Ugh. I think I'm getting out of the hobby. I drew the short straw and rolled 6 1s on the army I ended up liking. I mean, I picked the Tau, and in a game where the designers have claimed that "Close combat is Fun!" I chose one of the armies where it is not fun. Ever. Most of my guys strike at the same time as Necrons. I should have picked space marines like everybody else.


It seems like "Games Day" is really just "Forge World Announcements". I don't want to have to either drive for over 12 hours to buy forgeworld stuff at a bunker (take your pick, Memphis and Baltimore are equidistant to where I live, with Baltimore being slightly closer IIRC). I don't want to play apocalypse games. Normal games are annoying enough to set up. And when it can take over an hour per turn, that's starting to get silly.

And Forgeworld stuff feels 'unofficial'. Yeah, they're owned by GW. But XV9s ain't in the Tau codex, so you get some people who won't let you play them as XV9s. And Forgeworld products are a bit more than I'm willing to pay.

Having been playing for almost 2 years, I have to say I'm pretty disappointed. I know there are people who have played for 10+ years and "Back in your day, you had 1 piece metal models, walked to school barefoot through minefields and razorwire covered in 10 feet of snow up hill both ways through gale-force rain and hail" but I didn't so I don't really care.

Its annoying that GW hasn't said anything about the Dark Eldar (an army I was wanting to get into, because they are supposed to be Radical Good Speed and good in Close Combat-which is the "most fun part of the game"). I can kind of understand why they aren't, but I'm really just tired of it raining $100 bills for Space Marine (and Forgeworld) players and me reaching out and catching a turd in the face.

Try farsight with a maxed out crisis suits and sheild drones. My buddy's tau army routinely smacked down my bezerkers with that layout.

I wouldn't say that's the worst advice you could give a Tau player, but it's pretty damn close.

"You know all that stuff in your army that's actually good? Pathfinders, piranhas, broadsides and hammerheads? Yeah, don't take any of them, just max out on crisis suits and suicide them all in close combat!"

If you want a close combat army, pick a different army, don't try to make Tau into something they're not. You'll just end up wasting even more money and really want to quit the hobby for good.

Red Scorpions are a pretty complete line-up, as it stands now. And the fact that IA8 was Raven Guard makes me think they know they've done all they can for 'em, outside of releasing Chapter specific Scouts(which'd be silly to do, since Scouts are Scouts...the difference is in the training and veterancy make-up of Chapters' Scout corps). The fact that we're also getting "generic" ancient styles of armor lends credence to that, as they realize people aren't really interested in scraping symbols off anymore.
