It wasn't a model for anything Space Marine related. It was Dawn of War.

For Malifaux, I love a whole lot of miniatures and factions, but it was 4 sculpts in particular that made me start:

The Viktorias (From the Hired Swords crewbox)

Leveticus and Rusty Alyce (Salvage and Logistics crewbox)

These guys got me into the hobby. I remember being impressed how modular they were. I was firmly into adeptus titanicus, then space marine, then titan legions before I even considered something 28mm. The new adeptus titanicus is my most anticipated release for the last 20 years.

The Tau, and this tank. Screw the giant anime robots, Tau are supposed to have tanks!

Then, I had a thought of adding an IG superheavy or two as allies for big games. I painted one of these beautiful tanks, and "just a bit of IG" turned into my primary army.

What finally sealed the deal on IG was the Marauder Destroyer. It took years to get the confidence to paint the one I impulse-bought, but it is finally mine. Pic of my own model, this time:

Typhus, Herald of Nurgle. Seeing him for the first time and reading his little blurb on GW's website got me hooked. I know people love the 30k variant more, but his corrupted pose just looks so cool to me. Reading up on him, Kharn, etc. always peaked my interest in 40k.

Strangely enough, what got me into miniature wargaming was the Dust Tactics Sino Soviet Union drop walker and transport helicopter. I like the idea of a squadron of helicopters zooming in dropping off a bunch of armored walking mechs then calling for pick up before their target really knows what hit them.

I don't really have one for 40K, although; I do really like the Chaos Lord that came with Dark Vengeance.

What started my Chaos Army on Old Fantasy and now AoS is the only, powerfull, and true, Khorne Champion, Lord of Undead... Krell!

Yes. He is the Chaos Lord of all of my armies. I have multiple copies of him painted in many different colours. My favourite model ever release for GW.

Now, my primary love, the models that made me start my Orc army back in the day...

The good old Azhag. Back in the day I said it and think "This is the best thing ever"

And this dudes is the reason why I always have a squad of 20 Arrer Boyz. They are so beautifull, full of character. Even if they suck

And my Tau army... well... I totally agree with peregrine. Tau are about tanks, not anime mechas... but.... this one... I'm sorry.

Still my favourite Tau model to date. I love her. I marked the name of my wife in Tau letters in his helmet

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

This started it:

Played this a lot (solo...somehow). Also started making up stats at the age of 9-10 for my own additional lead (gasp!) Ral Partha figures which I picked up at a hobby store. I added them as heroes.

Followed a short while later by this:

Despite being incredible, I never went down the Warhammer Fantasy battles route. This box at the time represented a whole friggin' army (both this and Hero Quest were teamed up with Games Workshop at the time) for both the Empire and a generic Chaos force. It'd be a stellar deal now if it existed...

Those eventually lead to my first ever Space Marines which was a painted RTB01 set I picked up from a local hobby shop (using my first paycheck at age 14). $50 for 10 painted figures, including a metal sergeant. Painted red w/ black/yellow helmet stripes, nicely based too. No idea whatever happened to them. That started me down the road to 40K and I switched over to Eldar maybe by accident in high school and stuck with them till now...some 20 years later.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

Technically, it was the LotR Goblins/High Elves that came with the first issues of the GW/DiAgostini partwork magazine. Being a kid just discovering LotR and seeing the minis advertised on the TV, they just seemed like the coolest thing ever.

It wasn't until a good 5-6 years later that I looked outside LotR stuff, and this was the model that did it. The mounted one in particular, I was drawn to the flamboyance and epicness that a lot of the more grounded LotR scupts lacked, picked him up in a half price sale and never went back.

A few months later, a friend introduced me to 40k. I can't say there was any particular model that pushed me into buying AoBR, but once I had, this one was (and still is) one of my favourites. Need to do up another version at some point, the 3 I have are all a little dated paint-wise.

Can't find the original, but this refrigerator from Assault on Blackreach is what started my addiction. First model I got a compliment on for painting too (it means a lot to an 8-year old).

Took a little hiatus from the hobby and came back when I saw these ugly creatures get released. In their infinite wrongness, these models somehow seem so right.

