I can't believe how short the memory of this board is. Actually, I shouldn't be surprised at all. I am enjoying all of your misplaced hate. The emotional response over something so nothing, while simultaneously and easy reference to recent event events, is amusing.

And of course Jon Waters early works fell into the category, but seriously, Snow White? It was an experimental in the sense that it was a motion picture length color animation, but Experimental Cinema is an actual term, not two randomly shoved together words, and Snow White doesn't fall into the category.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Gosh Ahtman, guess I've been put in my place huh? That comment about Khazakstani film directors? That was the first place that came into my mind. It could just as easily have been Afganhistan or Italy. Or anywhere else for that matter. And it's sort of rude for you to assume that I know little or nothing about cinema, experimental (god how I disgust that turn of phrase) or otherwise.

You say that 'experimental' cinema has to be actively sought out? Well guess what, for the vast majority of people, so does Asian cinema.

Are you trying out for a reality show? It isn't about putting people in place.

But you didn't, and it was and is a strange thing to say.

Sorry, I just went by what you said and the lack of knowledge contained within. I'm sure you have some hidden knowledge that you felt it best to leave out of the discussion that topic.

Yes, becuase Netflix is so difficult to use. Twenty years ago that would have been true, and just like Experimental Cinema there were far fewer people watching it, but that is generally true of just about any foreign film. Outside New York and LA theaters that show foriegn films, art films, and older films are few and far between. I also never said that it was the only element of the thing, just one reason why. I did give another as well, but even then it isn't meant to be a comprehensive list. You, my friend, are a strawman making machine!

Would you like to define "Experimental Cinema" for us uncultured heathens then?

Maybe I am.... You know what, I'm tired of pointless disagreements over the Internet. You like Experimental cinema, I don't. That's all there is to it really....

I apologise if I came across as a 'strawman', not what I intended. I bow to your superior knowledge, go and enjoy your arthouse cinema and leave the mainstream bollocks to the rest of us, hey?

Welcome to the OT ladies and gents, the EPeens dont get much bigger then the ones around here.

I guess I can try and add a WTF movie to the list.....................uhm...............let me think here..... I remember as a youngster my parents watched a movie called Naked Lunch. It was a long time ago, and I honestly dont remember the movie at all, so it could be good for all I know, but I snuck a peek and the part I saw, was a gay love scene between an Indian boy I think, maybe asian, and some creepy rich guy. Well the rich guy turned into some freaky fething monster thing, and ended up eating the younger dude instead.....maybe he did it Mantis style I dunno, I just know it has stayed in my brain, and really fethed me up over the years

Sorry Ahtman but if you have any wtf experimental movies you've seen, you should name them - not sharing knowledge because 'we don't know/may not know' is pretty silly. If you took the time to be a little more positive and share your knowledge/experiences of these movies with people it could only be a good thing. As it is you are coming across as a little elitist - which isn't necessary.

I've just thought of another one, I'm not heavily into my anime/manga but Urotsukidōji was something else the first time I saw it. I stumbled across a VHS copy in a charity shop without knowing anything about it. I can't think of any other film which starts with a demon orgy anyway

Demon orgy? I have an anime that has one of those in it.......dammit I cant think of it right now. Uh, battle between good and evil, the earth we know and the dark place where the others live. And uh, theres a "police" force that protects us from the evil bad guys, and the main character wears a black suit, and has a cool ass gun that just blows the gak out of things. And his partner is an agent from the other side...so shes got special powers or something.

I know I probably just vaguely listed half the anime with demons in it but hey, I do what I can

Inland Empire. Like bleaching your brain, Lynch at his most overblown, it's 3 hours of weird weird gak.

My arty friends tell me it's a masterpiece, I think it's a migraine in a movie.

I think pre-teens and early teens are required to watch Legend of the Overfiend in middle school now.

Also a couple of my favorite movie quotes come from this film...

Amino Jakuo of the Ju-jin-kai gets his hand ripped off, "No big deal.... Counter-strike!"

And thsi classic from the Overfiend himself I believe...

"Delicious pu$$y AFTER 3,000 YEARS!"

Good memories man.

Weirdest film I've ever partially seen was Hausu (House) by Nobuhiko Obayashi. Absolute insanity the entire way through. It has pianos eating people and making rivers of blood flow from the drawers of a cabinet... just insane.

Death Bed: the Bed that Eats is a great one, stupid the entire way through and the director Must have realized it. Despite this though it still holds a special place in my heart as it shows the limit of filming potential, which is none.

The most inspirational for me though was Yes Man. Amazing movie that I watch with some friends at least once a month, highly recommend to Everyone ever. Say YES! to a great film

Somehow I had forgotten to put in here Kakurenbo (Hide and Seek). Very disturbing way of demonstrating a powerful message imo

So I finished Pink Flamingos and I find myself thoroughly not scarred. There were several things I'd never done in there, but the only part that was kind of shocking was what they did to the cops. Divine's mother was the creepiest part for me. I felt like it was kind of a waste of time because the story really went nowhere. This so-called Serbian Film intrigues me now. Will I feel the same after watching it?

I've seen Clockwork Orange, Pi, and Mulholland Drive.

I was too tickled by the mystical rabbi beatdown to be
disturbed by the ending of Pi.

I found reading A Clockwork Orange far more disturbing than
seeing the dudes in bowlers.

Mullholland Drive didn't really get to me until I looked some of
that symbolism up. Yikes.
