Sitting on the roof of my house with a shotgun, and a six pack of beers

I've gone for indifferent as i'm not really sure where I stand.

I like the fact a lot of people have also noticed the funny in orks is only skin deep and that if you actually stop and think they are quite horrific. In sonme ways the humour makes them that much more horrific.

I mean turning someone into a squig at first seem quite humourous but if you actually stop and think about it bing changed at a genetic level has got to be hugely painful.

I can see why some people don't think the mesh well with the current grim dark, but I don't think I would want to see them change.

I love the Ciaphis Caine books and I love the Grimdark, if orks ever seem too silly to me i just peel back the outer layer an actually look at what they are doing, but I don't think 40k can really take itself too seriously. I mean the GK's have orangutans working for them.

I do hate ramshackkle though, just explode you

I love Ork fluff just the way it is... As has been said, they are silly on the face of things, but if you were a guardsman staring down at an oncoming green tide, you would need a new pair of pants...
Possibly several new pairs of pants

The fluff in Xenology is also interesting, and paints them to be far far different from Orcs in any other setting I've heard of. Orcs are generally shown to be almost human-like, albeit green and with pointier teeth. But in 40k Orks are really something far darker. Genetic memory is very interesting. Meks born with complete instinctive knowledge of everything they may need to build, they don't need to learn, they don't even need to obey the laws of physics! They just build it and it will work. The absurd comedy is really a veneer to hide a far darker more threatening core.

As a side note - Morathi - You've reminded me that I need to get myself a copy of Deff Sqwadron. I've read it but don't have my own copy. This must be rectified!

Orks are fun and quirky. If I wanted an army that was consistent and didn't almost require you to think outside the box I'd play guard. The randomness of Orks goes hand in hand with the idea of a dice game. Playing Orks you have to accept that sometimes your dice will flat out fail. Lootas, you can go all game and roll 1's for the number of shots. Trying to save on a 6+ the majority of the time in combat? You almost accept you will remove handfuls of painted models.

I love the ork mentality. I love watching MEQ players cringe on failing power armor or terminator saves. I love smiling when I pass 6 T-Shirt saves and punch back with a power klaw. Having a ramshackle trukk fling a squad further at an opponent, when an opponent does damage to it The Shokk attack gun makes serious opponent cringe and throws them off their game just when you deploy let alone attempt to shoot it. If they removed all that and made the 100% serious. There would be no reason to play Orks.

Orks are funny in an "Orky" way. Not everyone is going to get it. I kind of think it's like how someone finds the Joker from "The Dark Knight" is funny. It's not that the Joker is funny, but when you see him walking away from that exploding hospital in the nurse uniform you can't help but chuckle and think "That's SO Joker, hehe".

I think that if Orks entered our reality we wouldn't think they're very funny lol.

They aren't from the view of Imperial Citizens either, like in Space Marine you get to hear the Citizens commentary on the "Hilarious" antics of the orks, like being crushed and killed before family members as they are begging for their lives, as the orks laugh all the way.

That's how it should be though, from the Ork prospective (and when you're playing them) It's a laugh riot, you've got orks strapping on rokkits just to speed themselves up and doing all sorts of hairbrained things that sound hilarious, like hiding in lava, but they are still very grimdark, as when you're not playing them, they are ugly, brutish monsters who are out for killing and fighting.

They are still grim-dark, but at the same time all that matters for them is a matter of prospective.
