I don't really mind the quality of my miniatures to be honest.
I took a badly painted Ork into college just to show the guys. I thought it was good and so did they.
Right now, I'm going over them with different paints, heck, I didn't even have a white/grey/yellow for their teeth so I left them black at the time.
Then again, someone could have amazingly painted models on the field but it doesn't mean that a badly painted model can't kill it, eh?
Slightly off topic but I'm going to the gym right now and some of the people there are really in shape and then there's me struggling to run 5 minutes going 5.5 mph, but I know that I will improve. Heck, I need to improve if I want to get the job I want!

Kain, are those really your models? I'm not trying to be a dick, I just want to know if they're really your paint jobs.

No I cribbed them off 1d4chan which has this weird code that breaks hotlinks.

I painted about 1200 pts of marines before I even went to play. I thought I needed to have stuff painted in order to play. Who knew? Once I saw what was at the tables at the local shops I felt pretty good about my stuff. Peoe were playing all kind of proxies and even stuff without heads and arms! Having a painted army made me look like some kind of painting wizard.
I am fairly happy with my results but I learn more each mini I finish. I like the painting/modeling part of the hobby probably better than the game part. Even if it is not great it gives me something to do on rainy or cold Saturday afternoons.
Here is a link to my Dakkadakka gallery. This represent about a years worth of painting ( not everything is pictured). I have never painted minis before I started 40k.

I view my painting skills as "okay", nothing to write home about, but good enough for the table top. I have a few models that I'm particularly proud of, usually because I either really like the model or like the unit as a whole. For example, my tactical marines are "Meh", but I was really pleased with how Lysander and my Sternguard turned out.
The problem is, I've been really slow with my Marines simply because they a total bore to paint. The basic marine has no texture at all, and while I love the overall look of a Crimson Fist army, all that blue can get tedious.
Enter Chaos Daemons. I've cranked out a lot of daemons in a relatively short time. They look "okay" for the rank and file, but I spend a little extra time on the big daemons, and the Soulgrinder has taken me forever to paint. I got the daemon part finished in no time to a pretty good standard, but the mechanical part (ie, the boring part) is taking forever just because I find myself not wanting to paint.

I am very good at sketching, drawing.. anything with a pencil for the most part, then I try painting.. it sucks.. I suck...
And because I am decent with a pencil my standards are way to high for me to be painting..
So I haven't painted many of my own models because I hate it..

My paint skills are pretty average, but I take pride in making an army uniquely mine with its paint/design. Sure someone else might have the best painted ultramarines ever, but my armies are one of a kind.
