It's not that they're killed it's just that one gets hurt and 3-4 others carry him to the medic (after all we're a dieing race we need to take as much care of the others as we can, not to mention their week little arms means they need more people to carry one person).

Thanks that makes me feel alot better now and clears up some questions.

Quick! Someone tell the film, toy, food, videogame and fashion industries that children don't have any money before they waste decades advertising to them!

Why so expensive? Seems like GW is behaving like Apple....if you only sell an expensive product then with enough demand people will buy the expensive product.

In the Webway.

Yeah, i see what you mean about the demons, but i have to disagree on the whole 'less dead' thing. To be honest, seriously wounded is just as bad of an image as dead, maybe even worse and GW managers will intoduce death and other violent images into their introductory games for kids. I don't think they're trying to make it less violent so more kids will play, if the kid doesn't like violence then a wargame is probably not the best hobby for him.

On the other hand, what kid doesn't like violence? With the exception of super sheltered kids, ie me when I was one, violent images aren't exactly scarce in this society and are often visual and audible in nature via movies and games. I mean I know its not on the scale of what I imagine but its a lot more than what i was thinking when i was that age (emperor damnit, i sound like an old fart now. Lil' whippersnappers)

This is the funny thing. The that idea of battles as an orgy of ultraviolence full of piles of corpses is part of the juvenile male aesthetic. And it’s called the juvenile male aesthetic for a reason – because young boys love that kind of stuff.

The idea that pointing out that most people taken out of the fight aren’t actually killed is just recognising reality. Complaining that its kiddifying the game to do so is crazy.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.

Well one can follow the progression of the 40k rulebook covers and definitely see the violence de emphasized there:

Blood, Being Hit, Burned, Wounded, Dead, Skulls

NO BLOOD, Being Hit, Burned, Wounded, Dead, Skulls

NO BLOOD, No HITS, NO BURNED, NO WOUNDED, NO DEAD, Skull Only?

Even the Skull is gone and the battle is some vague red border suitable for a scrap book.

Especially with regard to wounded and dead models. The explicit depictions are very much tamer in the more recent art.

Maybe the skulls all left the print and moved to the models!

So having less skulls is proof they're making it less gory. Except when they start putting more skulls on the models, in which case we ignore that because it doesn't suit the narrative we like about it being a less gory hobby.

And so the narrative feeds itself.
