If I told a customer a website or graphic they had paid me to make (what I do for a living) was going to be late four hours before that date was over I wouldn't be in a job right now.
Though... what if you delivered the graphic before the deadline, but the person your client was using to print the graphic onto brochures had their machine gak up just moments before they were to be shipped to customers?
A lot of rage is being thrown towards Codex pictures, but I'm pretty sure they are not into the DVD manufacturing business. There was likely a breakdown in the process of delivering the product to you and I'm sure Codex is just as upset about this as you are. They want everybody to see the movie and sing the praises to get more orders in for Christmas.
I've seen this happen a few times for larger companies where product is delayed because of a gremlin in the process. It happens to the big boys too. And before the "They should have had it manufactured well before the release date" comments begin, some video games do not go 'Gold' until just days before the release date. There is a lot of work to bring a product to market and many possible points of failure.
We just need to sit patient and hopefully, we can get the movie after a few delay. I have two pre-ordered. One for myself and one for a Christmas present. I ordered them over a month ago and I'm not worried about the fraction of a penny I lost pre-ordering or not stressing over this. Shyte happens.

The person the client used? Well that would be nothing to do with me. If I was using the company, yes I'd still be in the gak. Well off example anyway as the idea they left it till 8pm on the day of the deadline to ship the product is absurd.
If you are relying on another company to do a service for you concerning a product you can't just say to the customer "direct your problems at them it's their fault." Not how it works.

Actual valid reasons are always an accepted part of the process man. That is the kind of stuff worked out in the contracts they undoubtedly (should) have.
Don't talk about this until you know the actual facts in this case. It's completely pointless.

So 3 pages of whining because a movie didn't get shipped instantly on the release date that was given.
It happens. Especially when you are not the big boys.
The DVD production probably got shoved in the queue behind some studio movie that paid big for a christmas release.
Codex, being new, are a little fish. They were overly optimistic on the time it would take the DVDs to be ready to ship.
Likely being told by someone at the production company that they would be out, hence the pulled web announcement Friday.
Yakface's review was done with a pre-production version of the movie, so they didn't have completed DVDs to send out for promotion purposes.
This leads me to think that they were waiting just as we are.
And they are not the only company to take funds before shipping.
I ordered a Kindle, and it had a 3 week delay until it shipped. Money was taken immediately.

No, you've missed the point. Most of the complaints are due to said information being received ridiculously late. And most of the whining is being done on the part of the fanboys jumping to their defence shouting "nerd-rage". Before that happened most comments were just passing remarks, no one was losing any sleep over this.

Oh, I got the point.
Most on this thread are stomping their feet and crying "I want it NOW!!"
Who said they needed to even tell you it would be late?
Maybe it was a debated decision, and emails were sent as soon as they decided.
Maybe they thought the announcement was up on their site, and then they started getting emails from frantic fanboys.
Who knows? There is not enough information to get worked up about.

Codex could have been notified near last minute as well.
I know I get some screener titles for review a month or two ahead of time. They are pre-production versions. Often, they are unpackaged white labeled Blu or DVD titles. Other screeners arrive close to or around release date and they are production versions.
DVDs are typically produced by dedicated companies. WAMO (Warner Advanced Media Operations) was/is based in Pennsylvania and handled roughly 1/3rd of DVD production during the first three years of the format. There were only a few companies that manufactured the discs for the studios and you can usually see these logos after you watch a movie.
Codex could have been bumped because of a bigger release. Heck, the machine they were to be 'burned' on could have broken down and they need a window of opportunity for another machine to free up, or for that machine to be fixed. The packaging company could have printing issues or even the binding company for the collector's edition book.
Many, many things could have been wrong and at the end of the day, Codex is a customer to these companies as we are customers to Codex.

If you think people are "BAAAAAAWIN" or being "nerd-ragers" because they make a passing complaint over the lateness of this information go ahead. Don't make stupid comments about how they are excused because it was their suppliers fault not theirs. Imagine if this werent a dvd and were train tickets for example and you had been told the shipping would be delayed a few hours before the day they were suposed to be sent was over, and your train left the next day. Do you think if you called up to complain the people you bought the tickets from about the lateness of the "forewarning," they could get away with the line: "oh it wasn't us it was the guys we get to print the tickets"? No don't be silly. A company is subject to it's suppliers.

God I hate apologists. Not because they defend GW, but because they will chuck any form of reason or standards out the window if necessary to do so.
1. It is ok to be pissed that they are late sending. You guys payed for a service with a promise attached for delivery, they did not live up to their end on that.
2. Supplier or not, the responsibility lies with the company you gave your money to, it was in turn their responsibility to manage their suppliers diligently and keep track of their logistics. The buck stops at Codex.
3. To you ridiculous, ridiculous people who say oh just be grateful you are getting it at all... they didn't do you a favor making this movie. They want your money. You gave it to them. You did THEM the favor, do you grovel at the feet of a McDonald employee when they hand you a Big Mac for the privilege of paying them to eat it???
Jesus, it's not that big a deal, but it is a badly handled situation and a breach of promise to purchasers, not even getting into the fact they clearly delayed notifying people til the last minute, despite the fact they had to have known there was a problem before hand (deleted notification on Friday.) It wouldn't kill some of you to just say, ya, that sucks, but not that bad. There is absolutely no benefit to the consumer in this, so stop pretending there is.
Rant end.

