We probably do if we really wanted to spend a lot of money. One of the nice things about travelling at fractions of C is that time slows down for the person travelling. I read that if you tried to send someone to the Andromeda Galaxy (which is a mind wrenching 2.5 million light years away). Accelerating them up to (almost) the speed of light for the first half of the journey, and then decelerating them for the second half. The entire 2.5 million light year journey, would take them something in the region of 80 years, which doesn't sound at all bad.
Assuming that is true, it should be perfectly possible to reach a planet only 600 light years away, well within a human lifetime, even at slower speeds. Unfortunately for those of us stuck back here on Earth, we would have to wait about 3000 years to find out if they got there okay.
There are a few practical considerations with regards to accelerating a ship to that speed, and managing micro meteorites, keeping passengers healthy etc... But they are probably solvable with our current technology (albeit at an insane price tag).
How they would get back after discovering there is nothing there, however, is a different story.

Not quite smacks. Time slows down for a space explorer relative only to those who stayed on earth. Time still passes for them: born on a space-ship, five years later you'll be starting school. But during the five years of space-ship time a much longer duration will have passed on earth.

Good news, everyone! Today you'll be making a delivery to Kepler 22-b, a planet with such high gravity you'll most likely be crushed under the weight of your own hair.
Enjoy!

Why "not quite"?... That is exactly what I said.
My point was that because of time dilation it doesn't actually take 600 years, to complete a journey of 600 light years distance, if travelling close to the speed of light. 600 years is the time from the observers point of view. From the point of view of a space ship travelling a 99.996527% of the speed of light, the journey would take 5 years.

After my childhood. My favourites were Super Mario World and Warcraft 2. Even now I never got into WoW. I'm not into subscription video games.
Hey I've heard of that show! The only clip I saw was the one with R. Lee Ermy's cameo.

1) Does it have a molten iron core so it can have a stable magnetic field to block harmful solar radiation?
2) Does it have water?
3) Does it have an atmosphere at all? and is said atmosphere not filled with compounds toxic to life? The same goes for the surface.
The first reason is why mars presents a potential problem for colonization. Solar Radiation, even accounting for the greater distance between the sun and Mars, would be encountered in amounts that are harmful to life. All the other problems with Mars can be potentiall fixed, but not this one. Temperature can be raised by releasing all the CO2 locked in the polar ice caps, Plants can create a breathable atmosphere, but the Solar Radiation will be a problem.
In addition to this we don't even know if it is made of solid rock or liquid or even gasses. Try landing on that planet
Too small for a gasball, and a liquid surface makes it easier to land, not harder.
