my local tau player uses a riptide with the big plasma gun with the commander that gives him twin-linked, ignores cover, and monster/tank hunter (which in my opinion but it is a dickish move as well) he also uses the rocket broadside unit with full drones so he lays down 36 rocket shots each turn with makerlights...he played the local store manager and he goes 5-6 years without losing a game. so the tau player took 3 riptides with FNP and 2 of those broadside units and also just to be safe he took a skysheild so they have a 4+ invulnerable save. the store manager played tyrinids and he won but just barely. he was describing it as a stressful and was sweating most of the game.

and he took this lost in a tournament and got to second place(lost to grey knights with draigo and 10 paladins, 10 average joes and storm talon as well as 2 dreadknights) so i know tau aren't unbeatable but... goddamn playing them seems so hopeless for me against most other armies i can hold out but against tau by turn 3 most of my army is dead and i give up because whats the point of sticking around for a massacre of you're army. and i have all armies except tau because im afraid id turn into a dick player...i like playing fun

You got any better reason orks fight?

or you could burn to death of plasma guns, flamers, or getting hurled into the sun

Hmm... well I have played Tau a long time. As I had to learn Tau with an entirely inferior toolbag, you can imagine the success one has now updated. Good generals are the only ones who could play Tau and win. So often, playing against experienced long term Tau players will always be up hill. They're usually good. But their are definite achilles heels.

here's my suggestion. Plan to attack LD. Be intentional in your list in this regard. Its effective against nearly every army. Also, take massed ap2 in whatever unit you can manage. Nothinh in the game likes it. And take barrage weaponry. Tau hate it. No one likes it and it solves a lot of problems like the good Baron Sathonyx. Their best units are FAR FROM INEXPENSIVE so remember that tank shocks are good against those . And think of a way around cover. Barrage and psykers have tools for it.

Tau aren't the boogeyman.

As daemons I have a fun time fighting Tau the games are usually good. Fast moving hard hitting units that can get into CC do really well. Hounds come to mind.