Yes, indeed. Here are some examples of nerd-rage and twisted panties:
"oh snow balls"
"I can't escape feeling like this information could have been relayed days - if not weeks - ago."
"Oh well. I'm sure the problem will be solved soon. "
"Is it weird that I am not at all surprised by this?"
"There will be hard times, my hearties. I'm still happy that (1) there is such a movie, (2) it's on it's way to my house eventually, and (3) people who've seen it say it's a good start."
"I don't believe that makes my surprise unwarranted in any way. To be honest, even Friday is a bit of late notice in my opinion. "
"It still made me instantaneously sadface when I saw it. "
"My son and I were looking forward to watching this movie together. I hope they get their act together quickly on this"
"Nah my rommie was just as disappointed as me"
"Delays always happen, I wouldn't let it worry you too much "
"My mail is slow getting here anyway. I hadn't expected it for a while under any circumstances. "
Yes, absolutely unreasonable responses, totally out of line and crazy stuff.
At this point I'm less irritated with the movie delay, and more annoyed with the fact when the this thread finishes it's rapid ascension to " this thread is disappointing" which I fully expect to happen within the next 3 hours at most, that the people who came in here and essentially threadcrapped garbage like "The nerd-rage in this thread is hilarious. Thank you guys for the laughs. " will have once again shut down another thread without consequence, which is a troll win. /golfclap

Agreed. If I deliver work like that it would generally result in reduced fees and a non-returning customer ...

GW isn't even involved in the shipping. Codex pictures is responsible.
This is a nice example of the usal dismissal of the voice of reason and level-headedness as " GW apologists"
Furthermore I am not sure what people expected to happen in this thread anyway. There is a delay and nobody here knows the exact reason. So what was expected? Discussion? About what? Facts that we don't have?
So what we get instead is a long row of sad-faces, some more mature than others, which perhaps is the logical result. What exactly is the value of that? The way this thread went was inevitable Imo, given the circumstances, which is not the opening poster's fault btw. He just posted the news.

Sorry TBD, god what a stretch to imply the GW apologist syndrome would apply to Codex while they peddle a GW product.
The only dismissal here is that of people making excuses for poor product management and failiure to deliver. Again, I am not saying light yourselves on fire it's time to freak out, just that it is in fact more than reasonable to call foul when a company that already has your money fails to meet it's obligations and waits to the last minute to notify. For those who don't care to wait, that's fine too and their perogative, however, it pisses me off for that group to tell the other that isn't satisfied with the situation that they are 'whining' or it isn't Codex's fault is ridiculous. That's what I take issue with. I also don't see where anyone blamed the poster for the movie being late lol?????
Please attempt reading the entire post next time, and rebut me on my points if you feel they are wrong. Level-headedness does not equal take everything you get without standard or recourse, nor does it mean anything is above legitimate and logical criticism.

This is a good argument for why people should try digital distribution.
They should put some DRM on an video and then upload it as torrent, then email out access codes to pre-orderes then we could all see it.
Then we can wait to get the solid copy when it's ready to be shipped, problem solved

Read the threads. The website posting was seen on Friday and then quickly removed. Why? They obviously knew then they could not deliver and presumably had done for a while as the post had already been prepared. Not then finally posting this until after close of business on the 29th was just sticking two fingers up to everyone they had already taken money off!
If they'd had given warning as soon as they knew then the bad press would have been massively lessened ...

Sure, its not unique, I'm not giving up on GW, or the movie, or loosing sleep, or wanting to defame or argue with anyone. Its pretty simple:
Offers were advertised and accepted
Money changed hands in good faith
Product did not ship
Customers are in Limbo
I'd be equally displeased with Amazon, Blizzard, Apple or any 'big guy' companies. Hopefully codex movies will offer a ship date today.

As we advised yesterday, due to a production issue outside our control, we were not able to start shipping the complete Ultramarines DVD collector’s set on November 29th 2010 as planned.
We have teams in the UK, US and Europe working around the clock to resolve the issue.

In business it is common practice not to talk about a problem till you are absolutely sure you have one. I would assume this is a case of them being afraid of a delay but not being absolutely sure there was one till the last minute. No one is happy about it, but they did the right thing and did notify rather than let it go past the ship date and leave people wondering. You have two choices, ask for a refund or be patient. For those stamping their feet and yelling, it won't help.
Latest email from Codex Pictures:
Dear Montgomery Scott
RE Order 1A2B3C
As we advised yesterday, due to a production issue outside our control, we were not able to start shipping the complete Ultramarines DVD collector’s set on November 29th 2010 as planned.
We have teams in the UK, US and Europe working around the clock to resolve the issue.
At this time, we are hoping that orders can start to ship next week. In the meantime, we will keep you informed as soon as we receive more information.
Once again, please accept our sincere apologies for this delay to you receiving your Ultramarines DVD.
Sincerely,
Codex Pictures

I got it too, at least they are trying and doing what they can, it would seem. This is unfortunate but acceptable IMO.
I'm still looking forward to getting it of course, to bad its going to be another week, at least.
EDIT:
I would really like to see this launch succeed, and sell very well, because I love the subject matter and I would like to see more productions that follow. Honestly I'm more concerned that issues like this will affect the circulation and success of the film and sales numbers and they wont make anymore because of it. This is a larger concern than having to wait a few more days.
This is oddly reminiscent of other low circulation number sci fi productions I have liked in the past that fell apart, not because of poor content, story, or execution, but because of failure in scheduling, supply, and or timing.

You don't see people going back and forth trying to defend their reactions? I suppose I could be imagining it, I haven't eaten all day.
-OR-
If you're inquiring how I was ninja'd... Someone beat me to posting the latest Codex email.
edit

Britain's had some rather extreme weather conditions this past few days... Many roads, railways and airports have been closed down due to the snow and ice. In Scotland, the postal service has ground to a painful halt in many areas (including where I live...)
I'm willing to bet that this has something to do with it.