H.B.M.C.- The end hath come! From now on armies will only consist of Astorath, Land Speeder Storms and Soul Grinders!
War Kitten- Vanden, you just taunted the Dank Lord Ezra. Prepare for seven years of fighting reality...
koooaei- Emperor: I envy your nipplehorns. <Magnus goes red. Permanently>
Neronoxx- If our Dreadnought doesn't have sick scuplted abs, we riot.
Frazzled- I don't generally call anyone by a term other than "sir" "maam" "youn g lady" "young man" or " HEY bag!"
Ruin- It's official, we've ran out of things to talk about on Dakka. Close the site. We're done.
mrhappyface- "They're more what you'd call guidlines than actual rules" - Captain Roboute Barbosa
Steve steveson- To be clear, I'd sell you all out for a bottle of scotch and a mid priced hooker.

40k - The Screamer Killer. I was an impressionable young lad and it was just so rockin.

Infinity - Al Hawwa sniper. I was starting to get tired of GW and 40k and I came across a thread about there being 'too much cheesecake' in miniatures. I don't know why this one was in there, but I'm glad it was because it immediately sold me on Infinity, which is now my primary game.

Malifaux - Teddy. The idea of a teddy bear that is eight feet tall and wants to swallow you whole is great. The fact that the entire game is based on such similar schlocky stereotypes (wild west, hammer horror, 80's kung fu movies and more) and it all fits together is amazing.

Bigger than that. You can almost load a space marine into the gun, base (25mm) and all!

150mm is roughly 6" - or around 2mm in scale. That gun is a bare minimum of two FEET across. That makes it bigger than the biggest battleship cannon, in bore diameter at least.

The first time I ever heard about Warhammer (I didn't know at that time) was when I saw a small shelf in a local toy store, what caught my eye was a box of dark elves, the very old kind. it must have been 16-18 years ago. The art on the box was so awesome, I loved Knights and everything medievel when I was a kid.

My mom wouldn't buy it for me and if I remember right the lady in the disk told us we had to assemble it.

A few years later, maybe 14, when I was on vecation in Denmark, my family went into a toy/game store and once again I saw these "toys". I ended up buying a box of Bretonnia Knights, I remember how awesome the cover was! I just had to get it, I used my own money and the guy in the desk told us we had to buy Paint and glue, so my Brother also bought some stuff.

Ive been hooked ever since and I'm still waiting for New bretonnia Knights... - As if it will ever happen... : (

For me, it wasn't a model, but a book.
At our local Barnes and Nobel, they carried a copy of the Lord of the Rings miniature game soft cover rules book. I remember sitting in the aisle and looking at all the models, and painting tips and just thinking "woah this is cool as hell, I love models and painting", that would have been back around 2000-2001 era? After that I just naturally progressed into 40k as I'd always been a big sci-fi fan and after playing the first Dawn of War game, I ended up getting the Battle for Maccrage boxed set.

I think the first mini that really grabbed me was this one:

Then I saw those Genestealers and the Tyranid Screamer Killer, and I had to get me one:

After that, I started collecting Tyranids. I kept at that for a while, while the other mini that I really loved was the old Lord of Change, and started getting really interested in Chaos:

Also, I had a terrific white dwarf that featured some really cool conversions for a tzeentch warband, and I really felt like that worked well.

As for other games I got into- I was really fond of this dwarf, and I got into Warmachine:

I picked up a Hordes faction because of this badboy

And I played Circle largely due to this one:

I grabbed Relic Knights for Sebastian Cross

And i started playing Super Dungeon Explore because of this bad boy:

And I started playing Kingdom Death when I realized that I could make this conversion:

For models in general, the plastic and cardboard furniture from hero quest. i am serious in just how much i loved those little things. you could put a tiny rat on them!

Back when i had guard it was the valhallans. i loved the wintery greatcoat look! didn't know or care much about the background.

Generally i like small things, and animals, so for a more recent army, the main thing that attracted me to the stormcast were not the sigmarines themselves, but the gryph hound that came with the one hero.
