I play 2 whirls on a regualr basis, with a hb dev squad as back up, they are super effective. I have actually though of mixing and matching one casteillien and one vengence for a test. I play mostly guard so vengence is the way to go. But a mix matched list against nids might prove beautiful. Oh and you CAN target units with minefields. In fact this might be a good discussion for a YMTC thread but can you drop them on your own units (since they dont effect friendly units) and dare a assault unit to attack you?

I've run a 3-Castellan Whirly list and used rings made from wire and sized to the large blast template.

You can not do that.

PG39 in the Marine Codex, under Castellan Missiles: "...The Castellan can target enemy units normally or be fired at an empty area so that no friendly or enemy models are under the Blast Marker..."

You can not drop it on your own troops since nothing in the BGB says that you can target your own troops with shooting.

At best you could put it infront of your squad and hope for a good scatter.

It seems to me that the minefields are just the first piece of an uberlist just waiting to suck down zero sportsmanship scores like a black hole absorbing light. What we need is some solid ways to force triggering of the minefields.

So, surely someone can come up with some more interesting ways to force movement than I have so far:

1) Fear of the Darkness. Enough said.

2) Throwaway assault units. Two words: Pile in.

3) Tank Shock.

Any more?

How do 3 mine launchers effect sportsmanship...at all ?

Round abouts

Well that involves people fearing the 3 mine launchers so much that they feel they have to compensate by degrading the opponent and his idea instead of coming up with a way around that strategy. It'll happen eventually because people get too fustrated on how devestating it can be and dont focus on ways to avoid/counteract it.

I personally dont have a problem with it and would be curious to see how it works out.

It shouldn't affect sportsmanship, which should be determined entirely by your attitude towards your opponent, at all.

It might affect comp, depending on the crowd you're playing against and how plausible the theme, if any, of your army is.

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias
