Hello, and sorry for taking so long to get these pictures to you! I had to revise the design of the gun to fit the handheld lasguns. It took me a while to get it right, but in the end it looks even better than the original "fast and simple" design. I believe that the plasma coil being further away from the puny guardsman will give me better luck with the "Gets Hot!"...

To build these "new" plasmaguns, I first chopped off the space marine's hand holding the plasma pistol, and then cut the rear end of the pistol from the end of the plasma coil. Then I measured with my eyes (with the help of the cut plasma pistol) the right place to "saw off" the lasgun (approximately I cut off less than a half of the skull's right wing). After that I made a cut right at the bottom of the elevated part of the lasgun (take that little nub off also) and cut it nearly all the way down, and the made another horizontal cut to make a hole where to insert the remains of the plasma pistol. Superglue recommended.

The cuts may need some careful fixing to get the new barrel fit right, so a small file may come in handy. I'm also going to use some green stuff to fill the gaps to give them a cleaner look.

Cheers, and happy plasma-building!

The original design, very easy and fast to build.

The new design, slightly more complicated to build but looks better.

In case the previous picture doesn't show the structure well enough.

Thanks for the positive feedback! Hopefully others find this helpful and easy enough to do. And on that note, if someone feels lost with my instructions on how to build those, I can post a tutorial with pictures also. A few spare plasmas won't do harm for a footguard player like me. And if I ever decide to add yet another platoon to my army, I'll need to do 5 more of these guys anyway.

Yeow! That is an awesome and BASIC guide. I like simple. Simple means I will try it. And simple means I will probably succeed. That is important.

Thats a pretty neat conversion mara. Kinda hard to do though unless you have an inordinate amount of spare plasma pistols.

I've also been working on an updated version of my plasma gun. I'll post it when i get around to finishing it off.

I would go with a guitar wire for the tubing on the melta gun. but still, pretty good. I do like the melta gun for sure. Just worryed that the GS hose will snap off.

Great job on the plasma gun Mk II. I absolutely love it! Gives you something to do with the wasted stock from the lasguns I turned into sniper rifles!

Another experienced modeler, even the 'trash' isn't thrown away. I salute you sir!

Very good work on the plasma guns, I definitely will have to make a few of these. My problem is the same as some others...no handy supply of plasma pistols.

This thread is very helpful, and has inspired me to pitch in to help with power weapon options primarily the Power maul.

It is a test, I'll make a how to tomorrow, but it requires no green stuff, just a hobby knife, cutters, saw and glue and maybe half hour (but I go slow and had to search the floor for the head)

Probably work

Jex, I honestly want to build one of those and put an axe-head on it. I'd never thought of shaving the teeth off of a chainsword though. Good inspiration.

Funny you mention the Power Axe, because I do have something planned to turn the maul into an Axe without more work (if only a single extra step to follow)

Just got back home, so got to eat and such then I'll do the step-by-step instructions for the power maul and power Axe; Power sword requires more filing to make the chainsword's body more 'coney' and give it a sword shape.

I like that maul Jex. The two little spikes on the backside do it for me. Club someone, then gouge their eyes out.

Making alternate power weapons wasn't something i'd thought of. Mostly because i wonder how many people would be equipting cannon fodder with expensive CCWs. But now i think i might just take a swing at it myself.

Well, this is bad. I had pictures and everything, but they all turned out blurry. Even the blurry one here was the least blurry of them. I should have checked, but they looked good in the camera's quick view option.

You'll need:
Utility/hobby knife
Hobby cutters
Hobby saw
Files
Plastic glue
Cadian Shock Troop Box, specifically, the Sergeant's arm with the chainsword (Power Maul) and include lasgun F, G or H OR one loose bayonet from the Cadian Heavy Weapons Squad for a Power Axe
20, 30 minutes of your time, maybe more/less depending on skills.

Keep in mind that I wear glasses, so plastic bits flying off don't really bother me, but just in case, wear goggles.

Spoiler:

1-Remove the bur off the chainsword, it makes it look better.
2- Using your utility knife, begin by slowly cutting the chainsword's teeth from the frame. Make it one, long cut so that you end up with a joint 'chain' that can double as a mouth for a comical chainsword (or a possessed one)

After that's removed, file or cut away with the knife what's left on the frame until it's all nice and even.

3-After that's done, take your saw and cut straight down where the chain was, down into the frame, but do not cut pass the engine block. Going lower might fragilise the hand guard. Put the saw flat where the chain blade was when you cut. Also, you can lean on the slump of the frame to cut perpendicular so you'll end up with a more squared piece to file. File and make sure that everything is even.

4-Next take your cutter and cut off the engine's exhaust, using files and knife to smooth the surface, then remove the air intake fins on top by scraping it with your knife and using your saw, again using the frame as guide to make everything straight and even.

5-With the knife, cut a straight line right behind the notches on the frame, go around the frame as well, taking care that the cut is even, as it may filing way easier. After a dozen turn, you can just chop it down- just make sure you got your hand close, as it might fly off. File both the top of the frame and the back of the bit you got.

6-Glue everything together. The hammer head can be glued either direction, I just find that a flat even top makes for a better maul. I chop off 2 teeth from the chain and glue it at the back for added looks.

POWER AXE EXTRA STEPS
7- Chop off the blade off the bayonet of your lasgun. As you get 10 lasguns in a box, and the Sarge never gets one, there's always one left, so make sure it's a bayoneted one so you can have it.

8- Cut at a 45 degree angle, the back of the blade's body ( as in, the part of the blade that is not the sharp, slicing part) and glue it to the maul's hammer and voilĂ , instant Power Axe.

It is fragile, so perhaps cutting a notch in the hammer head before might help to hold in place, or at least make a spot glue can harden and weld it into place.
