I'll be honest, I'm fine with just making the assumption that the hero in question does have a retinue that we're just not seeing at that scale (much like my regiments of 400 spearmen seem to have just 20 actual models on the table... well, 17...)

I've never imagined that guy is actually running around by himself.

Am I misremembering something? I thought that was either implicitly or explicitly stated somewhere in the rules already...

Nope.

Warhammer used to (may even still do), there was a section in WHF talking about how models and measurements were scaled to make it playable otherwise you'd need a car park just to have a realistic representation of a longbow.

Huh... I have this viscerally strong recollection of reading something about heros in KoW representing the hero and his/her retinue... Ah well... Ultimately it doesn't really matter. That said, Id agree that the lack of a penalty for losing your general is one of the limitations of KoW.

Still love the rules though and can't wait for v2 to hit street.

Oh, just for clarity sake, my proposed "remove models" idea is just a matter of personal preference. I like the aesthetic choice of depleted units as nerve increases, so its a totally unofficial, totally arbitrary thing my group and I took to doing.

Oh, that Horde of Zombies is sitting on 10 nerve tokens? Pull a handful of them off. That sort of thing. Purely a cosmetic choice for those of us who like a visual "feedback" from successful attacks.

One other random aside to the original poster and those curious about the game in general... You REALLY need to see KoW on the table to realize what an impressive presence it has.

I had seen a lot of people playing WHFB prior to getting into KoW, and was surprised when the reality how the two define "mass battles" really hit me.

I would watch people play 2000pts of WHFB and say it was a reasonably large game...

And then I played KoW at 1000pts, and noticed I easily had twice as many models on the table.

In terms of raw visual appeal, KoW looks genuinely epic (and that is aside from the fact that the grandeur can be had for oh... a third of GW prices).
