They shouldn't have said a single thing or released anything about it until it was done. Then put it out there. No one would be able to stop it then.

Unfortunately...
YES... no one would be able to stop it from spreading over the net like wild fire, but...
NO.... GW Legal would make sure that they didn't get a single red cent to compensate them for all the hard work, money, time and other resources they'd invested in it's development.

And why exactly should anyone be able to profit off of GW's IP without their permission? Why is it GW's "fans" owe them so much more than other businesses fans do? Can I take, say, the Aliens franchise IP and create my own movies for profit, without permission, just because I like it? No. Can I take an author's work, write my own stories based off of the characters they created, and sell it for profit? No.
I mean, afterall, I could put in alot of hard work, money, time and effort to piggyback already popular works. So why shouldn't I be able to just take an IP I did not create and do whatever I like with it, and while I'm at it, line my pockets with cash? How dare anyone try and stop me doing such a thing.
Sarcasm aside, I think it would be great to see fan made films, if GW gives it the OK. But don't try an make an argument that anyone should be able to create a fan-film, sell it for profit, and GW would be the bad guy for wanting to shut that down.

Hmmm...I think you've read a bit more into my post than I actually wrote.
I don't see my post actually making any arguments "that anyone should be able to create a fan-film, sell it for profit, and GW would be the bad guy for wanting to shut that down", or addressing the "IP issues" argument.
I simply expressed my opinion (in response to Sanchez's brief note) as to what would actually happen if the film-makers actually did "put it out there" after investing a lot of hard work etc.
Maybe next time actually READ the post you're quoting , think for a couple of minutes as to what it actually says and addresses, and take a deep breath before you hit the submit button.
I know the whole "IP thing" strikes deep at some people, but I'm not one of 'em - don't drag me into it.

I applaud the effort, and if it's allowed to go ahead by GW, I'd be interested in seeing what they have done.
However, why must people put their balls on the line like this? By now, everyone knows GW stance and how they like to protect their I.P....hell, I know how tempting it is to see something done by someone else and think "hmm, if only they did XX it would be so much better"....unfortunately, it's not down to us.
I agree with others when they see this as a waste of talent, effort and dedication. GW will most likely feel threatened by this, should it go ahead, and demand that it be censored....and really, who could blame them.
People of the world....for the love of God leave GW I.P. alone....it's not worth the hassle....create new worlds for Sci Fi fans to admire and get involved with.
One last note. Someone mentioned that these guys are targeting WH40K, because it will gather a larger following. In the blurb at the beginning of the website, they announce they are doing this for no profit....so where is the benefit of getting a wide audience coverage? If it's fan made, and only for fun, there's no difference between one person seeing it or 2 billion.

1. Create new worlds? Oh yeah because there aren't enough yet, and because it will be easy to get people on board. And because if those lovely new worlds are actually successful, then they will surely not protect their IP, so there will be no more fan-fiction problems.
2. Yeah I dunno why the creator of the movie wants to spread the word. I guess he must be dumb because he could watch it all by himself in his basement when he's done making it.
/sarcasm
Seriously, stop whining. If you want to see Damnatus, the previous movie banned by GW, then just friggin' download it. It's ou there, even though it has been banned.

As long as this gets finished and released to the internet, it can proliferate and spread and perhaps inspire those folks who made Ultramarines to make a better film next time.

Because if it's a new world where we don't have to worry about the scary IP lawyers, it will be just another project among dozens/hundreds/thousands that no one will really care about because they have no connection to people aside from "oooh, Sci-fi goodness!" If they go for 40k, then they can get sci-fi junkies and the masses of Warhammer players.

Just wait a couple months after it releases, then "A new movie brought to you by the creative team behind Lord Inquisitor..."
They're building up a fanbase who'll watch Inquisitor because it's 40k, and then watch their next project even if it isn't 40k, just because they liked Inquisitor that much.

Hey guys, thanks alot for all your comments! Your input is greatly appreciated.
As you might know there is some great new footage on the site (e.g. WIP video of a Thunderhawk landing). We also have a youtube channel now. Also, check out the new wallpapers!
Thanks for your support and don't hesitate to share your comments, they are important to make the animation as enjoyable as possible!

The one thing that concerned me, was the copyright blurb mentioned 'produced under license' - the thing is, that's entirely what it doesn't have.
On the other I can't really see what makes it any different from the 100's of other fan made things out there, like say Dragon Age's 'Wardens Fall' machinima which has received loads of plaudits from Bioware's staff.

I always thought that to legally retain it's IP, GW had to be shown to be protecting it? Unless the law stipulates that it doesn't have to count if the infringing material is awesome?

Hey all,
The fanbase has yet another chance to contribute and shape the animation!
I’m looking for designs for an old and mysterious artefact. Yes, this can be anything. You don’t have to know what powers lie hidden in the artefact or what it’s all about, but you can help me with the design. I need a design for this object as soon as possible, and I would be very happy if you could post links, ideas as well as your preferred personal drawings of a cool looking artefact. I'm imagining something like an abstract form, or maybe a kind of geometric symmetrical object, a statue, etc. Something like “the marker” of Dead Space, or the “Soulcube” from Doom. Designs like the marker would be awesome - it doesn’t have to be complex, it should just look like an interesting object that makes you wonder what it's about =)
Links of cool looking forms, objects, artefacts and the likes would be helpfull, which I could use for inspiration. The best would be to send me your own scribbled down ideas: I would actually model this in 3D then and you can see your design later on in The Lord Inquisitor. By the way, the teaser will hopefully come out in september and it should make you drool =)
Your help is wanted now! If you have any questions visit the homepage and do not hesitate to ask.
