Another three weeks, another update. The drones are almost, almost finished. To be honest, i could've probably finished them by now, if it wasn't for Kingdom Come: Deliverance. But i guess some things can't be helped?

I tried my hand at doing the hazard stripes with a pigment liner and i'm really happy with the results. Of course i need to fix it up with some paint, but at least they base is there and that took me just about two hours on all those difficult surfaces. Especially the power cables, oh lord, the power cables.

I really like how the metal parts of the base came out. With some proper pigments, those will certainly look great!

I'm still not sure what effect i will go for with pointy's smoke plumes. Probably blue-ish, maybe green-ish. Certainly not grey-ish.

The rust effect was actually the easyiest part of the entire paint job. Gods bless Typhus Corrosion and thinned down Ryza Rust.

Their eyes will have proper irises added to them once i'm done with the main work. They'll probably be somewhat plain looking, but that will (hopeyfully) be a good contrast to the outlandish horror of the rest of the model.

I see conversions like this and become immediately jealous of the skill, time and creativity that went into all of them.

While some projects are enjoyable to look at on a screen, this one makes me think I would genuinely like to see it on a table top.

Good job.

Thank you. I'll try to snap a few action shots once i'm at the hobby club later today, can't make any promises though.

The weather was rather nasty today and since i had nothing better to do i took a shot at doing some HUGE eyes. I used the tutorial by MiniWar Gaming and i'm pretty satisfied with the results. Certainly there is room for improvement here, but, hey, not bad for my first try.

My girlfriend threatens to throw me out of our work space if she has to spend the next few days in the company of "those creepy looking f*ckers". I'll take the help where i can get it, time to finish these bastards!

Eyes look great to me, so watery and weird Chalky white drones are legit as well, love the contrast against the weapons and hazards.

Well, i do hope to give them a bit of an aged look once i'm finished.

So, most of the big stuff ist finally done. Layers, Highlights, etc. Now i'm down to the technical details.

More corrosion, blood spatter, bile, pus and pigmets to come. This is the fun part!

After that, it's only the bases left - but that won't take too long.

And i'll say it again: I'm really looking forward to doing something that hasn't been blessed by the Plague Father.

Good news, everyone!

The drones are finally here.

Feels good to be done with them. This was an exhausting project and i really felt like just doing something - anything - else a lot of times. I would like to thank all the good people that cheered me up during the hard times.

No rest for the wicked! I pulled this Chaos Decimator off ebay years ago. Stripping forgeworld models is always tedious, thankfully the previous owner used acryllic-based paint, so i was able to scrub off most of it in the end. Here's a sneak peek:

I got rid of the chaos runes on top of his shoulder pads, most of it was too damaged to repair. Instead i'm going to add some sweet glyphs of khorne up there. Yeah, that's right, this is going to be a World Eaters Decimator, baby! After a long time of thinking about it at work, i also decided to lose the original helmet, which just didn't give me a berzerker-ish vibe. After trying out some skulls and daemonic faces, i settled for the upper body of a Berzerker, even though the Decimator is technically not a helbrute. Such heresy!

Other additions were the loincloth to give him a more centered feel, a flew marks of khorne here and there and the gut-plate, which is a nod to Kraut Scientist's work with his World Eaters, who has been a great source of inspiration for quite a while. I'll see if i can add a few more pieces to give the guy some more character. And since my Berzerkers refuse to stop beheading psykers i also ordered two soulburner petards so that my boys might get some way to throw around mortal wounds.

Like many people it seems, the Decimator falls short for me in a handful of ways. I want to love it, but that head, the hunched over posture, the inconsistency with other daemon engines / chaos ranges ...

So clearly I'm a fan of your salvage job here All the changes look solid, including the baby bjorn-style berzerker-helbrute pilot. And this dude will be white as well? Delicious!

PS: The drones look great all finished up, lots of tasty details

Glad that i'm not alone on this one! Yeah, it's a shame. Because the chicken walker chassis itself is quite great and something that is - at least to me, chicken walker-fan that i am - missing from the wide range of chaos miniatures.

Thank you!

So, i had a very industrious easter so far. I added the chain-of-skulls to his shoulder for additional character and i have to say, GW's skull kit is just a blessing for the followers of Khorne! Also painted the weapons that came with him originally, just in case i would want to field him until the petards arrived. All in all, this was a blast to me so far. But i'm glad i had the option to use my airbrush for the base layer of chrome on all the metal parts - especially the cables, oh dear lord, the cables.

