Thanks for the feedback on my Infinity project. Got me thinking about just using the Tech-Bee as a diorama piece for now

This project is great. I'm in dire need of some new terrain and you have a lot of good ideas in here. Already scavenging recyclables for potential terrain pieces thanks to you

Also fantastic work crafting those vehicles. I need to try that.

No problem. Glad to help.

Vehicles are a fun thing to build, but take as much time, if not more, than buildings, at least for me. Now I just need to start converting the ones I have into Infinity usable stuff. I'll get there.

I managed to snag a little building time. First chance in nearly a month. I'm calling this the Quinfinity hut. I started it last year, but tossed it into the WIP bucket because I had no idea how I wanted to finish it. Now I do
The photos from before:

The current progress. I'm using ideas from the Hab modules. This will join the set, and I can make a nice themed table with it and a few other pieces.

It needs more detail of course, and a few other things, but any step in the right direction is progress, no matter how small.

Thanks for stopping by.

I like the hex tiling, that's a good look.

The front is looking a bit wattle and daub at the moment, just don't paint it black and white...

Well Littletower, it was seeing your contest entry that reminded me I had this thing lying around. And needed to finish it. I blocked out three or 4 about this time last year. Then promptly started up my big bourak building.

Wattle and Daub. Lol. Good one. Everything will be painted to match the hab modules.

Nice work on the quinfinity but. I love the look of infinity, I just can't even think about another game system. But I love the look of the yu jing, especially the monks.

The hayloft if the farmhouse set gives me worries though. I busted my head open as a kid (3 times actually, explains a lot) while at a cousins house. We were swinging out the hayloft into a huge pile of hay. Somewhere along the lines we got the idea to see who could swing out the farthest. I didn't win, but I did get too far out and let go at the wrong time. A few dozen stitches later and I was up for round two, but that was ixnayed by the families.

So, I'm just going to leave this here....

First piece of Royal Mail I've ever received. Thank You very much Cam. It is a great supply drop. And you do know how hard it is to get milliput in the US? We end up using Apoxie-sculpt-- which is good stuff too. (Plasticine is another one. Sculpey or Fimo are the equivalents.) I think the sheet of rivets may see more use as buttons and lights on consoles, and entry lock pads etc... But I'll be sure to to do rivetting with them The little 'gems' can be backlight for a really nifty effect I think. This was way more than I expected for 2nd place. I salute you and your generosity, sir.

Now, yeah, I know, get to work, I've got terrain to build

would it have hurt to invite me to this party?...argh... your thread is literally amazing... I just had a quick quasi orgasm rollthrough through your thread...which left me with the decision that I need to reread it completely now...and take LOTS of notes to now my next to do list(s)...there is so much stuff that I want for my own... your a cornucopia of inspiration and ideas and ways to get there...I am literally floored...

I think I will show this thread in it´s entirety tomorrow to my wife...(feel knighted...)

Thanks Guys.
Barzam, I probably spend way more money buying the tools than I ever would if I just bought the terrain directly. But I have way more fun this way.

April was a brutal month. I accomplished so little. But I finished, for the most part the quinfinity hut, now I just need to paint it. Maybe add a few details-- some vent either on the side or roof, and some sort of external utility box I think. There is actual 'glass' in the windows but it doesn't show in the photo. A widow's walk perhaps?

Also made a small catwalk/bridge to connect the hab units. Might make 1 more, but more like a breezeway. and another 'utility box' for scatter seen above and below.

Just need to do some painting. I'll worry about finishing details like signage when I think the building is done (Ie. I have built a 4x4 table''s worth of stuff) So I can get a unified look.

But onto something more interesting.

I've decided I don't like having it on the hill like this, so I am going to put it on a terrace and balance it out with another building.
(and just noticing how small the mini looks. I think of this as a small building too. In scale it is. People build way too small IMHO)

The plan is to transform the pink foam into a terrace for the 2 buildings. second building will be like the first, although I want a split level to it. And of course a dome. Same as first building or something else? like

or

or

which is stepped and ogival

Thanks guys. The hab module set is becoming a nice pick up and put down sort of project. But, no thoughts on domes?

Anyway, this from LittleTower's thread:

what I would like to know, how do you create the templates to create these curves? that is exactly why I still haven´t went from blocky to curved builds, I can´t figure out how to create surfaces that fit the needed space the way you two (red harvest and LT) do...be sure of my envy

I too would like to know this.

Here is something basic. Make a form out of something-- here you see I used cardstock from food packaging. Pre-curve the material. In this case, it is poster board. (that's what the copper pipe is for, sort of like a rolling pin. for plasticard I would use heat.) Press the material onto the form and then glue a second layer of material onto it. Then a third. This is usually enough to ensure that the material holds the shape . Add additional layers until you have the desired thickness.

Making the form is fairly straightforward. And you can use any sorts of materials for it. And if you treat these things as parts, you can build something bigger. Spoilered in case you have inner ear/balance/vertigo problems.
Spoiler:

The trick with paper is to figure out which direction it wants to curve. Try it sometime with a piece of cardstock. It will flex easily in one direction but not in the perpendicular direction. I don't think plasticard has this directionality.

You could also use the form as part of the piece itself:

and voila, a dome is born. This incidentally, is pretty much how I created the form shown in the first photo montage.

Hope this helps.

By the foot of the Andes

Great walk-through

Just to add a bit, cardboard can be moistened (lightly) while shaping it over the matrix, both to help the moulding (especially with complex curves) and preserving the new shape once dry.

Plastic, on the other hand, will mostly self-support itself in the given shape after heat-forming.

Oh yes. I think a matching dome would be best for buildings that are that close and part of the same complex.

I know how you do it, but it still looks like magic to me. I'll have to give it a go one day.

No magic Doc, just glue. I think you are correct, matching domes. Thanks for the input. I'm thinking to make it internally accessible too , for playability.

Thanks Littletower. For moistening, just use a slightly damp sponge, or even a piece of foam like that which comes with the minis (if they still include that with GW stuff.)

Awesome find Ruglud. It will take me a while to soak it all in. Perfect futuristic stuff

I wonder if this guy (Bugbait-nz, used to be, and still could be at WhineWarseer. Haven't looked at that forum in 5 years...) has seen it too. Scroll down to post #229 and #234, if the link doesn't work right.

Although, If one used large domes, say 20-30 cm in diameter, interior access is possible...

But for crazy domed stuff, see the Nevsky cathedral in Sofia Bulgaria http://www.sofia-guide.com/assets/800px-AlexanderNevskyCathedral.jpg If I can ever figure out how to make the interior accessible I would like to build something inspired by that.

So to continue my scatter shot approach I've re-started another building. This is what it was going to be like

I decided that I really did not like the roof. I was going for another rooftop garden sort of thing, but meh, not this way. So, I've worked on a bit of a change...

I will put a dome on it... of course. Those are more or less one of the unifying features for this table. I'll see about working in some sort of greenery or tile or water once I finish the dome.
