Really? Looks kinda crappy to me. I expected better, the 'nid range is pretty awesome overall.

I like a lot about it but the face seems weird. Is it that it doesn't have the teardrop shaped eyes?

If the rules suck I'm using it as a base for a dimachaeron as that looks loads nicer.

I don't like the look of it. Combined with the awful rules it currently has, I'm not going to shell out for it.

I think it looks awesome; just hope it's worth taking.

Its head makes me want plastic lictors even more than I already did, though.

regarding the new "wrath of" army box, its not a bad buy. in USD its 160 for ~190 worth of models. so close to 20% off retail of buying the models separately. Much better than the DE deal which is $3 USD less than buying them all separately.

The tentacles remind me of the helbrute tentacles, I like the face tho.

Plastic Lictors are easy: Warrior body, Genestealer tentacle-face head, and smaller Carnifex scything talons, and BAM! There you go

(one I made a few years ago)

I'd say I'd love to see a GW plastic Lictor kit proper, but it would surely be so obscenely priced ($50 for two?) that I would not in fact love it.

It takes some balls to release the kind of codex they did, not FAQ anything, then throw out new models not in the dex.

I can dig the model, but that paint scheme always leaves something to be desired.

Those tentacles seem so tacked-on. They're inexpliably coming out of somewhere and seem so flat.

It's almost as if this Cthulhufex was the afterthought model of the dual-kit and they needed some part to fill in the gaps between the arms and the carapace... so they shoved in some tentacles because kids love that stuff!

At first glance I'm not a fan of it (and I do like most of the current Tyranid range) but I will reserve judgement until we see more pictures. I can normally tell from blurry-pics whether or not I like a model, but in this case it's a weird camera angle. At the moment the whole neck and head area looks strange and the hind limbs look freakishly small and strangely positioned.. But I can't tell what's going on with the armour plates on the back of the head and maybe the legs are just too far away from the camera so are looking odd.

I like the face and the front claws. I wish the tentacles had been closer to Venomthrope lash whips but that's a minor thing. At that angle though the rear legs look a bit... off... like he's got frog-man syndrome.

Hopefully it's just the angle of the picture. Interested to see what the other one looks like.

For me, the tentacle face totally reminds me of the Toxicrene model.

I like it! Definitely looks in line with the whole "super lictor" thing. That said I really really hope the rumors on their point cost is off because there is no way in hell anyone would take a 200 point 4+ save MC and at over 150 pts the toxicrene makes little sense too... I mean 2+ poison attacks with ap2 is nice but most MC's with strength 6 are wounding on 2's anyways. Slightly better vs a riptide? Much better vs a Wraith Knight and the 6 insta death is nice but it is inferior to the Dima for that mu now... give them 12' movement and they might be worth it. 6'? No way in hell.

I just think its weird that everyone spends so much time trying to compare every new model to some toy or movie or whatever.

And yes, i agree with InControl. Movement speed on this thing will be a deciding factor. But if you play in a non-FW meta, that also changes things.

The model looks pretty hunched over so with shrouded maybe it's not hard to get a good cover save with it.

without anything concrete on these things, it's hard to really make a decision.

either way, new stuff is always better than no new stuff.

That's because "spot where GW ripped this concept off from" is actually a Hhhhobby in and of itself.

Do you not partake?

Considering literally anything that you post from any company can be found to be a 'rip off' of something else based on the loose criteria from these threads? No, I do not.

I disagree, sure, there's tropes that get redone over and over again, or get subverted in a really obvious way ("the Orks are.....good? Oooh, original!" Etc etc) but nobody blatantly rips off a concept time and again like GW.

But, as I've pointed out, this isn't an ID ripoff, it's a Cthulu one.

They don't come from nowhere, the tentacles are extensions of the front arms. It's just hard to tell because the arms blend in with the torso with that angle and paint scheme.

My initial response:
Weird is a good description. Looks much better than the Haruspex bubblegum explosion, but otherwise it feels off. Almost like a mix of several different nid styles from different editions- the wide crest and brainy head in the back reminds me of the old 2nd edition zoanthrope on the warrior body, while the tentacles are in the 5th edition venomthrope style, the mouth is 3rd/4th edition feeder tendril lictor, and the hands and pose are like the 6th edition tyrant guard. Also, it has sort of an apelike stance, with short rear legs and massive forearms, but is still trying for a more dynamic pose. Standing on a BA terminator is a tad amusing though.
