Fluffwise, the chains can be broken, but only briefly: instead of falling to the ground they fade into dark mist, promptly writhing itself back into place before freezing into the restraints of before.
I like the fluff idea, may have to put that into a story. To fix it, I was going to open and then close the chain back around one of my links with some of my tools . And then glue it to the other side. So basically the same really.
My back has finally healed enough for me to paint, and I'm buzzing about with barely any time at all, unable to finish my proof of concept model for the Seekers.
However, it shouldn't take too long once I figure things out to replicate them across the unit.
So, what do you think I should do next? Another troops choice, or maybe a HQ or Daemon Prince? Been thinking of using the Nightbringer with some conversions, like someone suggested in this thread. I'd love to adjust him to be a her though, but that sounds like a crazy amount of work. Anyone know a plastic fermale torso about the right size I can fit on?

Well, I asked Sersi for the torso of the DP without six pairs of breasts, though she seems a little confused at the request. I got the White Dwarf this month, and it has a lot of stuff on how to do the extreme highlighting for the Dark Eldar. Will give it a go once I have some free time and see how it turns out.
Shadow Daemons (Horrors) will be next.

that nightbringer model and color scheme is awesome!
4250 points of Blood Angels goodness, sweet and silky W12-L6-D4

Not really going to be modifying them that much, but will make the greenstuffing better; the models as I have them now have arm sockets showing, various lumps and bumps that don't really work and not nearly enough tentacle arms.
So the plan is to pin the arm sockets and then use those as armatures for nice tentacle arms. The painting scheme of black with dark grey highlights, white tattoos (blue tattoos for group 2) and glowing blue eyes will be kept, though updated so it's less "paint it black, drybrush a dark grey, gloss varnish" . I love the blended horns from black to white so those are staying. Claws will be getting the same rotting flesh look that the daemonettes got, instead of silver. And of course, I've updated the base to be both circular and urban destruction.
I have about 3 or 4 shadow daemons already painted up, and am considering stripping them using Fairy Power Spray as the dryad heads are plastic. I don't really want to paint over them as I have quite a thick layer of varnish over the model, so the other option would be to simply greenstuff what I wanted on the models and paint that into the scheme and then varnish that seperately.
However! This is all in the planning stage and I shouldn't get too carried away with the next lot when I still haven't even finished painting my first Whisper! If I get my chores done before it gets too late, I'll try to do some work on her tonight and try thinning and heightening the highlights on the steed and hair. Then it's just painting the true metallics, finishing off the concrete dust effect, heightening the frost effect on the mane, painting a proper frost fresco on the loincloth, and then doing the same over the other nine, plus banner. Then I get to work on the Herald of Slaanesh, finishing greenstuffing her, painting her up in the same(ish) colours and then finally I will have a finished unit!
Or a nervous breakdown, whichever comes first

Love the concepts and models LadyCassandra. In fact I like it so much I'm just gonna send you a torso free of charge, I've got many lying around. As I'm really interested to see what you'll do with it. I'm not a sure which one you wanted though. Was it this one?
Hey Sersi! Yes, that was the one, I love the ring and cloth, and I have a bunch of the old metal daemonettes so it really echoes nicely with them as a similar look.
I really appreciate the offer of one for free, though I feel I have to warn you that my intended conversion for it may not come into existence for quite a while, considering my rate of completion. Also, it's dependent on whether the proportions suit the Nightbringer model. If you're happy with that, then I'd love a spare torso . If not, I'm still interested in buying one. I just felt it was unfair not to warn you.
EDIT: An hour or so in Paintshop Pro ends up with this, not brilliant but functional, idea sketch of what I want the finished Daemon Prince to look like.

Wait, LunaHound isn't a guy?

Sersi: I just realised, my old Daemon Prince model has a OOP metal daemonette in it. Would you like that as a swap? It doesn't have it's original right arm though, I'm not sure if I have it hanging around somewhere...
.. you're welcome to keep the tentacle arm and SWORD OF DHOOM though.

Just been told that the torso is in the mail. Thanks so much Sersi . I'll definitely get on that conversion after the Horrors *starts canvassing eBay for Nightbringer models*
Well, my boyfriend (who currently plays a mechanized Imperial Guard army) has got his hands on the new Dark Eldar codex and despite protestations that since they have iron statues in Khaine shrines why don't they get Avatars, is very much enjoying it. However, what caught my attention was his musings upon the Mandrakes.
"...a Mandrake can pull itself into reality straight through another being's shadow, emerging with a hiss to sink its ice-cold claws and teeth into warm flesh. Their inky skin writhes with forbidden runes, and their faces shift and flow; one moment sealing over into an expressionless mask, the next parting like a reopened wound filled with needle teeth. Mandrakes exist both in reality and a cursed otherworld, and to fight them is to fight living shadow, for they are not fully corporeal...
The origins of the Mandrakes are shrouded. Some claim [they] descend from Eldar who engaged in heinous union with unholy entities when their empire was at its most decadent. Others maintain that the mysterious stalkers are descended from a forbidden cult that found its own way to escape the Fall, passing into shadow and emerging as something altogether more alien...
Their flesh is coal-dark and seems to absorb rather than reflect light, their features shift like oil, and their lank hair is as pale as splintered bone. Surrounding them is an aura of darkness and cold that saps the strength of those nearby - often the first sign of a Mandrake attack will be a thin rime of ice hanging in the air. The twisting shapes set into their flesh are sigils of destruction that pulse brightly whenever the Mandrake feeds upon the pain of its prey. Mandrakes are capable of channelling these stolen energies, shaping blasts of cold fire that roar out from their claws to freeze their victims in place."
- Codex: Dark Eldar
To me this smacks of the cold and shadow aspects of Obscuras so hard it's not funny. Okay, maybe a little funny. I'm torn between being happy that something I can link to in real fluff is around, and upset that the fact the Mandrakes have been around for a long, long time makes some of my campaign ideas a bit iffy. Perhaps he was a minor Chaos God, or perhaps just one that was growing. A conversation with my boyfriend about the birth of Slaanesh and the Eye of Terror made me realise, there aren't four Eyes of Terror out there. Perhaps the birth of Chaos Gods isn't always so painful, when the cause for it isn't concentrated in a relatively small area of space. That doesn't mean that Obscuras isn't working up to blotting out the light of the Astronomicon, but it also means that he, and his daemons (and the Dark Eldar he apparently co-opted in some manner, the Mandrakes) have been working in the shadows (*coughcough*) for a long time, fostering fear. Hilariously, blotting out the Astronomicon will probably make the Tyranids a bit confused, since it's been hinted that they're being drawn to it.
I quite like the addition of the Mandrakes in a fluff sort of way as well, as it makes a certain sort of sense. In the original WFB setting, the Gods of Law each opposed one of the Chaos Gods. Obscuras opposed Slaanesh, countering sensation with numbness and emptiness. The poor, blinded, numb from cold and terrified Slaaneshi's were given no sensations to latch onto except for a sense of inevitable doom and the recounting of their own sins in the form of the whispers in their mind. A fitting torture for their poor souls. Dark Eldar, fearing the god they had created, may have turned to something that was opposite it in every way for surcease and protection.
Obscuras colour scheme, if I ever had them for an Apocalypse game (or for funsies). [Done in Paintshop Pro, not my model or my paintjob.]
