No arguments from me about removing the spikes - and the flame trap doesn't really tend to do much aside from give Killalot something to do his "grilling thing" over.

I'm a heretic for saying it, but I'm beginning to feel that Killalot himself is a bit... rubbish, really. Aesthetically cool, but all he can really do is pick stuff up and drop it again - No damage!
Dead Metal is my favourite House Robot, but he's not very damaging either - but at least you get the buzzsaw making sparks, so it's interesting. Killalot seems a bit anticlimactic.

And not interviewing the losers is a decision I can unreservedly get behind.

..I think the flame trap was sorta good once -- back when people decorated their machines more. I recall machines covered in felt, cloth etc etc etc.

But does seem a bit ..superfluous...these days.

I've never actually bothered to download/send off for/read the actual rules for the event.

One assumes blowtorches/similar are right out yeah ?

I was somewhat surprised that "nuts" was allowed to use the two smaller robots as well.

Felt quite sorry for the guy in Terrohurtz whose only job is to "fire" the axe, but seemingly is denied even this slim joy via the strict orders of his team-mate /driver.

.. bet they have to edit out most of the language from the player booths.

I seem to recall that they used to have a House Robot with a flamethrower... I assume they're not allowed for competitors, but maybe its just that no-one wants to use them - can't imagine they'd be hugely effective, unless they can pin an enemy bot in one place for long enough.

I was rooting against Terrorhurtz after the Driver fella was such a bag of nuts n' bolts to the Axe-man. Seemed to be taking it a bit too seriously? I think the right robot won in the end, anyway. Looking forward to the next episode

Nice, looking forward to seeing Carbide and Thor again - seems to be a lot of vertical spinners this time around - but some other designs that could be interesting too...

Wishing I was back at the South Atlantic, closer to ice than the sun

IIRC competitors are forbidden from running hydraulics above a certain PSI, no flammable liquids or gasses, no pressurised gas canisters above a certain PSI (which is why all the CO2 flippers only have 6 or so good shots {Chaos had a real problem with this when it first appeared}). And no projectile weapons.

And the house robots were exempt from all these rules....

Cheers

We'll find out soon enough eh.

I think they're going to have to revise the build rules at some point, it's pretty obvious that with the right design & build quality, modern materials allow for disc-based systems to become hilariously powerful. If they don't loosen things up so flippers and crushers can scale up their power level to match, or at least bolt on some additional armour, things are going to get stale.

It certainly seems that spinners are the big dogs at the moment, but then, flippers (like Apollo) seem reasonably popular too. I would love to see a bit more variety in armament - it seems to mostly be spinner, flipper, and pneumatic axe/hammers as a distant third. We see a few other types, but they tend to be the "joke" entries (Jellyfish, anyone?)
But then, I suppose it's a lot like real warfare in a way - there are only so many viable/efficient weapon types.
I still would love to see flamethrowers and crushing claws on a competitor bot though! Or maybe some kind of drill-bot...

Well, I never particularly liked Behemoth. They've always been a bit boring, in my opinion.

Yup. The judges decision in favour of Cherub in their previous fight seemed like "don't put the icckle kiddles out so quick" charity tbh, they didn't do anything prior to the big impact that ended the fight to justify overriding the fact that PP3D clearly did the most damage, but the decision against Behemoth seemed fair enough and storming off is just bad form and contrasted really badly with PP3D's reaction.

It was Cherub wasn't it?

Isn't Eruption going through? It flipped Cherub out of the arena in like 5 seconds in the heat final.

fair play to that team, that's the most effective flipper I've ever seen in the show.

I had to disagree with the judges with regards to Cherub beating PP3d-- I agree with Mr Yodhrin with regards to damage dealt and so forth.

All in all a good series

Really quite impressed at the damage some of the machines can do now.

and some of the skills shown with regards to repairs/rebuilds are top notch too.

A worthy champion and one that looks hard to beat.

Indeed. Honestly the only vulnerability Carbide seems to have is the spinner's drive chain and a tiny sliver of the wheels, and to hit either you'd need to either purpose build a ridiculously specific weapon or get incredibly lucky.

I mean, maybe a hammer/axe design with sufficient force could jar some of the electronics loose by pummelling it, but I'm not sure you would get both a sufficiently powerful weapon system and all the armour you'd need to survive for any length of time inside the weight limit.

Carbide is a beast of a machine, no doubting that. I think they were unlucky not to win the last series, and that was before they made it even beastier.
I have to say, I wouldn't be betting against Carbide even if it fought the house bots - not saying it would win, but it'd stand enough of a chance that it wouldn't be a sure-thing win for the house bot, which was unthinkable back in the older series...

Potentially incendiary....but what ruined the original series of Robot Wars for me was seeing the same roots series after series winning with seemingly minimal design changes.

I'd be interested to see what happened if all Robots were 'one and done' when it came to championships. If a team then won several, that'd speak volumes of their capability - but some one can't help but wonder if they simply stumbled upon the sweet spot?

There's always the potential for pure chance to screw things up. That one lucky hit which knocks the failsafe loose.

As a rule of thumb, robot wars is always a slight case of rock paper scissors. Carbide is nasty and able to knock chunks out of robots, but is disadvantaged against something solid that can keep pummeling it close in like Storm 2 or Tornado (preventing the spinner getting up to speed), or something that can grab it at a bad angle and then do piercing damage (think Dead Metal or Razer).

Was watching carbide on the American version. It lost so easily against its opponent. Which had a spinning blade that was variable in height. It took knocks from carbide while adjusting its blade and then sliced the top of the wheels off carbide.

Was very much an anti-climax.
