It was a great time, as always. This was my fourth Adepticon, and my second year captaining a second team for the Cold Steel Mercs.
I usually play Warhammer on Friday but didn't want to bring a second army this year, so I played Gladiator instead. I had four great opponents- Ricky from Toronto with horde orks, two of the Blade & Bolter Boys (Matt Rogers,
IIRC, and Jason Sperka?) in rounds 2 and 3 using Marines, and Cory from the Sons of Shatner with horde orks again in R3. I lost to the Orks due to making mistakes against the Vortex Grenade and Stasis Missile special weapons. I came in middle of the pack in 50th. All of my opponents actually had "normal" (albeit very strong) armies. Two horde Ork and two
LR-heavy space marines.
I brought:
Abaddon
Lash prince
5 Terminators w/2 combi-melta, 1 combi-flamer, heavy flamer, powerfist, chain fist, icon of glory. w/Land Raider w/dirge caster
Dread with plasmacannon
10
CSM w/fist, 2 melta, icon of glory, rhino w/combi-melta
8 berserkers w/fist, personal icon, rhino w/combi-melta
5
CSM w/melta, icon of glory, rhino w/havoc
5 lesser daemons
5 lesser daemons
6 havocs w/4
ml, icon of glory
Possessed vindicator w/dirge caster
2 oblits
I was happy with the list, a little annoyed with my own mistakes.
On Saturday as I mentioned we had two teams in the team tournament. Again, I had four great games, mostly against great opponents, though there were two guys out of the eight I faced who were taking it a bit too seriously. Then again, who am I to judge on that score?
We faced mechanized Orks, Vulkan-led Salamanders, mostly-mech
IG, and Razorback/Thunderwolf Space Wolves. I managed to win all my games, though my team also had a couple of draws and a loss or two. The other Cold Steel Mercs team ran infantry horde
IG, my half ran a Space Marine / Space Wolf crusade army. We came in 15th, and our
IG half was just behind us in 16th.
My 1k was:
Rune priest w/jaws, lightning, melta bomb
3 Wolf guard- 2x fist & combi-melta, 1x
PW & pistol (should have been fist as well, but my mistake)
9
GH w/melta, fist, wolf standard, in rhino
8
GH w/melta, fist, wolf standard, in rhino
5
GH w/flamer, fist, in razor (should have been
PW; same points to upgrade the
WG instead)
Typhoon w/
HB
6
LF w/5

On Sunday I was on the waiting list for the championship (stupid procrastination), and got in. The only bummer was waiting around to be called, I didn't get out around the hall and see all the amazing armies. I totally missed Age of Egos’ amazing Emperor and Custodes + White Scars at the gates during the Siege of Terra army. AoE didn’t win player’s choice, but probably mostly because the poor guy forgot to put his name by his army list. He still got 20 votes while he was sitting near it, but that didn’t manage to win. I got a high-scored Draw in R1 against a gorgeous and brutal Ultramarines biker army (another Blade & Bolter player, Brian Crew, who was excellent), a near-max win in R2 against a neat black/yellow Tyranid horde/mixed army, and a good win against Milan’s Broadside & Kroot-heavy Tau in R3, despite being on a bit of a shooting gallery table. Three really good, nice opponents. I came in 6th overall on the blue side.
My list was:
Lash prince
JP lash sorc w/personal icon
5 Terminators w/2 combi-melta, 1 combi-flamer, heavy flamer, powerfist, chain fist, icon of glory.
Dread with plasmacannon
10
CSM w/fist, 2 melta, icon of glory, rhino w/combi-melta
8 berserkers w/fist, personal icon, rhino w/combi-melta
5
CSM w/melta, icon of glory, rhino w/havoc
7 lesser daemons
6 havocs w/4
ml, icon of glory
Possessed vindicator
2 oblits
So 8W, 2L, 1D on the weekend, and 13/15 great opponents (and really, those two guys still gave a fun competitive game). Also the usual amazing stuff to see, sweet swag bag, great pizza, drinking and socializing with tons of fun gamers. Can’t wait for next year, though next time I’m definitely taking Monday off work and playing poker.

Aside from the aforementioned point that he missed the points for not submitting or putting his name on a quiz, the quiz was purely on the core
40k rules. Mostly lesser-known ones, but core rulebook rules. Got any more erroneous conclusions you want to leap to?
