This is more than likely better than the movie itself.

You have these 2 massive fleets of imposing battleships charging towards each other in the ultimate showdown, firing a few shots, something like 10 ships are lost, and then the Germans bug out. It isn't cinematic material unless they change it so the entire German navy is wiped out.
I think the famous "Death Ride" could be milked for a lot of cinematic value.

A Jutland movie would need to dramatize the people involved rather than the battle itself.

I don't have empirical proof that Liam Neeson and Rihanna aren't presently fighting an alien menace in the middle of the Pacific, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say I'm pretty sure it isn't happening.
you realize there are an astronomical amount of galaxies out there right?
Scientists have discussed this possibility here: http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2010/12/01/131730552/-trillions-of-earths-could-be-orbiting-300-sextillion-stars
Here is a quote from that website.
"There are possibly trillions of Earths orbiting these stars,"
With that possibility, it would be close-minded to think that life does not exist elsewhere.
Movies with aliens in them are fine, since there are probably some out there somewhere.

Seriously, what is this nonsense?
Yeah, obviously, because there's so many planets out there the odds of there being aliens on one of them becomes extremely likely. But that has exactly feth all to do with the idea of aliens landing in the Pacific, and building some kind of energy generating device, only to be defeated by Rihanna and Liam Neeson.
I mean, are you going to sit there, believing completely in this film about plucky action heroes and pretty girls defeating an alien menace, but say 'oh no this is just too unrealistic because it uses battleships and the last US battleship was mothballed in the 1990s'?
Seriously?

I never said anything was unrealistic. I was simply commenting on your comment. sebster wrote:There also aren't any aliens... I was illustrating the possibility of extra-terrestrial life forms. There is a good chance on one of those "Trillions of Earths" there is some form of life. Neither of us have any proof, but to say there are not any aliens is a bit short-sighted.

So you took a very literal take on my comment, ignored the context in which it was made, in order to wander off into your own little pet commentary about something that has entirely nothing to do with this stupid movie.

This is stupid and I hope nobody goes to see it (they will) and it loses money (it won't) and the dual trends of recycling anything with product name recognition into movies and churning out 2hr recruitment ads padded out with product placement both die off (they won't) Automatically Appended Next Post: If you pay money to see this terrible heap of artless garbage I hold you personally responsible when they make another one which is even worse

Only makes sense for Michael Bay to make a film about Battleships.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

He's not. There's pretty clear similarities to Bay's style, as Hasbro is pretty clearly hoping to repeat their Transformers success.
But without Bay, it means we hopefully won't get his weird baggage, and might instead end up with a slick, stupid but mostly fun action movie. But that's pretty optimistic.

The ethnic stereotypes lurking in the background making jokes and being goofy?
The strange digs at decent, human standards of behaviour?
I hope they're just Michael Bay things, but you might be right. Maybe that gak really is part of the reason people loved the hell out of those Transformers movies.
