Guess i'll just suck it up and admit it like a man...

I started GK purely out of "Flavor of the month vibe." *Ducks thrown stones and rotten tomatoes*

I saw two-wound terminators, a flashy paint scheme and zany henchmen units, and wasted money going out and buying the codex, paladins, and wyches and LOTR easterlings to be truned into DCA and crusaders, respectively. I wasted a ton of time salivating over them, until i looked at all my unpainted orks and thought "By Gork... What have i done?! Forgive me!" And now i'm trying to figure out how to get rid of them..

The Finecast Hive Tyrant I bought two weeks before the cheaper, more versatile plastic one came out.

The Anphelion Project book. Updates to Forge World Tyranids have subsequently been spread out among two books, each costing $50.

"If you really want to know what it was like, to fight in the air in the great War, then go up to someone you have never met and who has never done you the slightest harm and pour a two-gallon tin of petrol over them. Then apply a match, and when they are nicely ablaze, push them from a fifteenth-floor window after first perhaps shooting them a few times in the back with a revolver. And be aware as you are doing these things that ten seconds later someone else will quite probably do them to you. This will exactly reproduce... the substance of First World War aerial combat and will cost your country nothing. It will also avoid the necessity of ten million other people to die in order for you to enjoy it."

After picking up the CSM Battleforce I decided I wanted to make a nice little scenery piece from the Rhino (a bunker or something). After altering the poor Rhino beyond recovery I realized I actually needed it.

Tyranid battleforce. The color scheme I had thought up was already done and in comparison, mine looked pug-ugly. Sold it mostly unpainted and unassembled. Got actually more money for it than I originally bought it on, so it wasn't a complete waste.

Doesn't sound like a waste at all. More like an investment

Built an entire Harlequins army round the time 3rd edition came out, with 5 squads of 10 infantry, a squad of jetbikes, transports and characters.

Being an army without an actual codex, it hasn't seen much action and has been sitting in the display case ever since.

I enjoyed very much building/painting it though, so not an entire waste. I still remember the mail order guy's voice when I asked for 50 harlequins...

My entire GW collection. I think am about 1 for 100. I have won I think one game between both my Tau (now retired) and my Space Marines. I apparently absolutely suck at this game. I mean for f***s sake I lost to a guy playing for only the second time ever!

Having a competitive nature and sucking at competition really sucks.

At least some of my models are decent to look at.....

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

I was going to post something cutting and original like "I regret nothing!" but then I started to really think about it. And I really don't regret anything... except the 5th set of Necromunda terrain. I know it's a strange thing to say, but when I first discovered what eBay could do I went wild, getting hold of additional Necromunda sets because I could (I had one, and knew games were better with 2... so 5 would be awesome!).

But it wasn't. It's the one time - and this is from a guy who has 30 Leman Russes and now almost every army in the game - where I've actually taken a step back and gone "Nope. This is too much. I've overstepped here.". It's relatively minor overall, I know that, but it always sticks in my mind as the one thing I bought when I should have stopped.

Biggest waste?
Was moving about alot and had no internet, so while in a GW one day i started a vampire counts army.

Grabbed the book and around 1,500 points.
2 weeks later the new vamps were released -_-

However, i tend to buy alot of random models i like and base an army around them, i do however have a nice selection of armies to play if i ever get bored though

Other than that, my flashgitz.
I knew they were bad, but after putting around 100 hours plus countless parts into building them i found out they were worse than just bad.
To counter the above though, i did the same with my tank bustas, and they have been a godsend.

Warmachine.

My buddy convinced me to play, so I went and bought the rules and $300 worth of models.
He divorced his wife, and then stopped playing games altogether. We never even got to play a game once.

Years later, those $300 of Khador models found their way into the garbage can.
To this day, I'm still hesitant on buying warmachine models.

You don't even need to magnetize them! Just glue the two Rhino doors together and you can easily swap that and the Razorback hatch back and forth.
Pretty much. The only reason I've picked up any Rhinos is if I was able to get them on the cheap on Ebay and because I need at least ten.

However, with some clever magnetizing, you can swap the weapons in and out of the mount and use both the lascannons and the heavy bolters (technically the Assault Cannons from the LRC if you're especially industrious and don't use the LRC in every game).

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

Back in 2005 I decided to start Kislev army for Storm of Chaos, some:
40 Winged lancers
60 Kossars
30 Horse Archers
2 Ice Queens
2 Tzar on Bear
2 Mordheim Kislev warbands for characters and war machine crews
Of all that I have only assembled and painted one unit. The rest sits in a box collecting dust. I pull them out every 6 months or so and them put them away again. A lot of money tied up in them, but I can’t bring myself to sell them. Can’t let it go, but can’t get inspired to do anything with it.

I don't consider any of my purchases wasted as I get much more fun from the assembly and painting of the army than I do actually playing it. So if I buy a unit and it never sees the table top, I still don't consider it wasted. Also everything I've bought can go into one of my existing armies if the need has ever came up, so its not like I have a single box of guard sitting around.

With one exception.

At one point I was going to make a really cool dueling diorama between a Fantasy griffin rider and a dragon rider. Got all the parts, but never went anywhere with it. Since then the wings on both have been canabilized into other projects and I'm missing parts from both the riders somehow.

See pics of my Orks, Tau, Emperor's Children, Necrons, Space Wolves, and Dark Eldar here:
