Thanks, Jan! Yeah I'm really feeling like I'm starting to get somewhere with this project now. So far it's taken over a year to get where I am now (with myriad other projects stealing my attention, of course).
I made some tentative steps towards making the removable, magnetised section (under the weapon arm) which will make the interior detail visible when it's removed. This is a pretty daunting stage in the project... I don't want to get it wrong!
Here's the first two panels. As with the rest of this build, they're just crudely kitbashed together atm, but when I've done a bit of patching up later on it'll look good:
Here it is, removed (just one magnet so far, there will be more):
Here are the first few parts I've chucked together to make a crazy engine/generator/power source:
Aaaaaaand that's all for now!

Another minor update on Stompy McStompface!
I did a bit more work on his skirt (using the tracks from the Shadowsword) and also added some details, like the Boy firing off his Shoota & the Stikkbomb Chukka.
I also added another magnet to the removable section so that it sits nice and snugly now:
I intend to have the Stompa swarming with Boyz and Grot Tekkies by the time I'm finished. It would be cool I have some space for the actual in-game occupants of the Stompa as well, but we'll see...
Lastly, has anyone got any dead choppy, dead Killy suggestions for a close combat weapon? I'm thinking some sort of berzerk circular saw, bedecked with a ton of secondary nasties...
Your suggestions, here:

Time for an update!
First off, I got around to repainting some of my Flash Gitz with my new skin recipe. I haven't finished the whole mob yet (three more to go) but chuffed with these three:
The ones on the right are the new recipe, the ones on the left are the old.
Here's a close-up:
Also, in procrastinative mood once again, I shirked working on the Stompa for getting the metallic base down on a squad of Stormboyz. As you can see, my mob is a mix of the old metal dudes and the cool new sculpts. As is quite often the case, I have a real soft spot for the original kit, especially when spruced up a bit with a few modern heads and the odd dynamic pose:
Close-up of an older Boy:
This means that I've got a massive squad of Lootas; a ten man Shoota boy mob, and now a sizeable Stormboy mob at this stage of painting. Good job I'm in the painting mood and that this mood always lasts for ages.....
Finally, something that's got little to do with this blog but that I wanted to show off anyway. I don't belong to any gaming groups so I can't really show this off to anyone who'd appreciate it.
Anyway, the other day I found a brand-new, still in the shrink-wrap copy of Gorkamorka!!! I couldn't believe my eyes! This beauty is turning twenty soon, and is still as fresh as a daisy!
This was definitely one of those one-offs where you know straight away that the hobby budget/painting vows are going straight out of the window! The question now is: do I open her up and try and get my kids into the game, or wait it out a bit and just enjoy beholding a thing of beauty...
Thanks for looking!

Thanks, dude!
OK, so just a short snippety update today.
The Stormboyz are coming along nicely, although I continue to doubt the wisdom of attempting to batch paint a mob of 14 of the rocket-propelled maniacs:
Of the myriad mobs I have left to paint, this one is the largest, so I figured that if I can get these dudes painted it'll be a huge motivation boost for getting the rest of the army done.
Next up: I started dabbling with a photo editor! I am sick to death of taking such crappy pictures, and I feel this is another step in the right direction. Here's some older pictures that were much darker before, but now look much shinier:
I'm too cheap (and broke, more pertinently) to buy the actual editing app, so for the time-being I have to put up with that annoying watermark.
What do you guys think? I'm chuffed to be honest. I think the Big Mek one looks especially crisp. I was considering trying to get it on the GW Flickr pool, but would they allow a picture with a watermark?
Finally, what would you guys like to see me work on next? After the Stormboyz are painted up, I'm thinking of finishing off the Looted Wagon and Tankbustas. The Stompa is forever calling my name, though... I'd love to blitz it and get it FINISHED!
Hit me up with suggestions,
Cheers!

Hey thanks, man!
I have to admit: I think the Looted Wagon is my favourite model I've ever put together:
I reckon I could get her finished relatively quickly as well...
Also, when the Stormys are done I'm thinking it's time for an army shot.. Might have to acquire a decent camera for that, though....

Thanks a lot, everyone!
Quick update/confession: I liked the look of the Stormboy formation so much in the W!G book that I was forced to convert up a Zagstruk. I've always hated the official model, and I had some ideas of my own that had been burning a hole in my brain, so here ya go:
I ripped off the bolt-on Mohawk from the Flash Gitz box and turned it up to 11! Looks daft as anything but that's the way I like it.
There are a few more small details to add and then I'm gonna try and get Da Boss painted up post-haste!
Thanks for looking.

Damn this thread is only 3 pages yet crammed full of AWESOMNESS !!!!!
Love the stompa way better than the official models, the amount of work in it already is fantastic, have you considered adding magnets for the boyz ? Just thinking that way you could alter the crewing to suit
The looted waggon is another great piece it's so good it should be an official model, I want one for myself I just love it
Any chance of a how to on it as I want to ...... well loot the idea
As for the Mohawk brilliant really makes the model stand out and adds character
Keeping a close eye on here in the future and keep at it

Sup Dakka! Sorry for being away for so long. I got royally distracted from painting and building Orks by those pesky Deathwatch and their Ultramarines comrades. Not to mention the swirling stramash that is my real life.
But now it's time for updates! Predictably enough, I haven't got loads of stuff finished (I'm not sure I fully grasp the meaning of that word), but I have got some stuff done.
The kickstarter for this was painting up a Wazbom Blastajet that my daughter got me for my birthday. I ordered it and of course bought it with my own money (she's five) but she made it clear that this was my present from her. As such, she got to dictate what loadout/colour scheme it would have. To my chagrin, she wanted it to look just like the one on the (backside) of the box.
This meant yellow *shudder*. I had never painted anything larger than an assault marine's helmet (stop it) yellow before, so I knew it was going to be a challenge. Overall, I roughly followed GW's suggested scheme, although I used an old 'Iyanden Darksun' yellow instead of 'Averland Sunset'. The only thing remaining to be said is that I loathe 'Flash Gitz Yellow'. It's nigh on impossible to work with and was a nightmare throughout.
As you can see, during my time away I certainly haven't devoted any time to learning how to take better pictures. But I hope you get the gist.
Finally, for the first of what I hope will now be regular updates, some news of the Stompa.
I haven't got loads of exciting stuff done on him, but a lot of the literal nuts and bolts are now done.
The most progress has probably been made on the engine stacks at the back. After debating for ages about how to build a suitably daft engine/exhaust system, I decided to just buy the Promethium Pipe Line kit and glue 'em on. I think it's going pretty well so far:
Also, I started tentatively on what will be his 'berserk chainsaw arm'. These discs are made of plasticard and bits off the PPL:
Lastly, has anyone played Super Meat Boy? It was in a documentary called 'Indie Game' or something on Netflix. Anyway, I bought it and found it really appeals to my Orky tastes. This guy is the boss of the first level:
I'm thinking: some Gorkanaut feet and a Stompa chainsword and the job'll almost be a good 'un! Anyone who's got those bits and is willing to flog them to me, get in touch!
Thanks for reading!

Just a little update on the day of Swedish midsummer:
The circular saw arm is coming along pretty nicely! I've ripped off the design from loads of sources, but mostly FW's Stompa.

Right now it's screaming out for some rivets and other small details. Hopefully I'll get to adding those later when I'm a little less hungover.

Cheers mate! Those swirls were terrifying to do! But my daughter wanted me to paint it just like the box so my hand was forced.. Painting the yellow was also an infuriating process but worth it in the end!
The plasticard is too thick pieces (maybe 2mm) glued together and then roughly cut off with scissors (a pair you couldn't give a damn about).
Then I went in with the X-Acto and neatened it up/roughed it up as required.
More pictures of the Killy arm:
I'm calling the grot 'driver' the 'Grotpit'... When I'm done, that cockpit will be festooned with bombs/guns
More pics with (hopefully) some stonking great magnets tonight!

Good morning from London, UK! The clan and I are off on our hols this week but I thought I'd chuck out a summer update on what I've been up to!
I've done loads more work on the Stompa this week. The thing is, she's such a vast build that sometimes it feels like I haven't come very far at all.
In any case, here's the big gal with her close combat arm magnetised on. There's some interior detail if you look closely (basically loads of wires and cables). What disappointed me with this stage was that despite buying reeeeally strong magnets, the saw arm couldn't support itself. So, alas, I'll have to devise a way to discreetly pin it as well.
I also have really gone to town on the Grotpit. After the addition of the little bomb wings, I had a mad urge to make the whole arm detachable.. What better way to smoke those pesky guardsmen out of their bunker than by launching a gigantic, rocket-propelled circular saw at them? I swiftly reconsidered...
That's all for now, folks!
Happy holidays!

Though the title of today's update might at first seem click-baity, the Stompa is actually nearing completion! Praise Gork! I've been working on and off on her for about two years and, to put it mildly, I'm ready to move on to other projects. Something that has been motivating me to get her done is a local convention that is taking place in a couple of weeks. I thought it would be cool to show her off there but, if that's gonna happen, I need to keep up the current work tempo!
This last week I've been doing loads of tricky bits that I've been putting off forever:
The skirt is almost complete now, which is fortunate because I'm running out of track pieces from the Shadowsword. I've also been filling in gaps in the armour which is often tricky but is really starting to make her look formidable! I was also really pleased with how the first shoulder guard turned out!
Loads of riveting and armour panels have been added too:
There's still a ton to do but I'm feeling motivated to get her finished!
I just need to resist the urge to buy more Mek Gunz and Battlewagons for bitz hoarding purposes
Thanks for reading!

Alas, a slight distraction for this week's update! Nah, this was actually something I'd been meaning to do for ages. A trial run of the paint scheme I'm planning for the Stompa. This was also my first attempt at using Greenstuff World's tentacle maker, which I can highly recommend. There's just something fundamentally satisfying about making tentacles and tubes. I think it works perfectly with the Kan models, too.
Pictures:
I've done a lot of small conversion on the lead Kan (it's literally impossible to resist..) and I'm really looking forward to painting it. I'm thinking of ripping off the FW Stompa paint scheme ie loads of rust on a mostly black background.
I'm gonna spray these pesky little grunts later when I get home from work.
Cheers!

Hahaha! Thanks for that fine imagery, Doc! I had been thinking that might be a sound tactic, to have the Kans protecting the Stompa from pesky attacks from behind. That strategy will now forever be known as the Duckling Damage Limitation.
Crappy WIP of one of the Kans:
I'm pretty pleased with how they're turning out. I have the usual urges to splash more colour on them but then I want to stick to the Goff colour scheme... Something awful that happened to me this week: I ran out of Agrax! Coming a close second to the frankly unthinkable situation of waking up to find my coffee has run out, this certainly threw a spanner in the works. I couldn't for example finish the base because I use Agrax in my recipe.. :-(
Anyway, hopefully these will be done this week, although I also need to paint a couple of Orky specialists for what could be my first games of Shadow War Armageddon next weekend.
So lots to do! Until next time,
NLC

Thanks, EDC! And yeah, it sucks a lot when it happens. Especially considering the reason I was so short of Agrax was that I had managed to send one of those new ganglier pots of it flying a while back.. Luckily I found a pot in among the chaos that is my work area, which saved me a two hour round trip to buy one lousy pot of paint!
Anyway, the first Kan is more or less done:
I've completely ripped off the idea from a Killa Kan that was in White Dwarf a few months back, but hey ho.
The other two Kans are coming along nicely too.
Cheers!
