Righteo, update underway. I've made the executive decision to split this into two threads and turn the sticky into a contents page. I'll make a second thread soon specifically for introducing beginners. It'll be a FAQ/Q&A/Introduction type thread and I think there will be enough traffic to keep it bobbing around. The link to it will stay at the top of the contents page too to divert new players that come here first.

I made this call partly because this thread had a bit of weird duel purpose that wasn't working for me and partly because a beginners thread deserves it's own space to stretch out in. Plus, people rarely look at stickies when they are just passing through so the introduction thread will get more use if it's floating out there. I don't think it'll put people off posting the standard, 'help me, I'm a new player' threads but it'll help inform them and attract random questions and chatter. Probably one of those threads that gets rather larger than anticipated like the Terrain thread.

So yeh, in progress but not finished. About time I pulled ny finger out and did this update I've been promising for so long!

Ohh good I wasn't imagining that this thread used to have beginners stuff in it. Look forward to you reposting those resources.

You prompted me to make some more progress. Well it was you and the fact I went out to get superglue and came back with beer and apples.

Either way we have progress here and I've started working on the new beginners thread. It's bare bones currently but I'm aiming for a much more extensive version that the one that used to be crushed into here.

Beasts of War are currently doing some features on starting Infinity, documented by someone getting into the game themselves and the things they are discovering.

Well worth reading!

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

A Casey on Beasts of War (same Casey that started this thread and posts on Dakka?) has been doing a series of articles on that website. They've been very informative and worth reading, but among them this is probably one of the best (and most concise) started guides I have yet seen.

Think this definitely needs pride of place on the front page of this thread!

IIRC there was a thread around here that had a list of minature manufacturers that would work as substitutes for infinity models. Or just shared the same general aesthetic. Its kind of like the terrain catalogue that is linked in here. Does anyone know where that got to and could it also be linked in here?

Cheers
Rahx

OK I found it, it wasn't under infinity at all... and I had bookmarked it... well this was the page anyway: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/373197.page

Hey, Aaron from Pod 6. Just wanted to mention our iOS squad builder for Infinity. We think it's a pretty good way to point out your army and reference the rules as you play. Hopefully readers here will find it a helpful resource for getting into Infinity.

You can download it free from this link: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id640441223

Ops - Infinity Edition, a squad builder for Infinity, is now available. Check it out on http://www.pod6.net/opsinfinity.htm

Ok so if anyone has been following my thread about the official forum closure occurring soon you will have noticed that myself and Revenent ReikoMade are going to be attempting to take the information we have in this thread and formatting it into a proper Dakka article.

So far besides the taticak we have copied from CB I have only gained permission so far to copy Neoterras which we did not have previously.

This series of articles is not something Revenent or myself own they will belong to Dakka and anyone can help maintain and edit them and I would like it to be a living database of useful information for all the new Infinity players we seem to be drawing in as of late.

If you would like to help with the formatting or have some tactical insight into the game you think would make a great article feel free to let us know.

For know I think striving for a General game over view that links into Faction/Unit over views should be the short term goal.

Thanks for compiling this list. I am sure it's going to be a great help to me over the next few days, while I try to work out what models I got in the trade and how to make a force with what I have.

Could someone answer a question for me. Can you use the mushasi miniature with any faction?

Musashi is a mercenary so in a conventional army (that is an ITS one) you would only be able to use him in a Japanese sectorial army from yu jing.

You can just include him in any army if you want but it wouldn't be 'legitimate' as an ITS army. There's nothing to stop you from doing so if the opponent is okay with it. But for pick up games or tournaments its often easier to keep with ITS boundaries, its kinda like in warhammer. You don't have to keep to the force organisation chart but everyone does

That's a shame. Thanks for the information though. I would rather at least for now stick to models everyone would be happy to play against.

So when the infinityarmy builder lets me pick mercenaries and stuff in a vanilla list, it's just being a completionist and not actually giving me something I can walk into a pickup game with and not get some glares? Bummer, I would totally buy yojimbo and mushashi if I could legally take them for nomads or the like.

I believe he belongs to Corregidor which is the "normal" or "working class" nomad faction. They basically get by on hard work and hire out as mercs a lot. The auglacilles and mobile brigada (in ice storm) are Corregidor. They also get access to both the Iguana *and* Gekkos, so it is only a matter of time before I end up getting some more of them...

That's good news considering the corrigator are my one of my favourite of the starter packs.

Yeah it's 'a really neat starter, I may have to get one myself sometime, would give me just enough corregidor after ice storm (plus a random moran hunter) for them to go off on their own.

Probably a stupid question but has anyone had the following issue on the official site: In the miniatures section, upon selecting the miniature I would like to view in more detail the page loads perfectly except that it entirely misses the main images of the miniature(s)?

And I'm doing some serious Dakka catch up right now which will eventually bring me back here and we can talk about bringing these threads up to date!

[b]Actually it's maybe because I've tethered my mobile network and it's rejecting such a large image?[b/]
