... (Imperials vs everyone, etc)
So much for celebrating diversity - lets get it on!

Yeah but from what I have heard THQ was making WH40K Space Marine as well, but they had that taken away from them and given to Relic and now they are just publishing that as well. Hopefully that means because they needed to dedicate to this game solely.

The MMO is being made by Vigil Games. If their work on Darksiders is any indication though, they'll be on-par with Relic for quality. Being that these two games are really their (Vigil's) big debut, and their chance to impress one of the two largest Video Game manufacturers in North America, as well as GW, I imagine they'll want it to be as true-to-fluff as possible.
THQ didn't have Space Marine taken away. Relic has always been a big part of the Development of their games. Most of their titles have some amount of Relic's effort in them.
I think THQ learned a big lesson in how to suck by letting Ironlore make Soulstorm without supervision. Unlike most, however, they weren't happy with just the profits from the sales. They said "Wow, that was a steaming pile of s t. Thank you for making people hate us. You're not getting another contract from us. Ever."
What that taught them, is to do a better job monitoring progress with their contracted developers. If it's crap, you can guarantee (Especially with the Ultramarines movie in the works) that they're going to come down hard on the responsible parties.

I will try hard to find the link to the article that I read about space marine to post in an appropriate thread, it was a really good read. Ya gotta love a developer that has gaming tables in their lunch rooms lol. But as far as the MMO goes I would rather expect to be disappointed and then be pleasantly surprised, then to get my hopes up and be let down.

Fair enough, I'm just saying don't label it as a failure waiting to happen until it's out. If it sucks, it sucks. We haven't lost anything, because our lives didn't stop through the development. And if it's great and it blows the MMO genre out of the water, then we win out. I'd say it's going to be good to say the least though, being that THQ is overseeing the project.

Ive heard its suppose to be a squad based MMO. Kind of like dow2. That would be pretty badass being able to lvl up squads and such. The pics look fantastic and I really cant wait to see what systems this comes out for. I hope they tell early enough for me to get a new computer.

If you can play as a 40K ork then I'm sold. Any game where you can play as a 40K ork would punch my wallet good. Just the idea of chopping up a space marine with a power klaw is worth the price of admission. Though I doubt it would hold my attention for more than a couple weeks if it's just WoW for 40k.
I'd rather this was a battlefield type game. KingCracker's comments of a squad based MMO is also a nice idea. I hope there is some truth behind that rumor.

Looks good.
I have one problem though. When I played Warhammer Online you wander anywhere. Guardsmen and marines are supposed to stay in squads and do only tactically planned assaults. Therefore I do not forsee how they would be able to make a 'free to walk around' game without ignoring background.
This is just my opinion though.
So I do hope they make this squad based.

Not to worry, THQ has confirmed that it WILL be Squad Combat. Basically, their reason was: WoW sucks because you NEED a group to get through some things. Our game can be done entirely solo, though being more difficult than if you were in a group.
That, right there, is a big part of why it's going to be good in terms of gameplay. I hate "Must group" games, because if you can't find one, you're screwed for a loooooong time. Really kills the fun in it.

hehe. Yeah, I got that. I was saying that I like the old style better. But they're using the new style in their renders.
Oh well. Maybe the chaos will have the old style. Not likely, though.

I hate "Must group" games, because if you can't find one, you're screwed for a loooooong time. Really kills the fun in it. Alright I'm excited about the game now. That seems like a good idea to me since it follows the whole logic of the hobby. The smallest logical break in the 40k game and the fluff is a squad. I don't see why a soldier would be running around on his own. I am a fan of all of Relic's games including Homeworld which is one of my favorites so I knew they were a safe bet, but I know very little about Vigil games so I'm still a bit worried. though this link ( http://www.vigilgames.com/img/WH40KOnline/WH40K_Online_Concept.jpg) does lend me some confidence in them. The ork bommer is my favorite ork vehicle. the fact that it is the picture (looks like a blasta-bommer to me) that greets you when visiting their website seals the deal for me.

Can you play as anyone you want (i.e. Daemon Hunter, Storm Trooper, Eldar Striking Scorpion, Ork Nob, etc.?
I think it would be cool where, if you died as an eldar character, you get turned into a wraithlord, or wraithguard

I hope I didn't mislead you. I meant I had confidence in Relic when they announced they were doing the Dawn of War series. As far as I know it's just Vigil doing this game. I watched the gametrailers preview of Darksiders. It looked pretty good. We shall see.

Well, it would make a whole lot of sense:
Blue, red, grey (cornflower?),green, black, and yellow plus the spiky colors: Green, red, blue, pink, and black. That's a lot of variation - 11 different races!
Sarcasm aside, i'm interested in the 40kmmo. I'm hoping for a solid SF mmo that doesn't have EVE's learning cliff.
