To put it bluntly you simply not like it.

That might be the short version of it, but it's also obvious that I'm very far from being alone in that assessment, as evidenced by the KD:M and Rising Sun comparison points. For such a high profile company, this is an out-and-out failure.

And the idea that Weta wasn't hoping to cash in for multiple $$ Millions is laughable.

Given that this was ultimately a side project compared to the rest of the company and they weren't asking for anywhere near that much I doubt they care too much

Not really a fan of the robots design but the game maybe fun, will wait for the release version.

I am not sure where you base that? Weta is not a known boardgame manufacturer and for what we know this might be just a fun project they just wanted to do.

It might be anything else but we know virtually nothing about their hopes or intentions and if they consider it a failure or not.

Boardgaming is outside Weta's known core business, but the obviously saw that boardgame KS can consistently pull $1M+ from a well-run campaign from a well-run company *cough*CMoN*cough*. That's when they started the project. They were obviously hoping for a Zombicide 3 / Black Plague type result. Not a Sedition Wars.

Or maybe they wanted just to make a boardgame? Do you have proof of these accusations?

You don't need proof when you have instinct.

To imagine otherwise ("just make a boardgame") suggests an even higher level of strategic incompetence on the part of Weta.

So, you are imagining things without any real basis.

What was the target goal? $100,000. Did they beat that? Then I'm sure Weta is happy. People talking about how good or bad the funding total was need to shut up, talk about whether you pledged or the models or I don't know.... the actual game.

I get the impression that Weta's side projects are likely to be there primarily as a fun sideline rather than because they anticipate enormous profits and/or opening up a new mini-studio just for (in this case) boardgame design and manufacture.

Source: "instinct", plus a couple of decades in the tabletop game industry, plus chatting to ex-Weta colleagues about the Weta culture, plus considerable understanding of the difference in profit between even a successful tabletop game kickstarter and working on even an unsuccessful film...