I'm looking forward towards the shading process to add some depth to the paintjob.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
May the dark gods bless the easter holidays! While the family was asleep, i managed to finish the shades.

And some of the details. The mark on Khorne is part greenstuff and also includes the glyph from the chaos vehicle sprue.

This was, so far, a really quick and enjoyable paintjob. I'm looking forward towards finishing it - if only that package would finally show up!

"And what are the achievements of your fragile Imperium? It is a corpse rotting slowly from within while maggots writhe in its belly. It was built with the toil of heroes and giants, and now it is inhabited by frightened weaklings to whom the glories of those times are half-forgotten legends."

And here we are, the Soulbreaker is finished.

This was really a fast and fun project for me. All in all it took me barely two weeks.

The paintjob is definitely rough and shabby in places. Certainly not my best work, but it felt very refreshing to do something that wouldn't take months to finish.

The conversions are pretty minimal. But i felt the model was outlandish enough, so i didn't add random mutations here and there.

Still, some fine details have to be in place. I really do love these fallen statues.

All in all, it feels very much like a World Eater's unit, and that was my goal from the start. And i have some real firepower for my poor 'zerkers now, so that's good.

Allrighty, time for the weekly update!

So, the other week i had a devastating game against Thousand Sons. And i've been also struggling against Eldar armies, basically anything very heavy on the psy-side.

So, on friday evening, i grabbed a few old dire wolves and chaos warhounds and started building somoe Flesh Hounds of Khorne.

Took me about eight hours, and it shows, but at least i don't have to be afraid of psykers when fielding the XIIth any longer.

Also, because i always liked the idea of him, i gave Karanak a quick splash of paint. With him, i'll get 5 chances every round to deny the witch.

If anything, i wish i had spend more time with their bases. They do look a bit dull here and there, but then again, it's nice to quickly finish a detachment every now and then.

Last but not least, one of my Bloat-Drones was chosen to be Warhammer 40.000 Germany's facebook page's official model of the week.

Yay me.

Thanks a lot!.

So i managed to get out last thursday and play a little game. Sadly i didn't get to let the dogs out, but instead i teamed up my World Eaters with a Thousand Sons force of a buddy to do a 2000p matched battle with the sons of Russ.

Thanks to some good fortunes i had the chance to deploy very close to the enemy and managed to seize afterwards.

My so my boys took the chance and jumped out of their metal bawkses (on loan from Death Guard fc) and charge!

In the shooting phase my decimator managed to take out an axe n' board dreadnought of the wolves.

The resulting melee was utterly brutal. Berzerker squad A managed to chop up Bjorn the Fel Handed, a unit of Primaris used counter-offensive to kill half of Berzerker squad B, but the following melee by the remaining Berzerkers, the Dark Apostle and the Exalted Champion took down half a dozend Hellblasters, even more common Primaris and a Wolf Priest. After that, one of the Berzerkers managed to get close enough to the big Long Fang squad behind the wall of Primaris and engage them inclose combat as well, forcing them to fall back next round.

All in all my opponent lost over 800 points in out first round. He spend the rest of the game struggeling to somehow keep our forces in check. He wiped out all of my Berzerkers and commaanders by the end of the second turn, but ended up paying a high price for it. After all, the Thousand Sons still remained basically untouched and many of the Warriors of Fenris had died by that point. He surrendered at the end of his turn, with only a heavily damaged Storm Ravend and a Razorback remaining on the battlefield.

So, a quick and sowhat one-sided game. Still, felt good not to die horribily while charging a gunline, which is nice, for a change. For the future, my techno-barbarians need some more disposable units at their side, right now every lost marine hurts my army as a whole. And i should also construct some fast moving units to pressure the enemy into making mistakes. We'll see what the future brings...

Made in de

Turns out the future brings cultists. Lots and lots of cultists. I re-purposed a bunch of Blood Reavers from AoS and mixed a few loose pistols in there, here and there. The finished product is quite nice, although it will be painful to watch them die by the dozen(s) to some unpainted Nu-Marines. *sigh* C'est la vie!

