Must defend my other hobby there for a bit. That just goes for 1 out of 4 formats competitive tournaments are held in (and it's 7 legal sets

). Another has the past 16 sets legal, the third allows for all cards ever printed bar the really overpowered mistakes and the last one allows all cards including the really overpowered mistakes. And that's without all the countless casual variants thrown in.
So in Magic you can just pick what you want, a diverse and everchanging metagame or to be able to play with all your cards.
Though I must say that magic-guy wasn't really informed either. It's hard to do well in tournament magic of any format these days without resorting to $50,- or $60,- cards, of which you need 4 obviously. Wargaming's cheaper to me (doesn't count for all you ForgeWorld resin-addicts out there)
