I want to see more and better pictures of both of these, but initially they look promising.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

Wow, I can't believe people are so interested in that landraider. I played in the '90s, and that's still before my time. I guess if it wasn't I'd have nostalgia... maybe?

I remember loving beakie marines, but never, Ever craving that old landraider.

And for 80 pounds, I can't believe how many folks are interested! Different strokes, I guess...

Now that DE vehicle is a whole different matter . Awesome!

I was ecstatic when they came out with a new version of the land raider back in 3rd edition and was surprised too to see that the old RT ones routinely go for more on ebay than the newer style ones in better condition. What interests me the most in that press release is that they're calling the Proteus "faster" than the current LR. I'm curious to see if it'll end up a fast vehicle...

I'm inclined to agree. I think the b est estimate of anticipated sales is to draw the correlation

Players buying PRe-heresy FW marine armies will buy the same amount of the Proteious landradiers a rate correlating to the number of GE landraiders are generally purchased by GW Marine Army players. So if Pre heresy Marine kits sell, this new landraider will sell

I'm curious as to how exactly the rules for it will go. I have to say despite not feeling retro-nostalgic normally, I may pick one of these up so I can remind myself I once bought nearly the same thing 22 years ago for $19.00......

I think that FW knows that there are a lot of hobbiests with far more money than time.

I can't be alone in having an armies worth of stuff NIB in my closet. I know that I'm becoming more and more interested in having fewer, more expensive models just so I don't have more stuff to paint.

Way too expensive to be of interest for both of those, the Catamaran does look cool, tho. I'd never consider getting the LR - I guess I got into the game too late to feel nostalgic about that hunk of plastic.

$126 f0r an ugly model?

Not really a fan of the DE thing either, it's just a venom with two huge prows on it, why have 75% of the vehicle be doing absolutely nothing?

The Landraider is a thing of beauty. I want that more than pretty much anything else in the catalogue. I guess if you don't understand the nostalgia, it's because you weren't there when it was originally released. I had two of the old ones, now just the one which I want to restore.

I thought it would be over £100. Maybe the tear in my eye is affecting my judgement, but I can see myself saving up for one of these eventually.

You gotta love how FW is now going retro and releasing models with the look of the old eighties stuff but at five times the price...

Just like everything else retro.

I find the retro craze a bit wierd, honestly.

When your childhoood/adolescence/young adulthood goes retro you start feeling really old..

What's hilarious is the kids wearing retro gear and banging on about how original it is and that no-one has ever dressed like THIS before...

FW is blowing me away in the past year or 2... sure, a few misses as to be expected, but they certainly seem to be interested in giving the people what they want. Combine that with regular updates, sneak peaks and good customer service, and they have won me over. Expensive as hell though, but we can't pretend we don't know that going in lol!

@Ritides - I think there is also a certain value to be had for many in owning something rare to set them apart. Especially on hobby centric army projects, you always want to go that extra mile wherever you can... There is a certain prestige to FW items that is just as much a part of the sell as the models themselves at times I think.

To be fair, that's what you'll pay for an on-sprue Mk.I Land Raider on eBay.

FW is pretty consistent with their prices relative to the physical size of the kits... the Land Raider for example is similar in price to the Malcador tanks, which are similar in size. The tantalus, based on its base, size is about the same size as this new Land Raider but with more involved parts. This price is consistent, at which point you just have a problem with FW and it has little to do with the price of this specific model.

Wow, I'm a bit floored, the retro LR is a nice suprise! For someone who got into the hobby in the late 90s I have quite a lot of nostalga for the original model. Even though they were oop by the time I started playing, my very first LR was a second-hand MkI I got off a guy for $20, still have it! I'd love to see them side by side! Of course, I won't be buying one right away, but eventually!

Statistically the odds of there being millionaire space marine players is high just by virtue of the space marine fan base being that much larger. Over 60% of GW's fanbase are Space Marines players. Considering the world population and the number of millionaires in the world 1/200 people playing 40k are millionaires or in the household of a millionaire; GW's demographic focus on affluent parts of the world only heightens that likely hood.

Instead of being happy that FW decided to release the Dark Eldar Tantalus making this more than just marines... there is cup half empty and there is cup half full... and then there are those who piss in everyone's cup.

Ooooo! Now I've just realised my odds of being a millionaire have rapidly increased - I'm buying lottery tickets today!

I just went on to Forgeworld's website, how long have they had the Master of the Forge with conversion beamer figure? They also have some accessories for boarding marines which I'm not that into and some more contemptor upgrades.

I'll definitely keep an eye out for that old style land raider too, and no I'm far from being a millionaire, I just don't spend all my money on beer and the like.

$126 is a bit rich for many people, especially the kind that mock those who spend $126 on a piece of resin when your average joe goes out to get a 200 pack of beer for $126.

I guess nostalgia's worth quite a bit. I like the current Land Raider substantially more, but I've only been playing for 3 years.

I think it's because at some level we rebel against the idea that the Imperium has not developed anything in the last 10,000 years. Having different armour marks and vehicle marks adds more depth to the story by giving a sense of history. That's my take on it anyway.