They're parts of the 144th Regiment of the Planetary Defense Forces of my yet-to-be-named war zone. Having been corrupted by the Bloodgod in the merciless warfare of the 41th century, they abandoned their former ranks and titles, instead becoming a horde of plundering, reaving madmen.

And that's why they're wearing green pants!

Anyway, sadly i missed out on taking some WIP-shots of these guys, but i'll promise there will be plenty of those from my next project. Having finished this fairly cheap unit, it's time to build something a bit pricier.

Will do! Also, thanks a lot!

So, since i have another game coming up on Thursday, i decided to do a little do-over on a Demon Prince that i had painted about five years ago.

He's shiny. And what a difference a few years, better techniques and improved tools can make! Sadly, he lacks any amount of World Eaters iconography, but it's hard to add new things to a FW model. Still, looking back at him now, i probably should have gotten my hands on a pair of bigger wings. But, well, it's warp-stuff, so logic isn't all that needed, right?

And now it's back to converting things. Hopefully, i will be able to give you a quick look towards my new project soon enough.

Another day, another update. I'm getting stuff done in the last few weeks, it's great.

Of course, that won't last forever. We'll be moving house at the end of next month and another two months after that, i'll get to start my new job at the municipal government. So i'll make the best out of what i have. But on the bright side i might finally get my own hobby room, so there is that!

Work has begun on a big squad of World Eater Terminators.

Bases are a wild mash up of discarded, earlier work and new stuff. All in all i wanted to give the boys a more massive, threatening look.

I used mostly cataphractii and tartaros -legs, for that old and forgotten feel. Also because i don't really like the ancient plastic Chaos Terminators at all, especially their poses. For the crest ornaments, i used some of the more elaborate designs from the blood warrior helmets, that i felt to be out of place on a Berzerker. Having them on top of a Terminator's battle plate seems to make more sense to me.

Next up: A lot of drilling to be done!

Made in de
Cackling Chaos Conscript

Dortmund

Right, the legs have been pinned and here they are on their bases.

I've added some plastic tubing to their hip areas to give them a straighter posture and make them less squad and bendy looking.

I also finished the base for the Chaos Terminator Lord that will accompany the Squad.

Can you tell who that is? I've employed the same techniques for his base that i had already used for my Maulerfiend.

Lastly, i've started converting the combi-weapons, that the boys will be armed with. These are Kromlech's Legionary Thunder Guns with under-barrel plasma guns. They are a bit rough at places, but i do like the overall design, especially the drum magazine.

I plan to give the entire squad these combi-plasma guns. However, i'm not certain about the chainsaw bayonet. Obviously, it's a bit loose and will gain more structural support, once i get started with the green stuff. Still, i'm looking for some opinions here. How do you guys feel about them?

Still busy doing basic cutting, pinning and posing. Nothing is glued yet, but here's a vague size comparison between a cultist, a berzerker and one of the fresh new terminators!

Pretty happy about the size, the pose is much straighter and looks far less ready to topple over. He looks like a chaos space marine wearing heavy armour - not like a deformed pickle-thing, trapped in a walking fridge.

Why, thank you.

And, yeah, by this point i'm fully committed to the idea of giving them chain-bayonets.

First though, i got to assembling (and pinning) the melee-arms.

Their poses are kind of same-ish for now, but i am glad enough that i managed to get them to stick together long enough to get these pictures. The icon of wrath comes from the defiler sprue, with a ogre's gut plate added for good measure. Once i get to the smaller details, i will add a khorne rune on the center of the gut plate, to honor the lord of skulls himself.

Not all of them come with chain-axes, though. And i don't know about some of them, especially the double headed axe on the left, it just feels... bland. On the other hand i really like the Lord of Contagion's axe head on the Preator Tribune. He'll be the champion of the squad.

And i almost forgot about this guy right here:

It's been some time since my last update, so i guess it's about time!

The Terminator Champion is obviously a conversion of the Legion Praetor Tribune. I just love his determined pose and once i got hold of him, i knew he had to become the leader of my new elite unit.

The pinning, posing and converting of the Terminator unit is almost finished. I feel that their poses are somewhat limited, but given the bulky nature of tactical dreadnought armor, that's perfectly okay. Still not to sure about the berzerker-bunny-ears on them, but it's too late to turn back now. Time for the finishing touches and then it's off to priming!
