So, is it safe to assume that GK, IH and angry marines pretty much fill the "other" slots by themselves?

Aren't they just supposed to be part of their first company, survivors from the battle(s) of Maccrage?

nope, they are a special task force under Cassius, outside the CoC. Hypocrites.

See you just said "special task force". therefore its not part a permanent part of the Ultra organization. Its a bunch of guys Cassius can call up for special missions and duties when the Tyranids are a foot. Much like like Xenos Hunters Deathwatch. Ultramarines send men into the Deathwatch which breaks up squads and messes with the standard organization of the chapter but no one gives them for that. But as soon as Cassius wants to gather up a few bad @$$ Vets to hunt some Nids, the Ultras turn into hypocrites???
Next question...... has anyone ever written the Codex Astartes??? I know we get lots of info on it, but i am pretty sure no one has officially written the book, so I think its safe to assume that under special circumstances a chapter can gather its best warriors to perform a certain specialized task.

One should think of the Codex Astartes as sort of being like the Bible. There are plenty of Christians that interpret things differently out of the same book. Even the Inquisition has factions with different ideas about how exactly things should be done.

It would be stupid for Marneus Calgar to not allow the use of expertise of the Tyrannic War Veterans, I'm sure there's probably basis for this in the Codex Astartes.

word! Until someone decides and/or gets GW permission to write the FULL BLOWN Codex, then lets just assume that since its a stated fact that the Ultramarines are Dogmatic in their faith in the Codex, that the Tyrannic Vets, can fit into the dogma. Otherwise the Ultras wouldn't use them.

They also have super powers like Wolverine's Mutant Healing Factor but for Robots. It's called "I'll Be Back" That's a cool name. Someone should use that line in a movie. They also have unkillable Space Gods who like to hang out with them and kill everyone instead of just eating the sun which would kill everyone faster but would make a boring game. It's OK for them to have Space Gods who can eat suns but it is not OK to make rules for the Emperor or the Primarchs because they?re too powerful. They also have flying Space Houses that kill everyone and can't die. And they're very (x2) easy to paint too.

Ok, I get the fists being smart andNot fighting to extinction... Good on them. Now riddle me this, why, exactly is the exact oposite in game? Combat tactics would fit their fighting retreat mentality a whole lot better than the exact opposite, stubborn, that they actually HAVE.

No, the arrogance is thinking that Black Templar are somehow the only ones that do that. They aren't, and never were.

Quite a few chapters are constantly crusading, and it's not always a good thing-- just because the Black Templar "conquer" a world doesn't mean anything without the Imperium's support (the Black Templar cannot populate a world, nor can they convert the civilian population to the imperial creed, nor can they defend the world as well as the Guard can, nor can they keep order on a world truly wishing to resist, etc).

Hmmm, claiming I am arrogant? Getting a wee tad personal to slap down a "generalized" statement that hard. Plus "arrogance is not fact" is a bit light on explanation, have you ever heard of "projection" in psychological terms? (NOW you are getting me to act arrogant, Happy?)

The original connection to the crusades in our history was that the Templar's main job was to protect the way to the holy land. The mandate of the Templar in 40k was to go out and perform a crusade as penance to conquer for the emperor as a fleet based chapter, no other chapters made this commitment (check the codex fluff). The essence of my statement is true.

I agree there can be many interpretations of "best". The bunny hugging, full package Ultramarines are great. They even can maintain multiple star systems and govern without anyone getting their knickers in a knot. Since they missed the war at Terra, they were the biggest army around and even got to write a codex that caused the Templar to get into trouble in the first place. The exact same codex set rules to ensure marines would be unable to rule to prevent another heresy event. Templar chapter keeps are littered pretty much everywhere so they have more means of being informed where there is a problem than most chapters.

How about I define that Black Templar are the "best" for the pure joy of being a wild and weird marine force to play a game with? Only they have "ye holy hand grenade" all we need now is evil gnashing teeth bunnies to combat (If the Ultramarines could spare a few and stop hugging them).

A revolution is an idea which has found its bayonets.
