I see that, but also see technicals like some of the warlords had in Somalia, and we even saw Talibs and NA with early in Afghanistan.

I wouldn't buy them, but I definitely like them. They don't have the same crossover potential to scales I'd be more inclined to play, but I like the GLA look.

Really like this start up set, just wish they did PHR as I really like that army, and also wish my gaming group would pick this game up as well :/

Looks like DZC is moving in the right direction! Although it's hard to see how a non air mobile army like the resistance can thrive against the super high tech feel of the other armies.

Maybe they can't. Maybe the Resistance only gets involved when the fighting comes to them, rather than going out and invading other planets themselves. What percentage of an army's points is usually spent on dropships? If the Resistance gets to ignore the usual "everybody flies" rule, that could be a significant mitigating factor.

I sent Hawk Wargames an email asking about making the sprues available separately and whether the PHR and Shaltari will be getting their own, so hopefully I'll have an answer for everyone when they get back later this week.

I'm not familiar with the game. Does the number of figures on an infantry base make a difference? If not, could you spread the provided troops across more bases to give that extra APC some passengers?

It's not that simple. Every transport in DzC has to start the game fully loaded, which means that even if you spread the guys out to get the 3rd APC loaded up, that APC then needs to share a Dropship with a 4th APC.

Alternatively the 3rd APC could drive on instead of being dropped, but it would move so slowly (first turn move would be 3" measured from board edge, then 6" move each turn) that it's possible the infantry being carred inside would never do anything useful. That all depends on scenario of course, in some cases it could actually be a decent idea. Oh, and there are some Force Org charts you have to adhere to as well. Don't have access to those right now but I think it should be okay, even if you have to make a 2nd Infantry battlegroup.

A better idea for that 3rd APC (from the UCM side) is to make a boxy trailer and get yourself a free Kodiak:

That looks pretty cool. From a quick google search, it appears it gives you some orbital strikes. Does it do anything else with that giant radar/comm dish like make some guns AA that aren't?

I got a reply back from Hawk Wargames. Unfortunately, neither separate sprues nor the other faction sprues are coming any time soon, but the latter sounds more solid a possibility than the former:

Hawk Wargames wrote:1. These sprues will only be available as part of the starter set, we may look to break them out in the future but not for some time.
2. We want to give all the races a plastic starter set in the future, however due to the large upfront cost of these we wont be able to do this for the remaining (and future) races for some time.

Hawk have been running some teaser pics for their 4th wave of releases (large images so spoilered):

Spoiler:

Looks like some sort of UCM smoothbore cannon tank for building demolition

Spoiler:

Scourge vehicle, probably an alternative scout walker that shoots

Spoiler:

Shaltari warstrider, looks a bit flatter than regilar ones, with some sort of bulky gun on top

Spoiler:

PHR skimmer, possibly AA given the angle of its top bit

Spoiler:

Looks like a UCM medium dropship with its transport capacity replaced by missile pods

Spoiler:

Could be a new Scourge flyer, the weapon under the chin is AA

Spoiler:

Shaltari heavy grav tank probably

Spoiler:

Small sized flyer for the PHR, maybe an unmanned scout

Spoiler:

Light UCM tank with a flamethrower

Spoiler:

Another Sourge walker

Spoiler:

Shaltari light walker with AA

Spoiler:

PHR skimmer variant, looks like smoothbore gun

Ah, thanks for the info. I'm not in any hurry to get started with this game so will wait until the Shaltari get their sprues.

They do know they could probably raise $1m+ with ease and hard plastic the entire mini range just by doing a kickstarter right?

At this point we're very, very confident about the company.. everything they do oozes high quality, and that tends to be the way to go if you want to have a chance on kickstarter. Talked to them at the Mantic open day and they seem to really know their stuff. Even the resin is flexible rather than breakable which is nice. Got a free card terrain sample which is pretty awesome in terms of being flatpack terrain that is actually flatpack in a useful sense, it can be taken to a game folded up next to the rulebook. They have really properly thought through every practical aspect of playing the game, and with Epic now OOP...

I'm at the point where there's still no way I'm paying for an all-resin shaltari force, but would happily throw a ton at a kickstarter that offered hard plastic (pretty much any KS that offered that material is very enticing, simply because most companies don't bother).

DzC will never be a replacement for Epic, if your reason for wanting to play is something to scratch the Epic itch, you'll be disappointed. Dave Lewis said in an interview he didn't enjoy Epic (don't remember him saying which version) and was conciously trying to make DzC a very different game.

IF they did a KS they'd have to be prepared to expand their working operation since they'd still have regular orders to deliver whilst at the same time producing a huge bulk of models for the KS.

KS is great for getting started, but at this point in Hawk Wargames life they likely couldn't take the massive bulk of a KS order without either pulling regular distribution or expanding their working team (And that's always a risk in the long term since you don't want to end up with a company too big to fund itself).

They could certainly do very well off a KS - model companies with quality miniatures in the hands of players always do very well when running a KS and it could be a huge boost to their active player and customer base.

Those new releases look awesome. Given that this is an advent calendar thing, I am led to believe that they have 24 new models. If this is so, it is truly impressive.

A kickstarter would certainly make the plastic people happy. However, if you have seen the resins, they are very nice. I am not really a plastic person, so I am biased, but the resins for this line are really good. The ones that I have are not difficult to assemble and barely had any mold lines at all.

The wave 4 models look great! And please, no Kickstarter, they've done well without it... carried by my local store, unlike many Kickstarter'ed projects. I'd back it, but at this point I don't think they need it. Hopefully they can traditionally fund a plastic starter for the other two races at some point.

Agreed.

I hate KS now these days, at first it was a way of helping new company's get started, but now its same big company's selling a game just like pre-ordering a video game, where if you pay a certain amount you get exclusive extra that no one will get.

The problem is that while this can work for video games, as its just a few extras that you can use, it doesn't work well in Tabletop standards imo.

This annoys me as I don't want to feel pressured into buying something and find this method greedy, if I invest in something like a KS I want everyone to buy the whole range not just the general range and then some exclusive's that will never be sold again that im investing in.

So I hope they keep to the traditional way of selling things

I'd have mixed feelings about a kickstarer, the main benefit seems to me to be the extra promotion they seem to create, as most of them are just used as a mass pre order system than anything else. Either way i think hawk should go far, Dave is crazy passionate about is product and it has to be my favourite game at the moment.

I am very excited about the plastic sprues coming out. I wish there were a way just to buy the plastic minis without subsidizing terrain, rules or dice. I'd buy these ships just for the pew-pews.

The images are on their facebook page. They are not pics of the models, but are rather computer renders. The new pics show the entire model, rather than a closeup of one section.

I'm not being a particularly good news source, am I?

I've updated my previous post on the subject with the remainder of the teasers, and started updating the OP with the proper preview images and Hawk's brief description of what they are.

Massive amount of awesome pics on the Hawk Wargames facebook page. Seriously, this is a ton of new units! I am very excited

So that I can run an all-walker Shaltari force (light walkers for Standard slot, and probably Support when armed with AA):

PHR gets a skimmer!

And Scourge gets a walker, what's the world coming to
