Thank you Captain Brown

So for once I managed to not make things more difficult and did some base decoration *before* attaching the mini and making most of said base inaccessible :p

I'll be adding some water effects at the top left where the Venomcrawler's leg rests on some tactical debris included in the mini (white outline) and more static grass etc at the base's edges, but I guess it's time to get to work on the monster itself now ...

I'm trying this (base decoration *before* attaching the mini) more myself these days too. Base looks good.

Thanks for reading + commenting, Arakasi!
Had to take a break from the big creepy thing (... too many surfaces, too many details ...) so say hi to Neko Lelith:

The mini is so much better than GW's angry BDSM pin-up paintjob suggests (even without greenstuffed Catra ears ) Still to do: Colour blending on the blades, HAIR, cleaning up the skin, grass etc on the base.
She's tiny, tho (at least for current GW minis) - even a bit smaller than the Cursed City älf although both seem to share the same leg positioning (*cough* digital sculpting *cough*)

Lilith is looking nice. I agree she is better in person than the initial pictures would suggest.

Yeah I don't really understand why she looks like a kind of furious clown on their pics, the face is really quite different?

... and done!

This was fun! Have a couple other DEldar kits lying around, hope to do some more soon now I've figured out a colour scheme I like.

Well done Mobile! She looks better than the GW paint job ,IMO, her skin and the patina on the armour is excellent.
Looking forward to seeing how the spider turns out.

Cool paint job, the grim dark suits DE nicely. I love the different colours you got on her metallic parts, it works really well

Thanks Yorkright and gobert!

Oof these were two weird months, finished a first draft + revisions for a little book and now uni work came back with a vengeance, universities here in Germany are kinda trying to get back to 'normal' teaching but no-one seems to have really figured out how this is meant to work. Exciting

Barely managed to finish two minis for the August Dakka challenge:

Theme was 'Rebels', painted the hybrid in the Star Wars rebel alliance pilot scheme (it's quite close to one of the official GW schemes, anyway), wanted to do the 'loyalist' (ahem) Marine as a counterpart Jedi/Sith with some dramatic OSL but then just stuck to a cleaner comic book style.

And my first Sigmarines! These were fun, looking forward to painting more of those. I really need to get all the half finished CSM on my painting table done, tho, no wonder they turned renegade :p

Ugh were did the last 2 months go? Don't wanna even know but good riddance to them. Anyway, back to hobbying!

Did some AoS minis mostly from Cursed City for October's + November's Dakka challenges. These were fun, didn't have much of an idea for a Nighthaunt paint scheme in the beginning but then just settled for something rather erm psychedelic, kinda a weird 'pretty' decaying style as maybe in the Annihilation movie. I also finally got the Sigmarite Mausoleum kit! It's a great kit but the scale is so weird, I guess these must be Ogor skulls :p

Painted the Cursed City heroines in a more gaudy style to match the CC Ogor / Sylvaneth minis I did previously, but went for a muted browns/greys palette for the Vyrkos vampires.

Working on Yndrasta and some random Stormcast now

... and trying to finish ye olde Mordheim Sisters alongside, also touching up the bases and details of some that I painted last year.

I hadn’t spotted your Sigmarines before, they’re fantastic, really dark and gritty, great work! The nighthaunt looks fantastic, like his head is covered in a glowing blood soaked sheet!

Thanks gobert! The Nighthaunt was interesting to paint, when I started it I was like ugh what am I doing, why did I even get those, should just ebay them, then I was like, eh let's just do something more ... weird and suddenly it was both fun and quite easy.

Here's an Yndrasta I did for December's Dakka challenge, photos are really dark & I think I should do some matt varnishing on her wings, the Vallejo inks are really really glossy in comparison to the other acrylics I use. I think I'll take a couple of better pics once I get more Stormcast done.

Starting some Underworld Sylvaneth for the January challenge - lovely sculpts but this gonna be subassemblies hell, ugh

Ok been a bit quiet here, some busy weeks writing + winter term at uni ending ... spent most of my hhhobby time fiddling with the Sylvaneths' bases and just managed to finish one mini:

Also I've seen that youwashock posted a couple drawings so hell yeah why not post some 2D stuff too! Here's a little doodle I made a couple of months ago, trying to get more into digital painting:

New Dakka Challenge round is "Age Before Beauty", managed to find some minis from what I think is the first plastic Citadel kit I got (if we don't count Space Crusade) ... and of course never properly finished painting ^^ That's the "Fantasy Regiments" kit which came with a total of 60 minis for 6 factions! I think we used the goblins in some Rolemaster sessions, thus the numbers on the bases. I've picked 5 of the orcs, WIP pics soon ...

Hell yeah is right! That moon's got the best look. Awesome pic! I missed Yndrasta, too. That purple in the wings is killer. Great to see some Fantasy Regiments boys. That box was made for splitting.

Thanks youwashock

Here's the first boy mostly finished - not 100% happy about the blade but then it very much just a roughly scimitar-shaped slab on the mini, anyway ... I'll try out different takes on the others. Base is still quite shoddy, will get back to it once the others are done. Has been quite a while since I even handled a square base ... heh, let's say this is an early start for getting an orc army for the Old World game painted, whenever this might come out

Doing little conversions to the other boys so they're not that monotonous:

Great ideas to differentiate those old monopose orcs. Those kits can look pretty nice if you manage to mix them up a bit (and placing them a bit differently on their bases can help too)

Nice retro orcs MSR, the finished boy has a nice skin tone to him I think. The conversions look like they’ll add some nice variation too

Nice job giving them some personality. The guy with the bag over his shoulder is great.

Thanks everyone! Here's a little WIP of these guys

The one in the middle got a shield from the wolfrider gobbos kit, left one has a blade from the monopose orcs that came in the WHFB orcs & goblins batallion box, skulls are from the Citadel skull kit. Having much more fun with those than I thought, maybe shouldn't be such a chicken about converting minis

Ah, forgot to post the finished Orcs here:

Not 100% happy with the red hood guy's hood, think I'll greenstuff some more fabric above his brow.

Working on Kyria Draxos and some Underworld Sylvanelfs. Don't really like Kyria's bald head so she got a little 'fro:

Wooden Elves are looking good. Huge fan of the patina on Kyria's armor.

The orcs came out really well MobileSuitRandom, I hadn’t really spotted the skulls on a rope until now. Draxos and the elves are looking promising already
